GSA 'A' Div League: Santipur AC up:

Guwahati: Santipur Athletic Club downed Narakasur Jyoti Sangha by 85 runs in the Madhab Ram Bora GSA 'A' Division Inter-club Cricket Championship played at the Nehru Stadium here on Jan 19. Batting first, Santipur AC scored 214 t the loss of eight wickets in the stipulated 30 overs. In reply, Narakasur Jyoti Sangha bundled out for 129.



PG Classes win opener:

Guwahati: PG Classes on Jan 19 registered 16 runs victory over Dakshin Kamrup college at the inaugural match of the Inter-college Cricket Championship started at the Gauhati University ground here on Jan 19. Batting first PG Classes fixed a target of 140. In reply, Dakshin Kamrup College all out for 123. Earlier, the inaugural function was attended by the GU Vice Chancellor Dr Gajendra Nath Talukdar, secretary and treasurer of the ACA Bikash Barua and Ghanashyam Barua respectively.



Rock climbing camp:

Guwahati: the Assam Mountaineering Association is organising its annual rock climbing-cum-orientation camp for children between the age group of 5 to 12 years in Guwahati. After completion of the programme a batch of 15 children will be selected for a high altitude trekking for San-Dak-Phu in Darjeeling.



Junior tennis tourney at Duliajan:

Guwahati: The All Assam Junior Tennis Tournament, 2004 got under way on Jan 19 at Zaloni Club Courts under the auspices of Oil India Limited (OIL). All together 150 youngsters from various parts of the State taking part in the tournament which is played in Boy's Singles- under 12, 14 and 18 years and Girl's singles- under 14 and 18 years respectively.



Guwahati Cricket Coaching Centre in semis:

Guwahati: Guwahati Cricket Coaching Centre romped into the semi-final of the 10th Guwahati Challange Cricket Championship beating Ankurjyoti Club by nine wickets played at the Latasil Playground here on Jan 19. Batting first, Ankurjyoti Club piled up 188 runs at the loss of eight wickets in the stipulated 30 overs. In reply, Guwahati Cricket Coaching Centre (GCCC) reached the target in 22.3 overs at the loss of one wicket.



U-19 BC Roy national soccer from Jan 28 at Gossaigaon:

Guwahati: Assam will take on Tripura in the inaugural match of the U-19 BC Roy National (NE Zone) Football Championship to be held at Gossaigaon from January 28. Seven team will take part in the championship. Host Assam, Meghalaya, Tripura and Arunachal Pradesh will be in group one while, Manipur, Mizoram and Nagaland placed in the second group. The champion team will qualify for the main round which is scheduled to be held at Jharkhand. The name of the Assam team will be announced shortly, said Assam Football association joint secretary, Tapan Hazarika.



Assam shuttlers in final:

Guwahati: Assam women shuttlers scripted history on Jan 17 when they, for the first time, made it to the final in the team event of the senior National Badminton Championship, currently under way at Hyderabad. Assam beat Mahastra 2-1 in the semi-final.



New Star move into semis:]

Guwahati: New Star Club, Guwahati moved into the semifinal beating Riverrine Club by seven wickets in the second quarter-final match of the 10th Guwahati Challange Trophy played here on Jan 17. Batting first, Riverrine Club piled up 213 runs at the loss of seven wickets in 30 overs. In reply, New Star Club reached the target in 24.1 overs at the loss of three wickets. Third quarter-final: Ankurjyoti Club vs Guwahati Cricket Coaching Centre (January 19).



GTC beat Santipur AC:

Guwahati: Guwahati Town Club beat Santipur AC by three runs in the Madhab Ram Bora Memorial GSA A Division Inter-Club Cricket Championship played at the Nehru Stadium here on Jan 17. Batting first, Guwahati Town Club scored the highest run 34 while, Subhrajit Saikia contributed 25 runs. In reply, Santipur AC bundled out for 133. Subhrajit Saikia of GTC bagged five wickets for 39 runs. Rajen Das of Santipur AC scored 36 runs.



All Assam Chess Championship begins:

Guwahati: The 27th All Assam Chess Championship begins on Jan 17 at Rangiya Basic Training Centre. A total of 17 districts are taking part in the championship. Guwahati is the largest team with 40 members. Rangiya SDO(C), Diwakar Nath Mishra officially inaugurated the championship.



