CHRISTIANSBURG, - Wilbur N. (Pat) Massie died Tuesday in a Virginia Beach hospital. He was a retired salesman and a veteran of World War 1. He attended Woodbury Forest and Virginia Military Academy. Surviving are one son, Wilbur N. Massie, Jr.; 3 grandsons. Funeral will be Friday at 11:00 a.m. from the Richardson Home Funeral Chapel, conducted by the Rev. Vernon Miller. RETIRED CONDUCTOR DIES AT HOME

Jabez Curry MATHENEY, 87, 135 S. Lexington Ave., died today at his home following an extended illness.

A retired conductor of the Norfolk & Western Railroad after 44 years of service. He was born in Rockbridge County, October 1, 1874 , the son of the late Samuel MATHENEY and Elizabeth JOHNSON.

He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Blanche VAUGHAN MATHENEY; three sons, S. G. MATHENEY, Los Angeles, Calif.; William V. MATHENEY, Bakers Field, Calif. And Herman D. MATHENEY, Washington D. C.; six daughters, Miss Daisey Lou MATHENEY, Miss Margaret MATHENEY and Miss Claudine MATHENEY all of Pulaski; Miss Elizabeth MATHENEY, Mrs. Vivian SLACK and Mrs. P. A. NEFF, all of Washington, D. C. and one grandchild,

The body is at Thomas M. Seagle and Sons Funeral Home pending arrangements.

Orlean Emsor MATHERLY, 64, died yesterday afternoon in a Marion hospital. He is survived by one daughter, Mrs. James ADKINS of Akron, Ohio; two sons, John B. MATHERLY and George H. MATHERLY of Danville; three sisters, Mrs. J. G. LONG, Mrs. E. C. WINDLE and Mrs. B. B. MARSHALL, all of Pulaski and one brother J. D. MATHERLY also of Pulaski



Funeral services will be held Saturday at 3 p.m. from Strickler’s Chapel, conducted by Rev. Clayton Sweet Jr. Burial will follow in Hickam Cemetery near Radford. The body will remain at Strickler’s Funeral Home. The deceased was a veteran of World War I and graveside services with full military honors will be held be held by Langley Air Force Squad.

MATHERLY, Rushia Goad, 91, of Radford, passed away Wednesday, February 23,
2000 at the New River Medical Center in Christiansburg. She was a member of
the First Baptist Church in Radford. She was preceded in death by her
husband, Ervin Matherly. Survivors include four sons and daughters-in-law,
Irvin Lynwood and Martha Matherly of Blacksburg, Va., Conrad and Mary
Matherly of Radford, Va., Galin Matherly of Radford, Va., and Rev. Rance
Goad and Nevlin Goad of Sun City Center, Fla.; seven grandchildren and ten
great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Friday, February 25,
2000, at 11 a.m. at the Mullins Funeral Home in Radford with the Rev. Joe
Burton officiating. Interment will follow in the Sunrise Burial Park in
Radford. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. at Mullins Funeral
Home on Thursday, February 24, 2000. Arrangements by Mullins Funeral Home &
Crematory in Radford.

Matthews age 94 of 1100 Prospect Ave. died Monday afternoon at Heritage Hall Blacksburg. She was the widow of Alvin
Chapman Matthews and a member of the First United Methodist Church. Born April 17, 1881, in Smyth County, Va., she was the
daughter of the late Peter Snavely Groseclose and Susan Allen Groseclose. Surviving are one daughter, Mrs. Robert P. Beamer,
Pulaski: three sisters, Mrs. T. J. Scott, Shawsville, Mrs. R. S Bond, Culpeper; Mrs. W.R. Parks, Roanoke; one brother, L. E. Groseclose, Princeton, W.Va.; one grandson, William R. Beamer, Pulaski. Funeral services will be Wednesday at
11 a.m. at Stevens Funeral Chapel with the Rev. James Hankins officiating. Burial will be in Highland Memory Gardens. Dublin, Va. In lieu of flowers the family requests gifts to the Stain Glass Window Fund, First Methodist Cliurch- The family will receive friends from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m.

