Repeat this process until 4 riffle/run habitats have been sampled. This will result in 4 individual kick samples that cover approximately 1 m2 (4 x 0.25 m2) of stream substrate. The 4 kick samples will be composited into 1 sample. If a diversity (fast and slow – stacked and flat, etc.) of riffle/run types is not present, collect the 4 samples from the best available habitat.
