Dennis Carroll - MCX Armorers course

This is a hands-on program that teaches and guides each participant through all armorer operations, step by step with the instructor. Active participation in disassembly and assembly procedures coupled with question and answer periods provide the type of learning environment favorable for the retention of the material. Written and practical exams are administered to test the working knowledge of each participant. The curriculum enables armorers to develop a maintenance program on the inspection and servicing of the SIG SAUER MCX platform for their agency. Following successful program completion, certification/re-certification to perform these procedures is valid for a period of three (3) years.

Let's address the issue of depression and suicide in our "First Responders" before they reach the crisis stage. This program will teach you all the things that we do to ourselves that actually prevent us from living the best life we can.

After retiring from full time Law Enforcement, Traci moved into education. Also embarking on research and practice of tools and methods to help officers cope with the same stress and depression she experienced while working. Beau Cisco - Body Language and Deception in High Risk Environments

The course includes lecture and practical exercises in general body language, anticipating violent encounters and deception detection.

Beau Cisco is the founder and lead instructor of CSS. he has been active in Law Enforcement since 1999 and has a Master of Science in Forensic Psychology. Beau has worked primarily in the South Florida area and has been involved in Narcotics Investigations, DEA Federal Task Force, Undercover Operations, and is currently a patrol supervisor. Stephen Cliffe - Contextual Cueing and Pre-Assault Indicator Recognition

Participants will examine and identify enhanced pattern recognition of physical asocial indicators to enhance objective decision making in anti-social/asocial high-stress settings. Metrics of movement, physical and behavioral indicators of asocial violence and objective measure of totality of circumstance to facilitate enhanced OODA functionality are all identified, demonstrated and discussed. Objective descriptors for post-event reporting and how the adoption of objective predictors make for better high-stress decision making.

John Combs - Developing Valid and Defensible Physical Fitness Standards

To present to law enforcement and other criminal justice personnel, methods for developing legally defensible mandatory physical fitness standards for both applicants and incumbent employees. This course will cover the Uniform Guidelines for Employee Selection Tests, recommended standards, case law guidelines, and the phases of the fitness validation process using data and testing results from the legally defensible NC Police Officer Physical Abilities Test. Validity and reliability testing results and recommended standards will be shown and discussed.

John Combs is a retired Physical Fitness Program Director from the NC Justice Academy, and is currently a sworn reserve officer, consultant, and law enforcement trainer. He has over 30 years of law enforcement experience, and a Master of Arts in Health Education & Promotion from East Carolina University. Chuck Cornelius - Enhancing Eyewitness Evidence

Implementation of recommended protocols, or Best Practices to improve the accuracy and reliability of eyewitness evidence. The class will assist in improving the police function in the identification process, including field identification procedures, properly instructing the witness prior to identification of suspects; use of sequential lineups for presentations, the use of blind procedures for presenting photo or live lineups; use of composite drawings or computer images and recording and preserving identification results while reducing the likelihood of incorrectly identifying the innocent.

Bobby Cummings - Indoor versus Outdoor Ranges. What can my agency afford?

Modern firearms training facilities must be able to integrate the skills used on a daily basis by law enforcement officers that include weapons manipulation and the ability to de-escalate, or escalate if necessary, the encounter. This course will explore the different types of indoor and outdoor firearms training venues, their feasibility in specific areas and their affordability. James Daniels - Unmanned Aircraft Systems(UAS)/Drones As A Training Tool For Instructors

This course will give instructors a new prospective of training using an Unmanned Aircraft System (UAS). Attendees will receive current information on Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Regulations for using a UAS and requirements of the Remote Pilot. While failure can the best teacher it doesn't happen by accident. In this course participants will learn how to redefine failure as a powerful tool for learning rather than the traditional view of failure as the opposite of success. Michele Devlin - Cultural Asset Teams: A Tactical Anthropology Training Approach

This course provides an overview of rapidly diversifying communities in the United States, and provides a tactical anthropology approach to developing and training "cultural asset teams" in public safety organizations to assist during emergencies, disasters, search operations, and other crisis situations.

Drs. Michele Devlin and Mark Grey are professors at the University of Northern Iowa and serve as a cultural asset team with the Iowa Department of Public Safety. James Dexter - MRDS (Red Dot Sights) for Patrol Officers

This course will allow officers to understand the benefits of red dot sights on patrol pistols and be able to identify considerations in selection, mounting and training officers on red dot pistol sights.