DEATH OF REV. J.R. MATTHEWS
January 1919
The Rev. John R. MATTHEWS died Wednesday at his home at Saltville as a result of pneumonia super induced by the influenza. Mr. MATTHEWS succeeded the Rev. Thos. F. OPIE as rector of the Saltville parish of the Episcopal Church which work he took up last September. During the short time he was in charge he had made many friends. His wife is also reported to be very ill.

MAYBERRY, Lawrence Liberty, 84, of Radford, died Thursday, December 19, 2002
in a Durham North Carolina hospital. He was a retired Employee of Hercules,
Inc. and a Veteran of World War II. Surviving are a niece, Peggy M. Cox,
Radford; two nephews, Doug Mayberry, Dublin, and Donnie Mayberry, Radford;
along with several other nieces and nephews. A Graveside Service will be at
2 p.m. Sunday, December 22, 2002 at Westview Cemetery. VFW Post #776 will
conduct Military Graveside Services. Friends may call from 1 to 1:45 p.m. on
Sunday, December 22, 2002 at The De Vilbiss Funeral Home, Radford.

Mrs. Chaffin Roseberry McCall age 68, of Abingdon died Sunday April 6, 2003 at her home.
A native of Pulaski, Virginia, Mrs. McCall had lived in Abingdon for 56 years. She graduated from William King High School and was a retired receptionist having worked at Abingdon Medical Group and French H. Moore, Jr. and French H. Moore III Dental Group. Mrs. McCall was a member of Abingdon Bible Church. She was a member of Johnston Memorial Hosptial Auxillary and Red Hat Society.
She is survived by her husband of 48 years, William H. “Bill” McCall; one son: Dr. Gary W. McCall and wife Jimmie Lynn of Luling, LA; one daughter: Judy McCall Lutzo and husband Ray of Abingdon; four sisters: Jane Williams of Knoxville, TN; Margaret Wood of Logan, AL; Edna Becker of Asheville, NC; Susan Carpenter of Lake Charles, LA; five grandchildren: Wes McCall, Will McCall, Walt McCall, Nicholas Lutzo, and Brittany Lutzo.
The family will receive friends from 6- 8 PM at Abingdon Bible Church followed by a funeral service at 8 PM. Rev. Paul J. Bufford will officiate.
A committal service will be held Wednesday April 9, 2003 at 10 AM at Bethel Presbyterian Church Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Bill Felty, Willis Blevins, Jack Taylor, Bob Mitchell, Jim Hardwick, and Malcolm Sprinkle.
Honorary pallbearers will be her nephews and member of the Senior Adult Sunday School Class of Abingdon Bible Church.
A special thanks to Virginia Hospice Service, especially, Naomi Barrett, Beverly Henley, and Paige DeBord.

McCOY, Odell Christy, (Jiggs), 52, of Radford, died Monday, April 24, 2000.
The Lord sent his angels to escort Odell to his home that Jesus said he
would prepare for him. The Lord's angels watched over him through his
courageous battle with cancer. He was born in Radford, Va. on March 22,
1948. Odell attended the Fairlawn Church of God and was the owner and
operator of Concrete Designs in Radford. Odell will be remembered by his
wife, Linda Jordan McCoy; his two daughters, Chrissy and Mary McCoy, all of
Radford; his mother, Lela McCoy of Decatur, Ala.; two brothers, Raymond
McCoy of Pensacola, Fla., Jimmy McCoy of Decatur, Ala.; four sisters,
Carolyn Mitchell, Valerie Kelly, Cathy West, and Ann Borden, all of Decatur,
Ala.; and a special first cousin, Eddie Assad of Parrott, Va. Funeral
services will be conducted Thursday, April 27, 2000 at 11 a.m. in the
Fairlawn Church of God with the Rev. Danny Newman officiating. Interment
will follow in the Rockford United Methodist Church Cemetery, Radford.
Odell's remains will be placed in the church at 5 p.m. on Wednesday and the
family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Fairlawn Church of God.

