recorded with Beiderbecke (Hooley, The Gloucester Gabriel, 1993). He was supposed to be at the September 28 session, but missed it, and denied his presence on September 30, aurally identifying Farrar. Cush is suggested based on his definite presence in New York to record with the California Ramblers. OKeh 40912, Odeon 189070 as BENNY MEROFF AND HIS ORCHESTRA.

Evidently at this point, Sophie Tucker made some records in Chicago accompanied by Muggsy Spanier, c, and Volly de Faut, cl, and members of the Benson Orchestra of Chicago. Both musicians recalled the date independently, but nothing was ever issued from it, apparently. Okeh was recording extensively in Chicago just prior to the St. Louis date above, and Muggsy Spanier and Volly de Faut recorded just a month later with the Bucktown Five, q.v.
