Thanks Rob, Richard, Mike, Fixed 80, James, PP and others . Alot of fun this morning. I caught the first 4 on fleas, and after running out, the next 2 on shrimp. The funny thing is the shrimp was in the water less time before bites than the fleas.
Believe it or not, I actually sat there 1 of the tangling times, and spent 20 minutes untangling this guys line from mine (he was using braid) and handed him back his full rig, minus 2 feet of the braid. The whole time I was doing this, he made himself scarce fishing his other rod 30'-40' down the pier .

I take it that the Pompano Bite is off the chart it should be.

How many pilchards were there? A big school of them or what?

No pilchards. A few ballyhoo and what people call a sand perch. Defintely no pilchards, very few pompano, sp macks or anything else. For real, not much going on at Dania pier at this time.

Fished this afternoon 11:00-15:15. There is nothing to report. Wind was calm and water was clear.
No bait, no fish, nada. Sorry guys

First report in over a year...

After not sleeping Weds night and fishing all day down in Flamingo, I headed out to Anglins at 4AM this morning. Before light, a crappy wind from the east, no bait in any lights, and a single bonefish was caught before I arrived. At first light, clear water with a north current. Hoos started to show after a few hours. Tons of small cudas moving around but not eating much. One blue runner and one tiny one. I swam the big one out for a while with absolutely no interest from anything.

Even though I didnt catch anything, I spent my time out there with some good friends and taught them everything I know about the basics of pier fishing. At the end, they all had a blast and learned a lot.

I also met PoOn and Justinfishboy out there and we had a good chat. Glad to see the board is growing and bringing in such great people.

by justmel » Sat Apr 03, 2010 9:44 pm Dania

Well there from from day time to night fall. A spanish mac is all that came over that rail the whole day. No exaggeration. Thought things was going to change with the sun going down and the tide changing, NOPE!

by StyngRay » Sun Apr 04, 2010 4:32 am Dania

I think we will need stronger NE winds to push the currents for better fishing. Otherwise it reminds me of my 2006 journal, not good till summer again. Fuzzy wuzzy was a bare...? La Nina? Keep digging up those bugs.

Report from the shallow end of the pier for this morning from 6 till 10:30 am. Decided to stop lurking and post based on Tommy's comments in the Haters topic ("So those that hesitate to post you will not help this forum...").

Ignoring the south-flowing current, a small school of good-sized pompano came through about 8:30. Several pomps, about 13-16", were brought up on pompano rigs...some with fleas, some with shrimp. One guy lost two pomps on his double crappy rig which snapped as soon as they hit. The same guy lost something bigger, earlier in the am, probably a barracuda, maybe a mackerel, when a mojarra took a shrimp on his pompano rig. His big trophy of the day was a mojarra head. The pomp run was over by 8:45.

Gogs were caught on both bugs and sabikis.

Something was flipping around in a cooler on the way back from the deep end...I heard it was a bluefish but didn't confirm.

rob762 wrote:OK, fishing stunk today....

Fished from 0630 - 11:00 - not one bite.

Water was canal green and full of canal crud....(trash, etc)

On a good note, I finally met Pat in person, and saw FF73, Bobby and James for the first time in a long while. All in all, a nice morning of conversation and fishing...

Gogs were bugging until about 9:30 or so...

Picture below tells the story for me. Worth getting up for the peaceful dawn and pretty sunrise.

My son and I got there around 8:15am, stayed until 12:00pm. Not much was biting, we had a couple of nibbles, and I caught a skate, which my son brought in. It was very windy, especially on the north side of the pier. We fished around the break, rather than the Tee, using light tackle, bottom rigs. My son tried the lures a couple of times, but it didn't come up with anything. One guy near us caught a little spanish mack, maybe 14".

Was also there 8-10:30am. Worth mentioning that I didn't see anyone catch them on jigheads, all bottom rigged with sandfleas (no shrimp that I saw). About 50% of catches included doubles.

