PI Interface to the Baily System
System Digital State Set
Similar to digital state sets is the system digital state set. This set is used for all tags, regardless of type to indicate the state of a tag at a particular time. For example, if the interface receives bad data from an interface point, it writes the system digital state
Bad Input
to PI instead of a value. The system digital state set has many unused states that can be used by the interface and other PI clients.

PI Point Configuration
26
PointSource
The PointSource is a single, unique character that is used to identify the PI point as a point that belongs to a particular interface. For example, the letter
N
may be chosen to identify points that belong to the Infi90 Interface. To implement this identification, set the PointSource attribute to
N
for every PI Point that is configured for the Infi90 Interface. Then, when
ps=N
is used on the startup command-line of the Infi90 interface, the Interface will search the PI Point Database upon startup for every PI point that is configured with a PointSource of
N
. Before an interface loads a point, the interface performs further checks by examining additional PI point attributes to determine whether a particular point is valid for the interface. For additional information, seethe
ps
parameter.
Case-sensitivity for PointSource Attribute
The case of the PointSource character point attribute is not significant. In addition, the PointSource character that is supplied with the
-ps
command-line parameter is not case sensitive. That is,
-ps=N
and
ps=n
are equivalent.
Reserved Point Sources
Several subsystems and applications that ship with PI are associated with default
PointSource characters. The Totalizer Subsystem uses the PointSource character
