Fished Saturday 5:00Am - 3:00PM. Got one of the few pomp keepers- 20" 5lb'er. Not many more caught that morning so I was feeling lucky. Stayed through the slow time and Mike and I were putting out live pilchards in the PM and every one brought in a good Mac.
Met Cookinman- Good to talk with you....
Went today from 4:00Am through 11:00Am. Slow times today current stale from the East and winds NNE gusting to 9knots. Water looked good but no pomps, a few Macs caught and a Hog Snapper under the pier. Staurday night a guy got a short Black Grouper also.
Good to see so many Boatless members out there, Rob good to see you as always.

Was there Sat. morning...nice talking with Tom, Pat, and Dave, sorry I had to run but the meter ran out and had to go on my way up North...saw plenty blues, jacks, decent size macks, and juvenile pomps come over the railing. How is it today?

by Jordan » Sat Nov 27, 2010 10:29 pm

Fished today

Connor got a 5-6lb AJ on a trolleyed gog.

Some short muttons came up, I got one that was just short at 15 inches on a gog chunk.

Ballyhoo and gogs for bait..bait was tough to get though, ballyhoo moved out and gogs were moving all over the place and not really bugging.

Some macks and bonita around too.

Sorry for the late post. Wife had to work last Friday and the kids were off school. So What to do but go fishing. Best thing of the day was catching 2 nice hogfish.

the word around the street is that there getting nice macs and bonitas at the T on freelined ballywhos!

by angrylobster » Fri Dec 03, 2010 7:27 am

I had a marathon pier session from Sat to Tues night. Ended up with 6 keeper muttons two released, two keeper grovers, 1 yellow tail, 3 macs, 4 sharks, two rays, and tons of blues. Most of the fish were caught on ballyhoo and gogs on a fish finder rig. caught a couple of the macs on a plug. Also hooked a nice tarpon that jumped a few times, and freight trained me under the pier and broke off. fun times.

Down this way, most already came down, many just swam around the piers. Keep an eye and ear for what's going on north. Down here, I'll fish a good southeast after the new year. Anything can happen. Seen good days way earlier than march before. Every year is a new adventure.

Late report. Went fishing with my favorite fishing buddy(my 4 yr old son) on Sunday. Didn't get to the pier until around 11am, a little too cold for an early start. Things started slow. NOthing but needlefish, filefish and reef fish picking at the bait. Finally spotted a piling with a bunch of fish around it. After slipping past the filefish hooked into a 18in GAG grouper. Nice fish but too small so back he went after pics. Then after that a big surprise. Up came mangrove snappers. I ended up with 3 and my son caught 4. I got the big one at 17 inches but he got the next biggest at 15 inches. The other 4 were between 12 and 13 inches. He also caught one of the biggest needle fish I have ever seen.

I've been hitting the beaches north of Palm Beach for the last few weeks, and they are just starting to show up. Are these different then the migratory fish that you guys catch off the piers down south?

by Lomax aka ZEBCO » Thu Dec 09, 2010 11:10 am

  • Pretty much. We may have a school or 2 that wander thru, but the majority of the ones we'll have already came. I'll have people argue about it like always, but when spring comes and my coolers are full, they can't argue the facts. Now you just fish when it looks good. Never know when a school is wandering around

  • How's fishing lately??? Cuz last Sunday ( 12/21 ) we're able to catch some pompano, small jack and mackerel !!!

Friday 12-24- Water color was good but current was a constant swell with little direction, chum bags were hangin and little action to be had. 2- blue fish caught at 5AM Bonita hooked and lost on piling 11AM, mac caught and landed in the 2-3lb range 9AM. black tip on the deck 12PM nothing needed to be landed with a net, lizard fish on a lure. Some bait around but hoos were scarce. Jigged in the surf to see if there were any drive by pomps but no hits, Keith had crabs in the surf and they just went out to look great on the bottom. Didn't see much else landed. In my 10 hours there not much to report. Beautiful day so that was the upside.

