Daryell Harmon - ASP Tactical Flashlight Instructor
This course is revolutionary in how it trains officers in the utilization of the flashlight. Many other courses place the flashlight with the firearm. This course is designed for the officer not utilizing a firearm. ASP teaches the officer to use illumination as a defense tool - not an impact weapon. This is an opportunity to use behavioral science to contrast less-intrusive techniques to identify truth or deception. You will learn how research-based behavioral indicators can guide investigative focus once a subject has been engaged in casual conversation and/or in a semi-/formal interview processes. Instructors can contrast this methodology with conventional interview training. Steven Holmes - Training Simulators and Situational Awareness
Fifty-Thousand officers were assaulted or killed in 2015. Could these incidents have been prevented if the officers had more training in situational awareness? Situational awareness allows for an officer to develop a plan for a course of action that will provide them the opportunity to assess, and minimize risk to themselves and the public. Using training simulators, officers can safely learn to recognize warning signs before they are put to task in a real-world situation. This course will provide members with training objectives for including situational awareness into simulation training.

Patrick Horine - Developing and Validating Training

The course provides attendees with a review of current trends in media and public interest in arrest events. A presentation of the process of decision-making takes attendees through the dynamics of situations that involve psychological hesitancy or resistance and can escalate to resistance or arrest. Glen Hoyer a career law enforcement officer, retired as a Captain after 25 years of service, from the Lexington County Sheriff’s Department (SC). He worked uniformed patrol, investigations, S.W.A.T., and as a canine handler. He has been a firearm instructor since 1986 in many disciplines and began working part-time for the NRA Law Enforcement Division in 1996. After retiring he was hired as the Law Enforcement Training Manager at the NRA and was later promoted to the Division Director.
Charles Huth - 7 Traits of Effective Leaders
This course is a mixture of lecture and open discussion designed to promote understanding and regard for the perspectives of direct reports. It is designed to prepare the law enforcement leader to manage personnel in socially challenging and diverse situations. This session will help illustrate how a frame of mind that is regarding of others impacts interpersonal communication, relational trust, and accountability in a complex environment. Chuck Joyner - How Not to Get Shot, Sued, or Imprisoned; A look at Use of Force and Liability
This course will identify why some officers are reluctant to use lawful, reasonable force, and why other officers may use excessive force. A method to quickly and easily identify the appropriate and lawful force needed will be presented. Case studies will be conducted to identify what has led officers to get injured, killed, sued, or imprisoned based on their use of force decision-making and application. Carlos Kerley - Psychological Aspects of Shooting
Any firearm instructor who has been around is familiar with the pie chart used to diagnose solutions to various bullet impacts.