Fred Woodrow McCoy, age 85, of Radford, Virginia, died Sunday, December 16, 2001, in Orlando, Florida, after suffering a heart attack while on vacation there. He lived for ten days after undergoing a quadruple bypass.
Born April 25, 1916, he was the son of the late Albert and Ora Clowers McCoy, of Hillsboro.
He grew up in Hillsboro, going to Hillsboro High School, attended Concord College and then graduated from Radford College. He coached at Radford High School for a year before going into Service in 1944 and then returned to coach another nine years before going into the insurance business. In 2000 he was inducted into the Radford University Hall of Fame; he had served as chairman of the University’s Athletic Foundation in his later years.
He was a member of Grove United Methodist Church, where he taught Sunday school. He was also a member of the Virginia May Masonic Lodge #38 A.F.&A.M. and the Kazim Shrine Temple.
Mr. McCoy is survived by his wife, Kitty Sisson McCoy; two sons, Fred Douglas McCoy, of Savannah, Georgia, and James Andrew McCoy, of Lebanon, Virginia; four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; a brother, Roy McCoy, of Longwood, Florida; and a sister, Ruth McCoy Karnes, of Gallagher.
Funeral services were held December 22 at Grove United Methodist Church by the Rev. Warren Stewart. Burial followed in the West View Cemetery in Radford with military rites conducted by VFW Post #776.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Grove United Methodist Church, 1020 Tyler Avenue, Radford, Virginia 24141.

McDANIEL, Joseph Andrew, of Riner, departed this life to join his wife, Mary
Ellen Surface McDaniel in Heaven on Tuesday, January 16, 2001 at Wheatland
Hills Retirement Center in Radford, Va. He will be greatly missed by his
devoted daughter and son-in-law, Betty Jo and Charles Hypes of Riner, Va. He
is also survived by several nieces and nephews, two sisters-in-law, and two
special friends, Ethel Nunley and Grace Phillips. The family would also like
to thank the Joy Makers, singing group, for the beautiful music and time
shared with him. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Thursday, January 18,
2001, at the Horne Funeral Chapel conducted by Rev. Don Sunshine. Interment
will follow in the Den Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6
until 8 p.m. Wednesday evening at the Horne Funeral Service, Christiansburg.

McELRATH, Electa Ruth, 87, of Wilmington, Del., formerly of Christiansburg, Va., died Tuesday, January 20, 1998, in Wilmington. The daughter of the late Mason Price and Ruth Olinger Price, she was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas S. McElrath, in 1965. She is survived by one son, Thomas S. McElrath Jr. of Newark, Del., and two grandsons, Daniel and Alan McElrath. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Monday, January 26, at Richardson-Horne Funeral Home, conducted by the Rev. Richard H. McEVER, Eleanor Stover, 92, of Blacksburg, died Sunday, January 28, 2001, at Kroontje Health Care Center. She was born in Luray, Va. on April 11, 1908 to the late William Ruffner and Martine Lockett Stover. She was a graduate of Virginia Intermont College in Bristol, Va. She was a longtime member of the Blacksburg Presbyterian Church where she served as President of the Women of the Church and was a member of the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution. She was preceded in death by her husband, H. Macauley "Mac" McEver and a son, H.M. "Buddy" McEver, Jr. She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Frances M. H. and George Russell of Blacksburg; a son and daughter-in-law, William Stover and Vicki McEver of Warrenton, Va.; a sister, Mary Shelley of Silver Spring, Md.; four grandchildren, Elizabeth Hutcheson Domico, Thomas B. Hutcheson, III, Dr. Joel C. Hutcheson, Mark A. McEver; and four great-grandchildren, Patrick H. Domico, Adam T. Domico, Thomas B. Hutcheson, IV, Henry R. Hutcheson. Graveside services will be held Thursday, February 1, 2001, at 10:30 a.m. in Westview Cemetery, Blacksburg. A memorial service will be conducted Thursday, February 1, 2001, at 11 a.m. in the Blacksburg Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Alex Evans officiating.
