National eves' boxing champs from Feb 24:

Guwahati: The fourth senior Women's National Boxing championship will begin at Kokrajhar from February 24. With active collaboration of BTC, the Assam Amature Boxing association (AABA) will organise the five day championship.



Tripura drub Arunachal:

Guwahati: Tripura earned full points against Arunachal Pradesh in the on going Junior National (NE Zone) Football Championship played at Gossaigaon on Jan 31. Tripura won the match 2-1. The winning side scored both the goals in the first half. On 1st February's match: Assam vs Meghalaya.



NF Rly into next round:

Guwahati: In a one sided match NF Rly defeated Rangiya by 120 runs and romped into the next round of the U-15 Amarjit Sharma Inter-district Cricket championship played at the Nehru Stadium here on Jan 31. Batting first, NF Rly scored 181. Debrata Sen (61) scored half century for his team and Amjad Ali contributed 41 runs for the team . later, a five wickets haul of Utpal helped NF Rly to bowled out Rangiya in 61 runs.



Walkover jinx in 'B' Division soccer on:

Guwahati: Sporting Union Club cruised along to collect full points in the Debabrata Banerjee "B" Division Football League defeating West Guwahati 2-0 at the SAI Field on Feb 15. The hero of the match was Nilam Das who scored both the goals in the 13th and 44th minutes respectively. However, the walk-over jinx in the league continued on Feb 15as Nilachal Club didn't turn-up to play their scheduled match against New Star. Meanwhile, the vice-president of GSA, Chitta Bhowmick, on Feb 15 informed that the yearly renewal of affiliation of the different clubs, offices and institutions will be done up to March 5 without any fine and those who fail to do so within any fine and those who fail to do so within the given date can register themselves till March 15 by paying a fine of Rs 200.



Star win U-13 cricket tourney:

Guwahati: Hosts Star Cricket Coaching academy have won the 9th Ashrafur Rahim (Raju) Memorial U-13 Inter-coaching Centre Cricket tournament beating Ankurjyoti Cricket Coaching Academy by 7 runs in the final at the Latasil Playground. SCCA opted to bat first after winning the toss scored 159 in their allotted 25 overs. Rahul Kalita 39 and Rikul Deka with 31 were the main scorers. For Ankurjyoti, Ankit bagged three wickets. In reply, Ankurkyoti looked at one stage to overtake SCCA target when they were 120 for 5 at the end of 20 overs requiring 39 runs in the last five overs but were able to score 32 runs only.



Rural meet begins:

Guwahati: The two-day rural sports meet started at Farkating in Golaghat district from Feb 15. Altogether 115 participants from seven districts are taking part in the meet which was inaugurated by the Sports minister Rabin Bordoloi. He also inaugurated the newly-built Rajiv Gandhi Rural Sports Complex, where the meet is being held and laid the foundation stone of a proposed-indoor stadium costing Rs 66.75 lakh to be funded by the Central sports and Youth Welfare Department.



Moto Cross Championship - Assam, Meghalaya riders dominate:

Guwahati: Assam and Meghalaya riders dominated the Second North East Moto Cross Championship held here at the Assam Textbook Publication Ground on Feb 15. Altogether 35 riders from various part of the North-east took part in the Championship which was held in three different categories. Hiten Das of Guwahati was adjudged as the best rider of the meet while Anand Sarang of Guwahati took the Best new-comer award.



OIL-AITA Super Series tennis from Feb 16:

Guwahati: The OIL-AITA Super series Tennis championship for U-14 boys and girls will begin at the North East Tennis Foundation Courts from February 16. Around 60 participants from different part of the country will take part in the championship. The joint secretary of the All Assam Tennis association (AATA) Ankuh Dutta said that the qualifying round will be held on February 16 and 17, while the main round matches will commence from February 18.



Keshab Ram Bora Cricket from Feb 16:

Guwahati: The opening match of the second Keshab Ram Bora Memorial Invitational Prize Money Cricket Tournament will be played between Guwahati Cricket Coaching Centre (A) and Assam Police Sports and Youth Welfare Minister will grace the occasion as the chief guest.



Taekwon-do general assembly concludes:

Guwahati: The general assembly meeting of All Assam Taekwondo-Do Association was held on February 7 under the presidentship of Y Khemchand, the founder president and technical director of the Association, at the Assam Olympic Association office in the city. The meeting after a threadbare discussion on different issues of agenda, have unanimously adopted several resolutions for development of taekwon-do in the State and to search talent from different parts of the State.