Assam bite the dust:

Guwahati: Bihar beat Assam by six wickets in a limited over Ranji Trophy match played at Jamshedpur on Jan 10. Batting first, Assam scored 271 runs for 9 wickets in the stipulated overs. Parag Das and V Saravanan scored 85 and 74 runs each for the team. In reply, Bihar reached the modest target in 49.1 overs. MS Dhani of Bihar Knocked a brilliant ton of 128 runs.



Assam Police (Blues) beat Maligaon Young Boys:

Guwahati: Assam Police (Blues) beat Maligaon Young Boys Club by 6 wickets in the 10th Guwahati Challanger Cricket Trophy being played in the city on Jan 10. Batting first, Maligaon boys amassed 147 runs at the lost of all wickets in 22.4 overs. In reply, Assam Police (Blues) reached target in 21.1 overs at the lost of our wickets. On Jan 11 match: Riverrine A vs Friends Club, Rehabari.



DGP XI lift trophy:

Guwahati: The Director General of Police XI defeated the Chief Secretary XI in a limited overs friendly cricket match played at the Nehru Stadium on Jan 10. The game was started at 10 am and the skipper of the CS XI Mr JP Rajkhowa won the toss and elected to bat first. The inaugural spell of the game was started with batting by Mr Rajkhowa and ball was thrown by DGP Mr PV Sumant. The CS XI has scored 115 runs for 6 wickets while DGP XI scored 119 runs for five wickets in 24,5 overs and lifted the trophy. Mr Anurag Tankha of DGP XI won the Man-of-the-Match trophy while Mr B Kalyan Chakravarty and Ashatosh Agnihotri of CS XI bagged the best batsman and the best bowler trophy respectively. Mr JP Rajkhowa while handling over the winners trophy to the captain of the winning team Mr Sumant said that apart from cricketing all kinds of games has broaden the mind of the people and enhanced the spirit of camaraderie. The runners-up trophy was handed over to Mr Rajkhowa by Mr Sumant.



Special ACA meet on Jan 10:

Guwahati: A special ACA (Assam Cricket Association) general meeting will be held tomorrow in the city. Amendment of ACA constitution will be the prime issue during the discussion. Meanwhile, Kiran Powar and S Satish have been selected to represent East Zone for the coming Deodhar Trophy Cricket Championship. The East Zone will lock horns with South Zone in their opener at Siliguri on Jan 15.



Assam all out for 246 in Vijay Merchant trophy:

Guwahati: Assam bundled out for 246 runs in a three-day U-17 Vijay Merchant Pre-quarter final cricket match against Andhra Pradesh played at Visakhapatam on Jan 11.



IOA pleased over AOA's report:

Guwahati: Assam Olympic (AOA) on Jan 11 placed the progress report of the National Games 2005 before the Indian Olympic Association's (IOA) executive committee meeting held in New Delhi. The AOA also screened a six minute audio-visual presentation about the developments of Games preparations. State Transport Minister and AOA vice-president Anjan Dutta, State Minister Bhubaneshwar Kalita and AOA secretary Mukut Medhi were present during the meeting. IOA has expressed happiness over the Games preparation.



Riverrine upset Friends Club:

Guwahati: Riverrine 'A' team beat Friends Club, Rehabari by a huge margin of 133 runs in a league match of the 10th Guwahati Challenge Trophy played in the city here on Jan 11. Batting first, Riverrine boys piled up a mammoth total of 311 runs at the loss of three wickets in the stipulated 30 overs. Nausad Ali of Riverrine cracked 123 runs off 56 balls, while Anuj Das contributed 55 runs for the team. Abdul Razzaq of Friends Club took one wicket in his expensive spell. Chasing the huge total, Friends Club, Rehabari could reached 178 runs at the loss of nine wickets in the 30 overs. Ajay Prasad of Friends Club scored 55 runs. Samarendra Tiwari and Gautam Kalita of Riverrine team claimed four wickets each. On Jan 12 match: NFRSA Cricket Academy vs Latasil Cricket Coaching Centre.



ACA governing body extended:

Guwahati: The Assam Cricket Association on Jan 11 extended the tenure of its governing body from two to four years. The decision was taken at a special general meeting of the ACA held in the city. The meeting was chaired by the president of ACA Mr Gautam Roy. ACA vice-presidents Himanta Biswa Sarma, Rupkamal Kakati and general secretary Bikash Baruah were present in the meeting. Except Guwahati almost all other affiliated districts have welcomed the decision of governing body extension and allowed the present governing body to continue another two years.



Club football championship from Feb 8:

Guwahati: The eight edition of the Assam Club Football Championship will be held at Diphu from February 8. The district league champion clubs will be allowed to rake part in the championship. Karbi Anglong Sports Association is organising the event.



