3. Distance Learning Foundation Year
KAU offers applicants the opportunity to be enrolled in the university and obtain a bachelors degree through Distance Learning. Tuition fees are 4000 SR each semester starting from the preparatory year. Students maintain contact with their instructors via the internet and e-lectures are conducted byway of electronic classrooms. Students can also contact their instructors via electronic forums. The available faculties that students can be placed in after the completion of the Preparatory year are
- Faculty of Arts and Humanities which include the following departments- Arabic Language- Psychology- English Languages and Literature
- Economics and Management ( which include the following departments General Management Business Administration
I. Entry Requirements
-Applicant must hold Saudi High School Certificate or its equiv- alent.
-Applicant’s High School Certificate score must be 60% or more- Date in which High School Certificate was obtained must be
1998/1999 or beyond. Applicants must be medically fit.
-Applicant must obtain written approval from workplace if he or she is employed.
II. Placement
Students must successfully complete all courses of the Foundation Year before being placed in one of the following faculties:
Faculty of Arts and Humanities Arabic Department Islamic Studies Department Sociology Department English Department Psychology Department (male-students only History Department (female-students only)
Faculty of Economics and Administration
• Business Administration Department General Administration Department- Students are placed in one of the faculties in accordance with the university competitive process, which is based upon the strength of the accumulative GPA, the placement capacity of each faculty, and the requirements of each faculty.
- Requests for placements in faculties are submitted online via the On Demand University Services (ODUS) and only during the designated periods. Requests presented in person or in written form will not be accepted. Failure to submit a request will result in the student being placed according to available places provided all other requirements are met.
- Placement is finalized at the end of the second semester (or the summer session if one is offered- Students cannot transfer from one track to another (Natural Science to Arts or Administration- Students are given a third exceptional semester in order to complete the preparatory year courses. If all courses are successfully completed, students are placed in a faculty appropriate to their GPA (according to the placement indicator of the faculty) provided there are available places in the faculty.