Ankurjyoti, Star boys in final:

Guwahati: Ankurjyoti Cricket Coaching Academy and Star Cricket Coaching Academy on contrasting semifinals to move into the final of the Ashrafur Rahim (Raju) Memorial U-13 Inter-coaching Centre Cricket Tournament being played here at the Latasil Playgroung.



Boxing preparation camp in progress:

Guwahati: the preparation of the probables for the forthcoming Women's National Boxing Championship are currently undergoing t the Guwahati SAI Complex. Altogether 23 boxers, excluding Jennifer Deniel and Kalpana Choudhury, have attended the camp under the supervision of Amar Deka and Geeta Sonowal. Kalpana and Jennifer are in Kathmandu representing the India B team in an international boxing championship. This year Assam will host of the Senior Women's National Boxing Championship and it will be held at Kokrajhar from February 24.



Assam fail to complete main round berth:

Guwahati: Assam failed to complete the main round berth in the U-19 Junior National Football championship as they lost to Manipur by a solitary goal in the North East Zone leg held at the Gossaigaon college ground on Feb 9.



Ankurjyoti smell title win:

Guwahati: Ankurjyoti Club is on the verge of winning the Madhab Ram Bora GSA 'A' division Inter-Club Cricket Championship after registered their second successive win in the super series match. In 9 February's match played at the Nehru Stadium the team downed Nabajyoti Club by four wickets. Electing to bat first, Nabajyoti bowled out for 153 runs. On 10th February's match: Nabajyoti vs Gauhati Town Club.



Women National Soccer

Pegu to lead team:

Guwahati: Anjana Pegu will lead Assam in the 12th Senior Women Football Championship to be held at Bhopal from February 10. Assam Football Association on Feb 7 announced the 22 members squad.



AFA names probables for U-21 tourney:

Guwahati: Assam Football Association on Feb 7 selected 34 probables for the U-21 National Football (NE Zone) Championship to be held at Nagaland from the first week of March. The selected players to attend the coaching-cum-selection camp which will begin at Diphu from February 23.



Inter-Club B'Ball from Feb 12:

Guwahati: The Inter-club Basketball League of Guwahati Sports Association (GSA) will begin on February 12. The tournament would be held at the Hengrabari basketball court. The last date for participating in the championship is February 10, basketball secretary of the GSA, Rabinder Singh Oberoi informed.



GTC win a cliff-hanger:

Guwahati: Guwahati Town Club (GTC) on Feb 7 registered an exciting 3 run win over New star club in the super series match of the Madhab Ram Bora Memorial GSA "A" Division Inter Club Championship being played at the Nehru stadium. After giving a walkover in the first match of the Super Series, GTC on Feb 7 turned up in full strength and looked like a team on a mission. Batting first after winning the toss, GTC scored an impressive 189 in the stipulated 30 overs due to a fine half century from Subhrajit Saikia (56) and 49 runs from Debojit's willow. New Star club replied solidly and were in contention throughout but some very restrictive bowling in the death overs, especially by Subrajit Saikia who picked up four wickets for 36 runs. For New Star Club, Sukumar Barman (43), Arif (33), and Zaheer (30) did the bulk of the scoring but failed to see their team through.



Day & night cricket champs:

Guwahati: The 11th Day & Night Cricket Tournament organise by NEEDS begins from Feb 1 at the Latasil playground. Several top teams from entire North-eastern region will participate in the tournament. In this purpose NEEDS has formed a strong organising committee.



Inter SAI meet

20-member team to represent Guwahati SAI centre:

Guwahati: the Sports Authority of India, regional centre, Bhopal (MP) is organising a four days long the "SAI Inter Regional Weightlifting Competition, 2004 at SAI, Training Centre, Lucknow (UP) from February 9 to 12. The competition will be in three main categories i.e. (A) U-16 Sub Junior Boys & Girls, (B) U-19 Junior Boys & Girls, (C) Senior Men and Women. The sports Authority of India, Regional Sub Centre, Guwahati is also sending a 20 members SAI team including five boys and 15 girls to participating in the competition. Among the selected players one girls and three boys are from SAI, SAG Naharlagun, Arunachal Pradesh.