Eric Dickinson - Adapting Below 100 For LE Families

Below 100 is an effort to instill a culture of safety and eliminate preventable line-of-duty-deaths (LODD). “Below 100 for Law Enforcement Families” shows how the lifesaving lessons of Below 100 can be easily adapted to specialty areas. Officers and family members are encouraged to attend together to learn ways to apply the tenets of Below 100 and positively affect their relationships; mental, physical, financial, and spiritual health; safety on and off duty; and preparations for line of duty death.

Scott Donaldson - Law Enforcement Leadership Development

Bert DuVernay - A Nearly Fatal Range Shooting: Lessons Learned

This session is to present lessons learned during an incident in which an instructor was shot on the range. In April 2016, a Massachusetts Municipal Police Training Committee firearms instructor received a nearly fatal gunshot wound during a recruit class. He received immediate life saving treatment on scene by fellow instructors that are graduates of Massachusetts’ new Law Enforcement Advance Casualty Care course and was transported by helicopter to a trauma center. Presented will be lessons learned concerning range safety, gunshot wound treatment, and emergency procedures.

Bert DuVernay is the retired Chief of Police for New Braintree, Massachusetts and the current President of the Massachusetts Law Enforcement Firearms Instructors' and Armorers' Association. His background includes 43 years of police service, both fulltime and part time, as well as 6 years of college teaching and security consultation. He is the past Director of Smith & Wesson Academy, where he was a staff member from 1990 to 2001.

Thomas Dworak - Adaptive Decision-Making for the FTO

This research-based course teaches FTO’s (and through FTO’s efforts, the trainee) how to become adaptive, agile decisions makers. Attendees will work with a decision-making model that is flexible, universal and legally sound. Mordecai Dzikansky - The Phenomenon of Suicide Bombings; Policing in an Era of Terrorism

During the second Intifada, urban terrorism by means of suicide bombings was the preferred method of attack by terror groups in Israel. We are now seeing the resurgence of this method of attack by ISIS and other radical groups in Europe and Africa. Israel’s reaction to suicide bombings, the resilience of its citizens and the country’s ensuing security developments show the phenomenal capability of an urban environment succeeding against this type of terror. Heather Eckert - Closing the Reactionary Gap

When encountering a threat, the human body’s natural response will result in an automated response of neurology and physiology. Although your naturally occurring automated response (NOAR) cannot be trained away, it can be controlled and converted through training using natural occurring intuitive skills. Eric Ellis - Instructor Development for Active Shooter Training

This Instructor Development Course will review current trends in Active Shooter incidents nationwide and discussed the lessons learned from these and how they should shape our training moving forward. A review of Active Shooter Protocol will be conducted and adjustments for these policies discussed based on the trends. This includes TCCC and its integration into training along with the Rescue Task Force model. Scenario development will be discussed in detail to allow instructors to better teach and challenge their officers.

During that time he has been assigned to the sniper unit as well as the entry team. Eric is currently assigned as Team Leader for the department’s multi-jurisdictional team, and is also in charge of the teams Explosive breaching unit. Eric is also assigned to the patrol division as an afternoon shift sergeant. He holds instructor certifications in Rapid Deployment, MACTAC, Rescue Task Force, and Emergency Vehicle Operations (EVOC).

Eric Ellis - Ballistic Shield Operations for Patrol

This course is designed to give firearms and tactical instructors insight into the application of ballistic shield operations in the patrol environment. Geared to solo and two officer response to critical incidents, this course will offer a fundamental progression of live fire drills applicable to patrol officers. Included will be route finding and weapon manipulation as well as two man supported coverage. Attendees will come away with an understanding of the advantages and limitations of shield use and how they can be applied to successfully resolve high risk incidents.

Alex Embry - Tactical Live Fire Skill Builder

This instructor level course will help trainers structure live fire drills that will hone shooting skills designed to increase officer’s capabilities in regard to tactical situations such as counter-ambush, building clearing, and two officer response to critical incidents. These drills will make it possible to coach shooters to a higher, more dynamic level of performance in these situations. Participants will then look at applying those skills in live fire simulations that can be conducted with minimal equipment and outlay of funds.

Sergeant Alex Embry has served at the McHenry County Sheriff’s Office for 13 years and is currently assigned to the Training Division. He is the Range Master for the Firearms Training Unit as well as the lead instructor of the Control Tactics Cadre. He is assigned as the Team Commander of the Sheriff’s Office multi-jurisdictional SWAT Team and has deployed previously as an entry team member, sniper/observer, ATL and Team Leader.
