Description

The existing geometrics of this channel is a trapezoidal channel (120-ft to 70-ft) base width)

lined with riprap. This channel will ultimately be improved as a rectangular channel,

soft bottom, with vertical wall soil-mixed columns armored with sheet piles on

both sides of the wall. The length is approximately 4,000 ft (southerly side only)

culvert (9-ft wide by 6-ft high). The ultimate improvements shall include the addition

Description



The existing channel-culvert was designed for a 25-year storm event and constructed in the

1960’s. The proposed project consists of making improvements to this hydraulically deficient

channel to convey a 100-yr storm event without overtopping. The proposed design is a reinforced

Reinforced concrete rectangular channel with wall heights ranging from 6 ft to 11 ft high.

The width is 26 ft throughout the 3,800-ft long reach. Three roadway under crossings will be

improved; two of which will maintain the existing cell (Carnegie Ave, Palos Verdes Ave).

The additional RCB’s are 4.75-ft wide by 7-ft high on both sides of the existing structure.

The last Undercrossing, Edinger Ave, will be removed and completely improved to a

double barrel 14’x6.75’ RCB.