AR in semis in Police Games soccer:

Guwahati: Assam Rifles have continued their impressive run in the B N Mullick All India Football Championships being played at Lucknow. The tournament which started on January 28 has 33 teams of all State police and Central para military force taking part. In the league match, Assam rifles team defeated Delhi Police 1-0, then went on to beat Goa Police 3-1 and the Andaman & Nicobar Island Police 6-0. It made it to the last eight stage after a goalless draw with Mizoram Police. In the quarter-final, played on Feb 3, Assam rifles got the better of Uttar Pradesh Police by a solitary goal. On Feb 4, Assam Rifles will take on Punjab Police for a place in the final. The final will be played on Feb 5.



Ankurjyoti Academy in final:

Guwahati: Ankurjyoti cricket coaching Academy stormed into the final of the Debabrata Banerjee and Vijay Tiwari Prize Money Cricket tournament trouncing Guwahati Cricket Coaching Centre by 8 wickets in the first semifinal played here at the Latasil Playground.



Inter-bank cricket from Feb 18:

Guwahati: The 17th Girish Goswami Memorial Inter-bank Cricket Tournament organised by the UCO Bank Staff Club, Guwahati will be held from February 18 at the Latasil Playground. Teams intending to take part in the tournament have been asked to contact secretary of the UCO Bank Staff Club before Feb 7.



Assam rural athletics from Feb 15:

Guwahati: The All Assam Rural Athletic tournament for both boys and girls will be held at Farkating, Golaghat from February 15 to 16. Only participants below the age of 16 years and belonging to rural areas will be eligible to take part in the tournament.



Meghalaya in last 4:

Guwahati: Meghalaya entered into the semifinal of the Junior National (NE Zone) football championship defeating Tripura by a solitary goal at Gossaigaon on Feb 3. Staland Mar scored the only goal of the match in the 23rd minute of the second half. With this win, Meghalaya earned the last four berth remaining at the top of the Group "A" collecting 9 points from three matches. Meanwhile, host Assam will play its last league encounter on Feb 4 against Arunachal Pradesh. A win can confirm the semifinal berth for the hosts as the second team from Group "A".



Final round of U-15 cricket from Feb 10:

Guwahati: The second round of the Amarjit Sarma U-15 Cricket Tournament will begin at Nagaon and Bongaigaon simultaneously from February 10. Apart from the second round matches, Nagaon will host one semifinal while the other semifinal and the final will be held at Bongaigaon. The date for the semifinals and final have been fixed as February 19 and February 23 respectively. In the second round, 12 team will fight for the honours. Nagaon, Barpeta, Group E runner up, North Lakhimpur, Hailakandi and Rangia will play at Bongaigaon while Bongaigaon, Mangaldai, winner, of group E, Hojai, Silchar and NF Rly will be seen in action at Nagaon.



Army school celebrates sports meet:

Guwahati: Army School Basistha celebrated annual sports meet recently. The programme commenced with the march past by the students of the school. Brig SC Uppal, Cdr 51 Sub Arear was the chief guest at the occasion. The school was established in the year 1992 and presently has approximately 300 students on its roll. The children presented a colourful display of yoga, PT, drill, classical dance and various sports event, which were appreciated by the guests. The main attraction of the programme was various 'yogasanas' enthusiastically displayed by the students.



GCCC, Ankurjyoti up:

Guwahati: Guwahati Cricket Coaching Centre edged past Star Cricket Academy by 31 runs in the 1st Debabrata Banerjee and Vijay Tewari U-15 Prize Money Cricket tournament played at Latasil Playground here on Feb 2. Batting first, GCCC piled up 162 runs at the loss of seven wickets in 20 overs. In reply, Star boys bundled out for 131 runs in 20 overs. In the second match of the day, Ankurjyoti Cricket coaching centre beat Riverrine Cricket Coaching Centre by seven runs. Batting first, Ankurjyoti boys scored 145 runs at the loss of eight wickets in 19 overs. In reply, Riverrine CCC could reached 138 runs at the loss of seven wickets in 19 overs. On 3rd February's match: (semifinal): Ankurjyoti CCA vs Guwahati Cricket Coaching Centre.



Ranjit lifts men's title:

Guwahati: Ranjit Dutta lifted the men's title defeating Momin ali in the All Assam Ranking Tennis championship played at the NETF court on Feb 2. It may be mentioned here that Varsha dutta on Feb 1 lifted the women's title defeating Shivani Dutta.



Mizoram in semis:

Guwahati: Mizoram on Feb 2 entered into the semifinal defeating Manipur by a solitary goal in the ongoing Junior National (NE Zone) football Championship played at Gossaigaon on Feb 2. The important goal was scored by H Lalrem Ruata in the 52nd minute of the match. It may be mentioned here that on Feb 1 host Assam lost to Meghalaya by a solitary goal. On 3rd February's match: Meghalaya vs Tripura.