New Star register easy win:

Guwahati: New Star Club registered easy victory over Narakasur Jyoti Sangha by nine wickets in the Madhab Ram Borah Memorial GSA 'A' Division Inter club Cricket Championship played at the Nehru Stadium here on Jan 11. Batting first, Narakasur boys all out for 99 runs. In reply, New reached the target in just 12.4 overs.



National Games 2005 - IOA seeks report from Assam Olympic body, meet on Jan 11:

Guwahati: The Assam Government including the Assam Olympic Association appears to be in a fix as the Indian Olympic Association has sought a detailed report of the progress made for the forthcoming National Games to be held in Assam in 2005. The IOA has convened an executive committing meeting on Jan 11 at New Delhi to hold a threadbare discussion on the progress made by the Assam government for holding the Games. State Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi is expected to head the delegation from Assam. The report to be prepared by the State Government will be submitted by the Assam Olympic Association at the meeting.



Guwahati Challenge Trophy

New Star Club beat Gauhati Town Club:

Guwahati: New Star Club on Jan 7 beat Gauhati Town Club by six wickets in the Guwahati Challenge Trophy held at the Latasil ground. Batting first, Guwahati Town Club scored 174 for eight in their stipulated 30 overs. Simanta Neogi and Shubrajeet Saikia scored 45 and 32 runs respectively. Asif Latif (2/24) and Sukumar Barman (2/26) were the most successful bowler for the New Star. In reply, New Star scored the winning run 176-4 in 28.3 overs. Rajeev Kalita was the highest scorer for his team scoring 50 in just 40 balls. Arif Hussain(26) and Plashjyoti Das (25) also contributed small but useful runs to the teams total. Subrajeet Saikia (2/36) bagged the maximum wickets for the Guwahati Town Club.



NE Powerlifting Assn formed:

Guwahati: Mr D R Gogoi, a renowned advocate of the Gauhati High Court and Mr Kalika Prasad Dutta have been unanimously elected president and general secretary respectively of the North Eastern Powerlifting Association at the executive committing meeting of the Indian Powerlifting Federation held at Jamshedpur recently. It may be mentioned here that both Mr Gogoi and Mr Dutta have been actively associated with and promoting weightlifting and Powerlifting in the north eastern region. Mr Gogoi has also been crowned the Master Strongman of Assam in the recently concluded 31st Inter District Powerlifting Championship held at Tezpur, wherein he lifted a total of 502.5 kg, which is a record in the entire north eastern region.



Ankurjyoti Club beats Maharana AC:

Guwahati: Ankurjyoti Club defeated Maharana AC by nine wickets in the Madhab Ram Bora Memorial GSA 'A' Division Inter Club Cricket Championship at the Nehru Stadium, here on Jan 7. Electing to bat first, Maharana AC were all out in 18.5 overs totalling 87 runs. In reply, Ankurjyoti scored 91 for one in 20 overs. The winning team's Trishul scored 36 while Dippu Das totalled 30 runs. On Jan 8 Santipur AC will take on Riverrine Club.



U-19 GSA cricket team named:

Guwahati: Guwahati Sports Association has announced U-19 cricket team for participation in the All Assam JK Baruah Inter-district Cricket Tournament which will be held at Goalpara. Guwahati will play its first match on January 7 against the winner of Goalpara versus Shillong match which is scheduled to be held on Jan 7.



Noonmati Cricket Coaching Centre beat Riverrine Club:

Guwahati: Noonmati Cricket Coaching Centre down Riverrine Club by 147 runs in the opening match of the 10th Guwahati Challenge Trophy Cricket Tournament at the Latasil Playground here on Jan 5. Batting first, Noonmati Cricket coaching Centre scored a huge total of 237 runs in the stipulated overs. Pragyan Bhuyan of the Noonmati Cricket Coaching Centre knocked a brilliant century while Rajib Lashkar of the Riverrine Club took five wickets at the cost of 36 runs. In reply Riverrine Club was all out in just 90 runs. Biswajit Medhi of the winning team took five valuable wickets. Earlier a glittering opening ceremony was held at the venue. The ceremony was attended by Subhas Basumatary, director of Sports Authority of India, NE regional sub centre as the guest.