Anyways,.. Macks in the day, best in the eve,.. Bluefish at night, some nights very good, some slow. Mangoves here and there along with other reef creatures.

Greenies, big sardines at night,... solid Hoos in the day.

by rshields » Sat Jan 22, 2011 7:12 pm

Went out from 6Am through 1PM. Left before the temp took a plunge and the winds shifted into high gear. Current was rolling ESE with waves in the 1ft range. Bait-hoos- were everywhere, we chummed up a school that stayed all day and if you had a net you could haul 40gallons at a throw or more if you could lift it, gogs by the mid hut- you had to work but they were coming up steady. One Mac Spanish about 3lbs made it into Keith's "hurt locker"- got it on a bottom rod with a fresh hoo. Another angler, didn't get his name boxed 5 or 6 grovers from under the pier on live shrimp. Balloons in the current with livies’ swimming under, bottom rigs with hoos, crabs and pinfish North and South. Poppers looking for a jack, runner or a lost king- yo zuri's, gotchas and ghosts, crappie jigs and free lining hoos, spoons, diamonds and bucks. Guess we put our best effort but the fish weren't into it. We had em surrounded but....Slow day in the Neighborho

by rshields » Mon Feb 07, 2011 7:42 pm

Mike caught a keeper spanish mac in the surf on a crappie jig yesterday... that's about it

Damn seems like the fishing has been very slow for the most part due to these cold fronts.
Cant wait till the water warms up!

Fished yesterday from 0800-1100h. Good se wind, ballyhoo under the T they stayed there most of the time, got one b. Runner and an undersized yt. Soaked 3 rods with ballyhoo chunks hoping for some blues but no hit, not even a nibble...jigged for pomp for like 30mins still no luck... Well at least it was a good day being out there after a long period of hibernation

by ricky9 » Thu Feb 24, 2011 12:39 pm Dania

went last night and stayed for an hour and a half. Had two bottom rods one with a butterflied grunt another with a whole squid for most of the night. Worked silversides under the pier and nothing. Tried to get some bait but that didnt work out either.

by crashmister » Fri Feb 25, 2011 11:38 am

Chill guys, perfect conditions today with wind and current for what your thinking! I was there from 10am till dark, couple small macs,a few small jacks, one keeper pompano. We did locate some greenies and the gogs were there. I'm thinking to our south may be the spot. Heading to Dania to get tangled and mangled!

A late report. My favorite fishing buddy (my 5 year old) and I got to the pier around 9AM last Saturday. Very little wind and crystal clear water. Thought it did not look good but fishing with my son is better than most anything else. We always check the water past the first hut for bait. Didn't see any bait but barracudas everywhere. Then on closer inspection snook schooling all around and croakers circling near the snook. Figured you have to fish where there is fish. Well ended up with 3 croakers, 3 baracudas and a couple nice snook brought to the deck. See attached pics for one of them. I did not measure because I did not want to keep them out of the water too long. From there we went down near the T. Things were slow but we ended up catching 4 lookdowns(moonies), 2 margates and a nice parrot fish. AAlso hooked a bigger snook. Fought it for about 40 seconds and then it frayed my line and that was it. Good fight and lots of fun. So on the way out we stopped to see if we could get some more croakers. Ended up catching 6 more baracuda. My son caught 4 of them see the pics for one of his. I lost a 3 foot barracuda after about a 3 second run.
I did have a googan moment and dropped my phone in the water when I called Rob to check regs on those croakers. Other than that it was a great day to be on the pier.

Was out this am from 5:40 until 8:00. Shoulda stayed in bed

by WetWillie » Fri Mar 04, 2011 8:56 pm Dania

Not quite yet, but it has to be soon. We're all drooling about it. The fall run was only rated fair, with a lot of juvenile sized pomps caught and released. We're anticipating the spring run to be large pomps, probably on steroids! Just watch the reports! They'll be getting hotter any minute now.

Head up tomorrow Scotty.

