A total of 196 full-time professional positions were filled by a search waiver; 80 of these were obtained for female candidates (40.8%), and 87 (44.4%) were obtained for minority candidates. A total of 79 part-time professional positions were filled by a waiver of search; 33 women (41.8%) and 34 minorities (43.0%) were hired into these positions.

Information on faculty hiring activity is presented in Table 12, Number and Characteristics of Faculty Hires by School or College, 2009-2010. From 4/1/09 - 3/31/10, a total of 56 full-time faculty were hired through the search process; an additional 5 part-time positions were searched. In 27 of the 56 full-time searches (48.2%), a woman was appointed; 14 minority group members (25.0%) were hired into full-time faculty positions through the search process. Two of the 5 part-time faculty members hired via the search process were women (40.0%). One minority group member was hired for a part-time faculty position filled through the search process during this time period.



A total of 45 full-time and 227 part-time faculty appointments were made using a waiver of search, 4/1/09 - 3/31/10. Women were appointed to 19 of the 45 full-time positions (42.2%) and 111 of the 227 part-time positions (48.9%) filled through the waiver process. Minorities were appointed to 13 of the 45 full-time positions (28.9%), and 24 of the 227 part-time positions (10.6%) that were filled by waiver of search.

Historical information on tenure system faculty hiring is presented in Table 13, Composition of Tenure System Faculty Hires, Academic Year 2000-01 to 2009-10 (p. 46). For each of the last ten years, the following information is provided: the total number of hires, the number (and percentage) of women hired, and the number and percentage of racial/ethnic minority group members hired. Over the last decade, out of a total of 539 tenure system faculty hires, 235 (43.6%) female candidates were hired, and 161 (29.9%) racial/ethnic minority group members were hired.
