Dear Potential Sponsor:
We are excited to share the news that Florida teachers will be attending a conference to learn more about improving the outcomes of young adults with disabilities - Visions XXIV—A Special Education Transition Planning Institute/Conference will be held at the Sirata Conference Center in St. Petersburg, Florida, May 3th-5th, 2017.
The team promoting the conference is the Florida Division on Career Development and Transition (DCDT), which is a 501(c) (3) non-profit organization of educators and other professionals working with students with special needs. Our mission is to help young adults with diverse abilities to successfully enter the workforce. Our goal is to assist students with disabilities who are transitioning from high school to post-secondary educational programs, training programs, and employment.
In the state of Florida approximately 10% of individuals between the ages of 21-64 have a disability and of those individuals only 30% are employed (disabilitystatistics.org). Florida DCDT and Florida Teachers are working hard to change that. We believe that everyone who is willing and able to work should have the chance to find a meaningful job.
Florida DCDT provides grants to classroom and school-based businesses, which reinforce the soft skills necessary for a job and to teachers who need student bus fare, interview clothing, work clothing and shoes. Florida DCDT provides scholarships to students for college or post-secondary technical programs. We will also recognize participants who have gone above and beyond to make long-term employment connections with the businesses, industry leaders, and community agencies within their counties.
During this conference we will be conducting our annual Silent Auction. Please consider supporting our event by donating gift certificates, merchandise or in-kind gifts. Along with your donation, please feel free to include brochures or advertising information to share and promote your business. We are expecting to draw 400 participants to this – our 24th annual conference for the Florida Division on Career Development and Transition.
Thank you for your generous assistance with this project and for supporting exceptional students. If you have any questions or need more information on our 501(c) (3) status, please do not hesitate to contact me.
Sincerely,
Debbie Evangelista