Ranji Trophy

Assam beat Orissa, earns bonus point:

Guwahati: Assam down Orissa by six wickets in a Ranji trophy one day match played at Jamshedpur on Jan 3. With 3rd Jan's win Assam earned four points and additional one bonus point. Batting first, Orissa team all out for 149 in 43.2 overs. For the winning Assam team skipper Kiran Powar did a lot in both bowling and batting departments. Gautam dutta Dutta, Kiran Powar, Arlen Kowar and Parag Das were the wicket takers for Assam team with two wickets each. Chasing the easy victory target of 150 runs Assam scored 153 runs in just 32.1 overs at the cost of four wickets. Kiran Powar was the top scorer with 44 runs, while R Satish scored 43 runs. In it's next encounter Assam will lock horns with Tripura on Jan 4.



JK Baruah cricket from Jan 7:

Guwahati: The JK Baruah U-19 Inter-district Cricket Championship will be held from January 7 in six different venues of the State. This is for the first time the championship would be held in zonal basis. According to the fixture, the participating teams will be divided into six different zones. Goalpara will be the main venue of the championship, while the other venues are Bongaigaon, Kokrajhar (Lower Assam), Nagaon (Central Assam), Mangaldoi (North Assam), Tinsukia and Dibrugarh (Upper Assam) and Hailakandi (Barak Valley). The preliminary matches will be limited overs, while the second round matches will be two dayers.



ACA announces Ranji team:

Guwahati: The ACA has announced the names of the players who would represent Assam team in one-day Ranji Trophy matches to be played at Jamshedpur. Assam will be playing a total of three one-day matches starting from January 3.



GSA selection-cum coaching camp:

Guwahati: The Guwahati Sports association is going to organise a selection trial-cum-coaching camp from January 2, 1004 at the Nehru Stadium to select the GSA U-19 District cricket team for the JK Baruah Inter district Cricket championship, which would be played at Goalpara. Interested players have been asked to attend the camp with a copy of age proof certificate.



'A' division cricket tourney:

Guwahati: The Guwahati Sports Association has decided to organise the 'A' Division cricket league tournament which would be played at the Nehru Stadium from January 5, 2004. This was stated by Bablu Choudhury, honorary cricket secretary, GSA.



Inter-district athletics' meet gets under way:

Guwahati: The second day of the athletics meet organized by the Assam Higher Secondary Education council here at the Nehru Stadium witnessed the following events: discuss throw (boys), discuss throw (girls), high jump (boys) and javelin throw (girls).



State athlete wins two medals:

Guwahati: State athlete Renu Borah Haque bagged two bronze medals in the 27th Malaysian Sports Council Stadium, Kaula Lumpur representing Indian senior athletes group. Renu bagged the two medals in above 45-year events. A total of 37 country participated in the mega events.



Assam Govt to provide scholarships to sportspersons:

Guwahati: After a gap of almost ten years, the Assam Government has finally decided to provide scholarship to the sportspersons of the State so as to encourage the budding talents in the field of sports. The scheme was stopped during 1992-93. A senior official from the Directorate of Sports said that there would be scholarships for both State level players as well as for those players who have represented themselves in the national level.



Gogoi inaugurates Athletic Meet:

Guwahati: The Athletic Meet organized by the Assam Higher Secondary Education Council began on Dec 28 at the Nehru Stadium here. The events, which took place, were the following: 800m race, (Boys final), 800m race (Girls final), Shot put for both boys and girls team and long Jump (Girls).



Assam romp into comfort zone edging Rajasthan:

Guwahati: Host Assam beat Rajasthan by seven wickets in a Ranji Trophy Group B Elite match at Nehru Stadium here on Dec 20. The four-day match started on Dec 17. From 20th December's victory, Assam earned four points and moved up to a respectable position in the Group B tally with ix points. Assam has already bagged two points from their previous matches.

State paddlers bring laurel:

Guwahati: The XVIIth North-east Sports Festival concluded on December 19 at the Khuman Lampak Stadium, Manipur. In table tennis section, Assam table tennis squad won all the gold medals in the table tennis category. Soneswar Deka and Mitali Das won the triple crown in men's and women's section.

Soccer team announced:

Guwahati: The Guwahati Sports Association (GSA) has announced the names of selected players for U-21 Inter-district Soccer Championship to be held at Dhakuakhana. The selected players are: Kishore Mushahary, Rajesh Tarang, Rubul Borgohain, Akan Khaklary, Jyotish Rabha, Krishna Chetri, Sukleshwar Das, Abedul Ali, Madhusudhan Hazarika, Khirod Das, Baldev Bhomiz, Pratul Basumatary, Dhananjoy Boro, Lochan Rajbonshi, Manoj Boro, Parikhit Rabha, Biju Medhi, Rajesh Boro, Hem Das(manager).

