100 Black Men of Atlanta Join Allstate to Give Back to Atlanta on

Martin Luther King, Jr. Day
100 Black Men of Atlanta, Allstate and Other Local Non-Profits Calling on Volunteers to Give Back to the Atlanta Community
ATLANTA, GA ., January 9, 2009 – Allstate Insurance Company announced it is designating Martin Luther King, Jr. Day 2009 as Allstate Beyond February Give Back Day, to be observed in Atlanta and cities across the country on January 19, 2009. Allstate, The King Center and Other Non-Profits, including 100 Black Men of Atlanta, Inc., are mobilizing volunteers in Atlanta to serve on January 19, 2009 in honor of MLK Day.

“Beyond February Give Back Day reinforces the importance of giving back to your community in the spirit of my father and everything he fought for,” said Bernice King, Dr. King’s youngest daughter. “But an even greater tribute to my father’s legacy is evidenced by the people who demonstrate the passion and the commitment to serve their communities throughout the year, not just on MLK Day or during Black History Month.”

Volunteers will spread out across Atlanta to donate their time and efforts to a variety of charities and non-profit organizations, including 100 Black Men of Atlanta, Inc., National Coalition of 100 Black Women Metropolitan Atlanta Chapter, Ryan Cameron Foundation, the Atlanta ToolBank, and several public schools in honor of Dr. King. 100 Black Men of Atlanta has identified three specific schools where your volunteer efforts are greatly needed on this day:

  • B.E.S.T. Academy - outdoor beautification

  • M.L.K. Middle School - outdoor beautification and the building of picnic tables and benches for the courtyard

  • John Hope Elementary - outdoor beautification; creating a flower garden in honor of 100 BMOA, painting murals, and waterproofing picnic tables

“We encourage the citizens of Atlanta to join this city-wide volunteer effort,” said John Grant. CEO, 100 Black Men of Atlanta, Inc. “Give Back Day is a wonderful way to pay tribute to the memory of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. whose life was dedicated to serving the community. “