Went last saturday from 3pm to 8 pm to the pier .Set up at first half of the pier with hopes of some pompano action .Nada . Only got one black margate on live fleas .Heard of someone catching one pomp at the T of all places . No baitfish around .

by bibijawa » Sun Mar 06, 2011 12:38 am

I was out there this afternoon from 4-6pm. I caught a few short pomps, saw a couple keepers caught. Caught a jack and a bluefish

I read that before I went to bed last night. Thanks P.R. That would have sucked to run into that so early in the morning.
Got to the pier around 6:30/7. Got my limit before 8am. Great day to fish. All the usual characters where there. There are the regulars, then there are the fisherman you see only when the silver guys are around. Not too much chaos. Its more like controlled chaos now. The bite did die down after 9. There were some straglers (big ones) that got picked at. I saw a few macks caught, as well as some big blues. I left around noon. I am curious to hear if the bite picked up after 12 and what the sunset bite does. Here are a few pics of the silver guys...

by crashmister » Sun Mar 06, 2011 11:04 pm

Fun day! I lost a second Pomp about the same size as the first. No clue if it hit the flea or the shrimp, but I was wrapped around 4 other guy's and by the time we got that cleared it was around the piling. I couldn't reach the honey hole with my 8' rod. Just not enough ompf. I mentioned to Tommy that my next purchase would be a surf rod for the pier. Next thing I know, Tommy come's walking up with a surf combo and gives it to me. "Thank's for all your help, your back in the game". Besides being completely blown away, the first fish on it was Dino pomp. Thanks again Tommy!!!

Sunday fishing report - Anglins Pier
I went to the pier about 2am and talked for a while with tommy, we shared a good expresso while people were out in the rain and wind shrimping, LOTS of nice shrimps, got 5 or 6 from tommy and ate them raw, sweet early am breakfast!
Started fishing about 4:30, wind laid down almost completely, only saw a nice snook on a live shrimp and one blue caught until sunrise.
Pompanos came out as thick as they could, got a double right away ( a nice 16" and a 14"), then proceed to lose a big one on a tangle and got another one right after together with a nice blue on my other rod who sat on the north side undisturbed (on the south side there were probably 200 rods or so).
Then another double with a pomp and a blue, but the pomp was not on my rig so gave it to the rig owner who didn't even noticed he was on....
Everyone else was catching them, some BIG fatties in the 18"-19" range too. Bite lasted until 9am or so, then it slowed down considerably.
Most of the guys left at lunch time, I stayed since had nothing better to do than fishing on a perfect conditions day and it paid back.
A couple of big squalls came in between 1 and 2 pm and after that the bite was on again.
Lots of blues past of the hut on both sides (mostly south), some scattered pomps for an hour or so and then they went thick again. I left at 6pm with my limit of nice pomps (smaller was 13") and 3 blues, black guy named Ben (met him at deerfield some times a while ago) came around 3pm and limited out on a jig in about 15 minutes, all nice fish, impressive skills.
Was cool to see all the googans and tourists having a blast catching fish, best thing was that everyone was pretty cool and even the worst tangles ended up ok with some patience. Didn't have my camera with me otherwise I would have shot a complete googan fishing movie!!!!

i miss the fun yesterday(i had to work) so i went today hoping theres still some more left for me, started jigging just after 0600h, immediately hooked up, i was saying ok first pomp of the day, but to my dismay it was a nice size j. cravelle. , then i started jigging again,my mom was with me ,she hasnt caught any pompano yet so i gave her some basic tips about jiggin then i went on with my bussiness , moments later i saw hr rod bend and after a couple of minutes of fighting she officially caught her first pompano(the little guy) after unhooking her catch, i threw my jig right where she caught hers and then..another hook up!!! manage to get this big guy over the rail, foul hooked him on the side, after that, 2 more cravelles were caught and the bite shut down, completely dead...no body caught anything for the next 3 hours so we decided to go home, good day today...now time to cook thi