Assam smell victory as visitors face early hiccup:

Guwahati: Assam on Dec 19 completed its first innings against Rajasthan by scoring a convincing total of 306 at a loss of all wickets at the Elite B Group Ranji match, played here on Dec 19 at the Nehru Stadium.

Santipur AC in semis:

Guwahati: Santipur AC on Dec 19 has entered the semifinal of the 12th Dinesh Baruah Memorial Cricket Tournament being played here at the Latasil Ground, defeating NF Rly Coaching Centre by 58 runs.

North Eastern tennis:

Guwahati: Jugesh Chandra Pegu, IRS, Additional Commissioner of Income-tax, Guwahati representing North Eastern Sub-zone in tennis event in the recently held Central Revenue Zonal Sports Meet at Kolkata had beaten 6-2, 6-2 Central Excise and Customs department of Kolkata Zone in the 'veterans singles event'. He was also winner in the men's doubles event teaming up with John Langsteih of Shillong and veteran doubles event with M Chatterjee.

Vijay Merchant Trophy - U-17 State team announced:

Guwahati: The ACA has announced the names of the players who would represent Assam in the U-17 Vijay Merchant Trophy against Sikkim to be played at Sikkim from December 20 to December 22.

Bud Cricket beat New Star:

Guwahati: Bud Cricket Club defeated New Star Club by 67 runs on Dec 18 and entered the semifinal of the 12th Dinesh Baruah Memorial Cricket tournament being played here at the Latasil Ground.

Ankurjyoti Club beat City Cricket Center:

Guwahati: In the second quarter final match of the 12th Dinesh Baruah Memorial Cricket Tournament played here on Dec 17 at the Latasil ground, Ankurjyoti Club defeated City Cricket Coaching Center by five wickets. City Cricket Coaching Center scored a total of 185 at a loss of nine wickets in their stipulated 30 overs.

North-east Games - State to send 163-member delegation:

Guwahati: Assam will send a 163-member contingent to the 18th North-east Games to be held in Manipur during December 16 to 19. The NE Games this time would feature nine disciplines- athletics, badminton, boxing, judo, table tennis, taekwondo, weightlifting and wrestling both for men and women. According to secretary of the Assam State Council of Sports D Hazarika Assam contingent would leave for the Games on December 14. All selected athletes and players have been asked to report to Hazarika at the RG Barua Sports Complex at Nehru Stadium Complex before 10 am on Dec 14.

U-22 cricket from Dec 10:

Guwahati: Assam on Dec 9 announced its squad for the U-22 cricket tie against Bengal to be played at Mangaldoi from Dec 10. The team will be led by Mukut Kalita.

State gymnastic team leave for Chandigarh:

Guwahati: A senior gymnastic team from Assam is leaving for Chandigarh to take part in the Senior National Gymnastics Championship slated from December 26. The team is currently under the guidance of Ganajyoti Das, an NIS coach, Zakhir Hussain Gymnasium Hall. Das said that a total of nine participant would be vying in the tournament. In the artistic men's group, seven participant would be selected from the coaching camp and in the women's ryedemic group, two participant would be selected.

ARC lift Bordoloi Trophy for 2nd time:

Guwahati: Assam Regimental Centre emerged as the champion of the 52nd Lokopriya Gopinath Bordoloi Trophy by defeating Oil India XI Duliajan 3-0 played here on Dec 2 at the Nehru Stadium.

XV PSPB Chess Tournament

ONGC champions:

Guwahati: ONGC came out triumphant defeating IOC in the final of the XV PSPB Chess Tournament concluded recently at Dhaligaon. BRPL hosted the tournament. In a gruelling fight, ONGC became the champion securing 17.5 points against IOC that secured second position with 16 points followed by BPCL with 15.5 points.

Team for Karnataka tie named:

Guwahati: The ACA has announced the names of the players who would represent Assam Ranji team against Karnataka slated to be held from December 25 to December 28 at Bangalore.

Bud Cricket in final:

Guwahati: Bud Cricket Club has entered into the final of the 12th Dinesh Baruah Memorial Cricket Tournament defeating Santipur AC by 57 runs being played here on Dec 21 at the Latasil ground.

Assam bag second position:

Guwahati: The Assam contingent has arrived on Dec 21 in the city after bagging the second position in the 18th North-east Sports Festival recently held at Manipur. Assam has bagged 26 gold medals in the tournament and the Assam Athletic team has grabbed the top position by beating Manipur. The team has won 14 gold, while the badminton squad also secured two gold medals in the men's and women's double.

