RE-STATEMENT OF RESEARCH QUESTION
As a measure of guidance in the conducting of this research, this study attempted to find answers to these questions as identified in chapter one:
What extent do children read newspapers?
What importance is reading newspapers to children?
What are children’s perceptions about specialized children newspapers?
3.2 RESEARCH DESIGN
This study adopted a descriptive Survey method. This kind of research was designed by Seltiz et al (1976), which emphasize a researcher’s quest to find out the characteristics and variables of any phenomenon in review. In the case of this research, such variables include children’s media access, their attitude to newspapers, and their perception about a specialized newspaper designed for them.
Qualitative and quantitative approaches were also used to gather, access, and analyze the data collected on the field for this research. According to Sobowale (2008: 62), “It is becoming increasingly popular to combine qualitative methods of inquiry with quantitative ones to obtain more reliable parameters of phenomena in the environment”.
The choice of survey technique for the study is to be able to gather data capable of leading to generalizations (Tejumaiye, 2003). This research was also put together and completed within 3months, while the field study was carried out just above 3 weeks, including its data analysis and interpretation.
