Description

The existing channel-culvert was designed for a 25-year storm event and constructed in the

1960’s. The proposed project consists of making improvements to this hydraulically deficient

channel to convey a 100-yr storm event without overtopping. The proposed design is a

Reinforced concrete rectangular channel. The length is approximately 2,800 ft.

This project is located in an identified FEMA Special Hazard Flood Area, Zone A

Description

The proposed mitigation project will replace the existing channel concrete lining which




nears it’s expected life time of 50 years; alleviate the floodplain and mitigate 100-year




Storm events to containment within the channel. The proposed improvements will




include the construction of a single-barrel 10’w x 9.5’h RCB underneath Hoover, a




double-barrel 12’w x 6’h RCB underneath Hazard, relocation of the channel bottom




Access ramp, removal of the hydraulically deficient triple barrel RCB at Poe, and




replacement of the existing concrete trapezoidal channel with a 37’w x 8.5’h




rectangular channel.

Description

Improvements of this reach, constructing vertical sheet piles along both sides of the

Channel, thus allowing to convey the 100-yr storm flows was completed recently.

This project proposes a cathodic Protection (CP) system that is an all galvanic system.