Assam club soccer from Feb 8:

Guwahati: Udayan Club of Jorhat will take on Everest Club of Karbi Anglong in the inaugural match of the 8th Assam Club Football Championship to be held at Diphu from February eight. AFA Feb 1 release the fixture of the tournament. Altogether 20 teams will take part in this Championships. Last year champion OIL India, ASEB, 2nd ASRF and Assam Rifles have been seeded directly in the last eight stage.



CCC beat Maharana in GSA cricket:

Guwahati: City Cricket Club earned full points in the Madhab Ram Bora Memorial GSA A Division Inter-club Cricket Championship defeating Maharana AC by 19 runs at the Nehru Stadium on Feb 1.



North-east ranking tennis:

Guwahati: The second day of 13th All Assam Ranking Tennis Tournament held at the North East Tennis Foundation Courts ended with no major upset. The veterans doubles matches will start on Jan 30.



NF Rly beat Shillong:

Guwahati: A five wickets haul of Raj Biswa went invain as his team Shillong lost to NF Rly by 50 runs in the U-15 Inter-district Cricket Championship held at the Nehru Stadium here on Jan 29. In the second round match, NF Rly will play against Guwahati on Jan 30.



Kho Kho selection camp:

Guwahati: Assam Kho Kho Association (AKKA) will organise a coaching camp for the National Games 2005. The camp will be held in Bokakhat from February 1. Meanwhile, the selection camp is going on at the Nehru Stadium under the supervision of Arjun awardee coach S Prakash. Altogether, 124 players are attending the camp. AKKA sources said that the selection of the boys will finished by Jan 30 and 36 girls have been selected during the camp.



Goalpara College lift title:

Guwahati: Debnath helped Goalpara College to lift the title of the Inter-college Cricket Championship defeating PG College by 52 runs played at the GU Playground here on Jan 29. Goalpara, batting first scored 114. Chasing an easy target to victory PG College however failed to reached the target as Debnath was devastating with the ball and claimed 5 wickets. PG College bundled out for 62 runs.



Nagaon, Rangiya in semis:

Guwahati: Rangiya junior girls and Nagaon boys cruised into the semifinal of the All Assam Inter-district Kabaddi Championship played at Geetanagar Playground here on Jan 29. In the league phase, Nagaon bagged six points from three matches. Rangiya also earned same points from three matches. In the Men's section, Assam Police leading the table with four points two matches. In the Women's section Pub-Kamrup is on the top with six points.



SCCA, CCCC win respective matches:

Guwahati: Star Cricket Coaching Academy (SCCA) and city Cricket Coaching Centre (CCCC) won their respective matches in the first Debabrata Banerjee (Babua) and Vijay Tewari U-15 Cricket championship being played here at the Latasil ground. In the first match of the day, Star Cricket coaching Academy defeated NFRSA Cricket Academy by 6 wickets. Batting first NFRSA scored 95 for the loss of 9 wickets with Dhruba Kumar (29) scored the highest runs for his team. Star Cricket coaching Academy scored the winning runs in 16 overs losing just four wickets. In the other match, the CCCC beat River Rine Cricket Academy by the same margin. Electing to bat first, River Rine Cricket Academy managed to score 110 losing 8 wickets in the stipulated 20 overs.



All Assam ranking tennis begins:

Guwahati: the 13th All Assam Ranking Tennis Tournament starts here on Jan 28 at the North-east Tennis Foundation Courts. Altogether 146 players from all over the State participated in the tournament. All the seeded players move to the next round.



Chess institute brings laurels:

Guwahati: Representing Guwahati, PC Barooah Chess Academy participated recently concluded 27th All Assam chess Championship held at Rangiya and help Guwahati to clinch best district title after a gap of 9 years. Altogether seven players of PC Barooah Chess academy got position in the championship. In U-9 category R Nivetha clinch the title of champion and in U-11 category Jintumoni Singha and Debasis Dutta got runners up and 3rd position respectively.



