Relationship between Entrepreneurship Education Skills and Poverty Alleviation
The focus of this research question is to determine the relationship between entrepreneurship education skills and poverty alleviation. The findings are summed up in table 4 and 7. The result showed that there is a high positive relationship between skills students acquire after an entrepreneurship education course and poverty alleviation. The hypothesis tested showed a significant relationship between entrepreneurship education skills and poverty alleviation.
The findings are in line with Ogundele, Akingbade and Akinlabi (2012) and Adofu and Ocheja (2013) which revealed that entrepreneurship education and training is a strategic tool for poverty alleviation in Nigeria and that lack of entrepreneurship skills among youth is responsible for the high rate of poverty in the society. It can be deduced that exposure of undergraduate students to entrepreneurship skills will stimulate entrepreneurial drive in students which is a significant factor in job creation for poverty alleviation. Chike-Obi (2012) maintained that when an individual is equipped with the necessary entrepreneurship skills, he maintains a sustainable life style which alleviates poverty through job creation. This will ease the general frustration associated with unemployment and poverty.
Conclusion
The following conclusions were drawn from the findings of the study. Undergraduate students acquire entrepreneurship skills after completing courses in entrepreneurship education. It was found that there exist a high positive relationship between skills students acquire after an entrepreneurship education course and their career intention. A moderate positive relationship was found between entrepreneurship education skills and self productivity. Similarly, there was a high positive relationship between entrepreneurship education skills and poverty alleviation. Finally, it was found that the skills undergraduate students acquire after completing courses in entrepreneurship education significantly influences their entrepreneurial career intention, self-productivity and poverty alleviation.