Blues were caught on rapala on the surf, saw 4 caught in about 2 min, that died up quick.

y madangler » Sun Apr 11, 2010 1:14 pm

Caught 2 pomps on goofy's this morning, and my dad got one; we fished only artificals today. Up until 8:30 the pomps were almost solely hitting artificals, and then they zoned in more on fleas. Pretty much all fishing died off by 10 we left at 10:30. Saw one big blue caught.

by released » Sun Apr 11, 2010 2:48 pm

Same here caught 2, tossed back a small one, and pulled the hook on a really nice one. The bite was within in 30 min and that was it. Caught 2 macks as well. South current and dirty water pretty much says it all...... Nice meeting some forum members

by Chief Wahoo » Sun Apr 11, 2010 10:58 pm

Fished from 9:30 till 1:30. The mojarra, chub, and gogs were biting the whole time. Even heard of a few croakers pulled up.

by YakPirate » Tue Apr 13, 2010 9:40 pm

Caught two big pompano's today surf fishing between hollywood blvd and hallandale bch blvd. Sand fleas all over.

rebel33i wrote:Thanks for the report solo Did you see any pompano caught? Also what were using for bait?

I was using live whole shrimp on one and cut mullet on the other. The mullet wasn't touched at all. The shrimp brought in the skate, and had a couple of nibbles.

I walked about on the pier checking with other fishermen there, but nobody was catching anything. When I first got there one guy had snagged a spanish mack with a silver treble, and there was another guy who caught a couple of 3-4" green backs with a sabiki, but otherwise nothing.

I'm going to try again this weekend. Anyone know where I can get some of those fleas the pomps are biting?

Fri 4/16 AM report. Some Pompano early AM bite both sides west of the hut. Dirty water and no current. Fleas were doing better than the jigs due to water color. Couple of small Macks and one small bluefish, not sure if any gogs were around. Could not see into the water. Tight Lines.....

by bolo » Sat Apr 17, 2010 7:37 am

Still coming through, with some Spanish Mack here and there an occasional Bluefish.

I will let the ones who fished go into more detail as to their Day fishing, Great meeting a couple of more Members I now have a face for that User Name.
I have to say watching everyone get Fish is Awesome, I threw some with a Jig and Got a nice one for the Wife's dinner.

Anyways Good chance they could be here all Day, but I think this evening you could see another train of Pompanos scoot by on there journey north home, yea The evening bite could be even better.

Looks like the next two days could be Winners, Good Luck if you give it a try.
The pomps won't be here thick much longer maybe 2 weeks but hey you never know and watch for the south east winds.

by bolo » Sat Apr 17, 2010 11:36 am

TEEN--Wind is suppose to go east maybe we will get lucky and it will hold at Se to E things would be similar in the morning.

The east wind is not bad but the current can change on an east but if a north current holds the bite should be strong in the morning.

Chances are there will be a decent bite in the morning, so maybe give it another shot then.

Fin---Yes usually the morning bite is the best, but this is not always true but more often is.

I assure you people will brave the rain for Pompano, lets hope they show strong to make it worth those peoples time.

Pompano bite in the morning has slow down. Pompano still coming thru. People catching them on the south of the hut. Bruce is killing them right now. Thanks for the Pompano Bruce.

by BoatlessFisherman » Sun Apr 18, 2010 12:13 am

Nice Pomps and 28 inch Mack, I do believe that is a King hard to really tell but looks more like a King than a Spanish.

Nice catches

Hey all, I went to Anglins this morning with one of my daughters (my 12 year old) and Eli Dratler. We arrived @ +- 05:10 and got back from Anglins @ +- 11:45, wind was SSE most of the morning, with a fairly strong northerly current, water was a nice color, well stirred up.

I was hoping for the EPIC fishing that I had heard about and wasn't able to join in on from Saturday Morning, and comparatively it was slow. But without trying to compare to Saturday's huge success, it wasn't bad at all.
The first pomp I saw come up was @ 05:50, my first pomp came up @ 06:19. My daughter caught the next pomp soon after, with my 2nd coming in @ around 08:00. My daughter then caught the next pomp which was the largest pomp caught on the pier until we left (as far as I know)

It measured 16.5" to the fork, and almost 20" to the tail (those measurements were right out of the water, it appears to have shrunk by +- 1/2" by the time I got home and the fish had been on ice. Just remember all, if you catch a pomp (or any other fish) and it is exactly legal, beware, because the fish will more than likely shrink once it is dead and on ice. I'm not sure how the law would stand, but try and explain to the FWC officer that the 10.5" pomp was really 11" when you caught it). This is comparing in size to the smallest fish caught @ 11.75"
