Flexion mid cervical spine

Patient seated. One hand on top of the head. Other hand palpates the interspinous space. Flex the head, feel the separation during flexion. Can be performed in supine, non weight bearing position as well.

Patient seated. One hand on top of the head. The other hand palpates the facet joints. Bend the head and the cervical spine backwards until extension occurs at the desired segment. Palpating the spinous processes in extension is usually more difficult. The test can be performed in supine, non-weight bearing position as well.