Sib Sankar to lead Guwahati:

Guwahati: Sib Sankar Roy will lead Guwahati in the U-15 Inter-district Cricket Tournament currently going on at different venues. Guwahati Sports Association (GSA) on Jan 28 announced the 16 members squad for the tournament. Guwahati will start its campaign on Jan 30 against the winner of NF Rly and Shillong who will face each other on Jan 29 at the Nehru Stadium. Meanwhile in the preliminary match Rangiya beat Goalpara by 27 runs in the U-15 Inter-district match played Goalpara by 27 runs in the U-15 Inter-district match played at the Nehru Stadium on Jan 28. Batting first, Rangiya scored 96 runs. In reply, Goalpara bundled out for 69 runs.



GCCC, Ankurjyoti register win:

Guwahati: GCCC and Ankurjyoti Cricket Coaching Academy on Jan 28 registered win in the inaugural day of the first Debabrata Banerjee (Babua) and Vijay Tewari Memorial Cricket U-15 Cricket Championship played at the Latasil Ground here on Jan 28. In the first match GCCC defeated LCCC by 33 runs, batting first GCCC scored 158 for the loss of two wickets. In reply, LCCC all out for 125 runs. In the other match of the day Noonmati set winning target 118 runs for Ankurjyoti Cricket Coaching Academy which they scored loosing only three wickets.



Goalpara meets PG College in final:

Guwahati: Goalpara College will take on PG College in the final of the Inter-College Cricket Tournament at the GU Ground here on Jan 29. In the second semi-final, on Jan 28 Goalpara College outplayed Darrang College by 97 runs. Batting first, Goalpara College scored a fighting total of 177 runs for the loss of seven wickets in their stipulated 25 overs. Darrang College bundled out for 80 runs.



Nekibur in stellar role as Santipur in final:

Guwahati: Santipur Athletic Club riding on a brilliant all-round performance from Nekibur rahman edged into the final of the Madhab Ram Bora 'A' Division Inter Club Cricket Championships being player here at the Nehru Stadium beating New Star Club by two wickets in a cliff-hanger. Santipur won the toss and decided to field first. New Star batsmen were finding it difficult to get going and were bowled out for 145 in 25.5 overs, not even playing their full quota of overs. In reply, Santipur also found the going tough as they kept on losing wickets but finally managed to reach the target in 29.2 overs losing eight wickets.



Nabajyoti drub Ankurjyoti by 57 runs:

Guwahati: Nabajyoti Club on Jan 22 earned an easy victory over Ankurjyoti Club by 57 runs in the ongoing Madhab Ram Bora 'A' Division Inter Club Cricket Championship held at the Nehru Stadium here. Electing to bat first, Nabajyoti scored a fighting total of 203 at the loss of 4 wickets in their stipulated 30 overs. In reply, Ankurjyoti were bundled out in 146. On January 23 match: Guwahati Town Club Vs River Rine Club.



GU Law College up:

Guwahati: In an exciting match GU Law College on Jan 22 defeated Pandu College by one wicket and entered into the next round of the Inter College Cricket championship at the GU ground here. Batting first, with a fine 42 from Dimdaswar Boro, Pandu College scored 132 at the loss of 8 wickets. In reply, GU Law college scored the winning runs with two balls to spare loosing 9 wickets. Biraj Rajbangshi (38) scored the highest run for GU Law College.



Inter Dist Fencing begins on Jan 22:

Guwahati: The 2nd all Assam Senior Inter District Men and Women Fencing Championship will begin at the ABITA Stadium here on Jan 23. Altogether 60 participants from seven districts will take in this two-day championship which will be organised by the Guwahati District Fencing Association under the ageis of the Assam Fencing Association.



U-13cricket c'ship from Feb 7:

Guwahati: The Ninth Ashrafur Rahim (Raju) Memorial U-13 Inter Coaching Cricket Championship will begin in the city from February 7. The tournament, will for the first time witness coloured clothing and use of white ball. The championship is being organised by the Star Cricket coaching Academy.



Women soccer probable named:

Guwahati: Assam Football Association (AFA) on Jan 20 announced the name of 30 probables who have been selected to attend the coaching-cum-selection camp for the Women National football championship to be held at Bhopal in the second week of February. The camp will be held at Kokrajhar from January 27.



New Star upset GTC:

Guwahati: A superb batting display from Rajib Kalita and Riju Moni Das helped New star Club to register a 91-run win over Guwahati Town Club (GTC) in the Madhab Ram Bora Memorial GSA 'A' Division Inter-Club Cricket Championship held at the Nehru Stadium here on Jan 20. Batting first, New Star scored 230 at the loss of two wickets in the stipulated 30 overs. In reply GTC managed to score 139 at the loss of eight wickets. On Jan 20 Match: Nabajyoti Club vs Maharana AC.
