Joel Corry, NFP: $15,626,100 [2012 cap figure] Dumervil’s cap number is the result of the six-year, $61,361,335 contract he signed in 2010 that had a team-friendly structure. Although Dumervil’s deal contained $43.168 million in guarantees, his first year compensation equaled his $3.168 million restricted free agency tender.

John Henderson, Denver Post: Elam is making $ 178,000, the NFL minimum for a third-year player. He received a generous $ 260,000 signing bonus as a third-round pick, but he still counts only $ 243,000 against the salary cap.
Len Pasquarelli, ESPN: Here's the breakdown on the five-year, $9 million contract extension signed by Denver Broncos kicker Jason Elam this week, in a surprise move that keeps him off the free agent market: The signing bonus is $2.675 million and the base salaries are $755,000 (for 2003), $760,000 (2004), $765,000 (2005), $1.3 million (2006) and $2.245 million (2007). Essentially it is a three-year deal worth $4.955 million. The Broncos then have the right to exercise an option on the final two seasons by paying Elam a $500,000 bonus in the spring of 2006.

Thomas Rogers, NY Times: the value of the contract is $5 million, broken down to a signing bonus of $1 million and five annual base salaries of $600,000, $700,000, $800,000, $900,000 and $1 million. Although some of the money has been deferred, it is all guaranteed, the source said.
Washington Post: Elway will become the highest-paid player in the NFL when he signs a six-year, $12.7 million contract next week, sources close to the negotiations said. The deal includes a $3 million bonus and $9.7 million in salary, according to figures obtained by The Denver Post.
Gordon Forbes, USA Today: Elway, a Demoff client who got a $5 million deal in 1983, negotiated a six-year, $12.7 million deal starting in 1988, including a $3 million bonus this year.
Washington Post: Elway, in the middle of a six-year, $12.7 million pact, will earn $1.45 million next year [1990].
Gordon Forbes, USA Today: Elway in 1993 will make $2.4 million;
Larry Weisman, USA Today: Elway's new four-year, $19.1 million contract with the Denver Broncos includes a huge signing bonus, carries numerous deferments and makes him the NFL's top-paid player. Included: a $6 million signing bonus and salaries of $4.1 million in 1993 and $3 million for '94-96. The signing bonus pays $600,000 now, $650,000 in 1995, $4.25 million in '96 and $500,000 in '97. The $4.1 million for '93 pays $3 million this year and defers $1.1 million to '94. The $3 million '94 salary pays $2.75 million in '95 and defers $250,000 to '96. The $3 million contracted for '95 is to be paid in '97. The $3 million salary for '96 pays $1 million in '97 and $2 million in '98.
Jim Armstrong, Denver Post: the five-year, $29.5 million deal he agreed to… idn't affect what he'll make this season. The deal calls for a $6 million signing bonus and annual salaries of $3 million, $4 million, $5 million, $5.5 million and $6 million. Thus, Elway's cap number for this season will be $4.2 million - $3 million in salary and $1.2 million in prorated bonus money.
As has been their custom with Elway, the Broncos renegotiated the final year of his previous contract. Elway's previous deal, four years for $19.1 million, called for a cap figure of $4,230,300 for 1996.
John McClain, Houston Chronicle: Before they could sign defensive end Neil Smith, the Broncos restructured quarterback John Elway's contract. His cap figure dropped from $5.3 million to $2.2 million. They gave him a signing bonus of $2.26 million and extended his contract by one year through 2001. His base salary will be a little less than $565,000.
USA Today: Elway was to make $4.2 million in salary during 1997. For NFL accounting purposes, the Broncos also had to count $1.1 million from the quarterback's previous signing bonus against the 1997 salary cap. Elway's total charge against the 1997 cap: $5.3 million. Under the restructuring: Elway will now receive $565,000 in salary during 1997, a $2.26 million signing bonus that will be pro-rated over five years (at $452,000 annually) for cap purposes and a $1.45 million roster bonus in March 1998. The Broncos must still count $1.1 million from Elway's previous signing bonus against the 1997 salary cap. Elway's new charge against the 1997 cap: $2.1 million.
Adam Schefter, Denver Post: Elway restructured his contract over the weekend to save his team $3.1 million against the cap. According to the NFL Managment Council, Elway received a $2.26 million signing bonus to extend his contract one year until 2001 and to lower his salary-cap figure for the coming season from $5.3 million to $2.2 million. As part of the renegotiation, Elway also is scheduled to receive a $1.5 million bonus if he's on next season's roster.
His new base salary this season will be just under $600,000, meaning he is scheduled to earn less than Broncos wide receiver Ed McCaffrey ($577,000 base salary). His base salary was supposed to be $4.18 million. According to the Managment Council, Elway's cap number for 1998 was supposed to be $5.9 million; it now is scheduled to be $7.8 million. His cap number for 1999 was supposed to be $7.2 million; it now will be $7.6 million. His cap number for 2000 was supposed to be $7.5 million; it now is scheduled to be $7.8 million; and in 2001, Elway's cap number will be $7.4 million.
AP: Elway agreed to defer a March 1 roster bonus of $1.45-million for one year, a decision that helped the Broncos sign left guard Mark Schlereth and defensive end Neil Smith to new contracts. Elway would have to be a member of the Broncos on March 1, 1999, to collect a roster bonus of $1.6-million. He was given an extra $155,000 for agreeing to postpone the payment for one year.
Adam Schefter, Denver Post: For the second time this year, Broncos quarterback John Elway has restructured his contract, lowering his base salary from $4.05 million to $300,000… Shanahan said Elway has restructured his contract so many times, it is impossible to count. But the most recent restructuring - marking the first time the quarterback has restructured his deal twice in the same year - extended Elway's contract from the 2001 season to the '03 season. When he retires after this season, the $3.75 million bonus the Broncos agreed to give him last month will be accelerated into the 1999 and 2000 seasons, and will count $750,000 against the Broncos' cap next year and $3 million in 2000.

He is scheduled to make $200,000 in base salary this season, $700,000 in 1998 and $2 million in '99. Gordon also could earn an additional $500,000 in incentives if he were to play in up to 90 percent of Denver's defensive plays this season.
Lynn DeBruin, Rocky Mountain News: the team will move today to negotiate off the final year of Gordon's contract so he can become a free agent. Denver thus will have to count only $233,334 - the accelerated pro-rated portion of his signing bonus - toward the 1999 salary cap. Gordon was scheduled to earn a base salary of $2.05 million this year and receive a March 1 roster bonus of $900,000 - which would have put his cap number at $3.183 million.
