C 0 - 1 sidebending
Pt supine. Palpate TP’s of C 1 with your index fingers just distally and anterior of the mastoid processes. Sidebend head. Axis of movement is through the nose, no deflection is to be seen, otherwise movement is taking place at mid cervical spine. During left sidebend the left TP of C1 will become more prominent as the left occiput movesmedial / inferior / anterior
C 0 - 1 flexion / extension
Same position, hand placement as in sidebending. Flex / extend the head. Axis of movement is through the ears. The movement is fairly subtle, as the mid cervical spine kicks in easily
