On the extreme right is a clock mounted on a portable wooden “el” that may have been used to time the arguments of the attorneys presenting oral argument to the court. This artifact is currently in the collection of the Supreme Court Library’s Archives.

This almost certainly refers to the investiture of James E. Joanos as judge at the First District Court of Appeal in Tallahassee. Until 1981, they held court on the second floor (formerly the basement level) of the Supreme Court building. Joanos was appointed in 1980 and served until 2000. I believe he is the young man standing with a young woman on the left side of the photograph. Black and white. 5” x 8”. Circa 1980. Slightly out of focus.