Trekking by NCC cadets:

Guwahati: More than one thousand NCC cadets from all over the country presently doing trekking Guwahati in the 120 kilometer Pragjyotishpur trek. The route was named by Lt. Col. Ranjit Talukdar, commanding officer, 1st Assam NCC battalion. The trek runs through Pobitora, Sanctuary, Sonapur hills, Byrnihat, Umtru in Meghalaya, Tapesia Tea Garden and the hills of the Bonda Panikhaiti.

DSCL tennis from Dec 15:

Guwahati: DSCL National Tennis tournament would begin from December 15 in Delhi. Priyanuj Lahkar, tennis coach Nehru Stadium, informed that Momim Ali, Suman Debnath and Varsha Dutta from Guwahati have left for the tournament. Varsha and Suman Debnath have already qualified themselves for the main draw U-14 starting from December 15 while Momin Ali is yet to qualify for the U-15, added Lahkar.

Santipur AC drub Young Star:

Guwahati: Santipur AC defeated United Young Star Club at the 12th Dinesh Baruah Cricket tournament being played here on Dec 10 at the Latasil Field. Nekibur Rahaman of Santipur AC scored 110. Rahaman knocked some attractive shot during his ton and kept the opponent in constant pressure, while Rintu Ali scored an unbeaten 62 run. Among the bowlers Chandan Roy emerged as the most successful one with three early wickets. In reply to the huge total of 279, United Young Star Club could manage to score 120 run at the cost of all 10 wickets.

Registration of new players:

Guwahati: The cricket clubs under the GSA have been asked to submit their registration of the new players. The renewal of registration of the old players for the session 2003-04 would start from December 10 and would continue till December 20 at the GSA office. The entry forms for the new players will be available at the GSA office on payment of Rs 10 as informed by Bablu Choudhury, cricket secretary, GSA

GSA annual athletic meet:

Guwahati: The Annual Athletics Meet of the GSA Inter-Club and Inter-educational Institution would start from December 11 and would continue till December 13.

AP Bn man shoots to glory:

Guwahati: Havilder Hem Chandra Kalita of the 4th AP Bn was bang on target winning the gold medal in the 303 Rifle snap shooting competition in the 47th All India Police Meet held at Bhubaneswar recently. Kalita hit the bull seven times in ten attempts while hit the inner ring thrice to shoot his way to glory. A 21-member team from Assam Police took part in the competition where 32 teams including BSF, CRPF, CISF,NSG,RPF, SSB and SPG, etc.

State taekwon-do selection trial on Dec 2:

Guwahati: The Assam Taekwon-do Association is holding a selection trial on December 2, 2003 at ABITA Indoor Hall, Nehru Stadium here from 9am for selection of Assam Teakwon-do contingent to the proposed XVIII North East Festival 2003-2004, to be held in Imphal from December 16 to 19. The AATA affiliated Teakwon-do district have been requested to send only one participant against each WT category which is open to men black belt and colour belt holder to the selection trial.

AAU green signal to construction activities:

Guwahati: The Assam Agricultural University has given necessary clearance to the Director of Sports regarding construction work at its Khanapara field for the required infrastructure for National Games 2005. The matter was conveyed to the Director of Sports through an official letter by the Dean of Veterinary College, Khanapara.

OIL in Bordoloi Trophy final:

Guwahati: Oil India defeated Assam State Electricity Board 1-0 in the semifinal match of the 52nd Lokopriya Gopinath Football Tournament being played here on Nov 29 at the Nehru Stadium.

Assam open campaign in style:

Guwahati: Assam opened their account with a thumping note at the 65th Junior National Table Tennis Championship which began at Cochin on Nov 28. In their opening clash Assam eves team pummeled Chandigarh 3-0. In the boys category, Assam beat Jharkhand by the same score line, an official of the All Assam Table Tennis association informed.

Veteran athletes' selection camp in Nalbari:

Guwahati: Under the supervision of the Nalbari district Senior Athletic Association, a selection camp of the registered senior players will be held at the Nalbari Play ground on Nov 30. The secretary of the association, Thaneswar Saud has asked all the registered members to attend the selection camp. The Nalbari district team to participate the forthcoming All Assam Amateur Athletics competition scheduled to be held at Digboi from December 26 to 28 will be selected in the camp.

One-day knock-out V'ball competition on Nov 30:

Guwahati: Jajari Chahkhowa Pukhuri Academy is organising a knock-out volleyball competition at its own ground on November 30.
