4.0 INTRODUCTION

  1. INTRODUCTION

This chapter elaborates the data gathered and the method of analysis the researchers employed to objectively draw out beneficial results and findings from the data. Charts were employed for the presentation of findings, and Percentages (%) were used to show differences among variables measured. Each item (question) in the questionnaire is analyzed and discussed based on the number of valid answers.
4.1 DEMOGRAPHICS OF RESPONDENTS

The respondents comprised 150 male and 150 female junior secondary school children. This included 197 (66%) children aged between 9 and 12years; and 103 children (34%) aged between 13 and 15years.


In breakdown, all 300 questionnaires were completed by 9 – 15 year olds attending diverse public and private junior secondary schools across the Lagos Metropolis. Field work was conducted between 18th February and 14th March, 2015. Twelve schools were involved in the survey. Two public and two private schools in Kosofe and Surulere Local Governments, while one public and one private school each was picked from the Ikeja and Badagry Local Governments.
A list of the schools picked via a simple random sampling method include, two private (Harrobs College, Ketu; Mictec International School, Ojota), and two public (Ojota Secondary School, Ojota; Ogudu Grammar School, Ogudu), in Kosofe Local government; two private (Princeton College, Olatunde Onimole – Aguda, Fountain Height Secondary School, Adelabu – Aguda), and two public (Ansarudeen Secondary School, Randle – Itire, Birch Freeman High school, Atunrase) in Surulere Local government.
Also, one private (Aradox Comprehensive College, Air Field, Magbon), one public (Araromi Ilogbo Secondary, Oko-Afo) was chosen in Badagry Local government; while one private (Halifield Schools, Maryland), and one public (Immaculate Heart Junior secondary school, Maryland), was chosen in Ikeja Local government.
