MITCHELL, Claude H., Sr., 84, of Roanoke, passed away peacefully on
Thursday, December 19, 2002. He was born January 19, 1918 in Montgomery
County, Va. He was preceded in death by his parents, A. B. and Ida Mitchell;
his former wife, Elizabeth; a sister, Edith Mitchell; and one brother, Paul
A. Mitchell. Surviving are his wife, Ann Mitchell; a son, Claude H.
Mitchell, Jr. and wife, Hattie of Charlottesville, Va.; granddaughter, Tracy
Mitchell and husband, John Young of Winchester, Va.; stepdaughters, Suzanne
Parsells of Roanoke, Va., Nancy Wilson and husband, Michael of Crozier, Va.;
stepgrandsons, Aaron and John Michael. Claude was a member of Melrose
Christian Church. He was retired from Phelps and Armistead after 20 years of
service. He will be sadly missed by those who loved him and his memory will
remain forever in our hearts. The family suggests that memorials be made to
Melrose Christian Church, 4807 Cove Road, Roanoke, Va. 24017. The family
will receive friends Friday, December 20, 2002 from 7 to 9 p.m. at Oakey's
South Chapel. A funeral service will be conducted at Oakey's South Chapel,
11 a.m. Saturday, December 21, 2002 with the Reverend George L. Edwards
officiating. Burial will follow at 2:30 p.m. Saturday in Indian Creek
Cemetery, Floyd County, Va. Arrangements by Oakey's South Chapel,
(989-3131).

Mrs. Lola Ellen MONTGOMERY, 88, of Allisonia, died yesterday afternoon at her home. She is survived by two daughters, Mrs. K.M. WEBB of Allisonia and Mrs. Edgar WEBB of Princeton, W.Va.; two sons, F.P. MONTGOMERY of Cumberland, Md. And B.L. MONTGOMERY of Bluefield, W.Va.; nine grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren

Funeral services will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. at Strickler’s Funeral Chapel, with burial at Dry Pond Cemetery in Carroll County. The body will remain at Strickler’s.

MOONEY, Rev. Lawrence E. Sr., 76, of 4411 Crockett Ave., Pulaski, passed away Tuesday, October 23, 2001 in the New River Valley Medical Center, Radford. He was born March 23, 1925 in Pulaski and was the son of the late Henry and Ada Mooney. He was also preceded in death by a sister, Lena Turman. Rev. Mooney was the pastor of Midway Church of God of Prophecy in Pulaski. He was retired from Blue Ridge Transfer and was a veteran, having served in the U. S. Army. Surviving are his beloved wife of 53 years, Eva Sue Mooney, Pulaski; son and daughter-in-law, Larry E. and Becky Mooney, Dublin; daughter and son-in-law, Sharon and Jimmy Gravley, Dublin; sisters, Clara Nelson, Pulaski, Pauline Lavender, Roanoke; grandchildren and spouse, Jennifer and Danny Shouse, Dublin, Susan Gravley, Dublin, Scott Gravley of Ohio; great-grandchildren, Hannah Shouse, Dublin, Chelsea Gravley, Dublin, Tyler Gravley, Dublin and Eric Gravley, Radford. Funeral services will be held Friday at 2 p.m. from the Midway Church of God of Prophecy, Pulaski, with the Rev. J. E. Brissom and the Rev. Cecil Frazier officiating. Burial will follow in Highland Memory Gardens, Dublin. Visiting will be Thursday evening from Stevens Funeral Home, where the family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Arrangements by Stevens Funeral Home, Pulaski.

DUBLIN - Mrs. Lula Vermillion MOORE, age 72, died Saturday night in the Pulaski Community Hospital. She was born in Dublin, Va., February 18, 1904, daughter of the late George A. VERMILLION and Claudia DARST VERMILLION. She was a member of the Dublin United Methodist Church. She is survived by her husband, R. Rolen MOORE; one sister, Mrs. Margaret V. ATKINSON, Pulaski. A graveside service will be held Tuesday at 11:00 a.m. in Dublin Cemetery, conducted by the Rev. Henry Holt, assisted by the Rev. Manson Tate and Rev. Gary Gloster. Memorial contributions may be made to charity of choice. Friends may call at Stevens Funeral Horne, Pulaski, Monday. The family will receive friends from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. at the funeral home.

Death of J.D. MOORE
James David MOORE, son of the late Noah B. MOORE died at his home near Red Oak Grove Thursday morning after several weeks sickness from several diseases.
Mr. MOORE was nearly 66 years of age having been born October 10, 1856 and departed this life Aug. 17, 1922. He was a man widely known, and highly esteemed, a good honest upright citizen.
His funeral was preached on Friday at the Pine Creek Church by Elds. J.M. DICKERSON, Elijah NESTER, and H.V. COLE, of the Primitive Baptist Church in the presence of a very large crowd who had assembled to pay a last tribute of respect to one they admired and esteemed. After the funeral he was laid to rest in the cemetery close by. He was not a member of any church but lived a good moral contientious life.
He leaves a wife who was Miss Emily WINTER before marriage, one son and four daughters - Noah MOORE, Mrs. H.L. MARTIN, Mrs. J.L. HALE, Mrs. Archa NAFF, Mrs. Roy MARTIN and Miss Woodie MOORE all of the county and all were present at the funeral and buriel, this being the first death in the family. Besides these he leaves a brother, seven sisters, and a large host of other relatives
We extend deepest sympathy to the bereaved family.

MOORE, Annie Gertrude, (Polly), 85, of Radford, died Sunday, December 17,
2000. She was a retired seamstress. Surviving are a sister and
brother-in-law, Thelma and Carroll Cox of Radford; a nephew, Howard Moore; a
niece, Debbie Moore Linkous; four special nieces and husbands, Bob and
Barbara Bove, Keith and Judy Crowder, Chuck and Becky Morris, and Greg and
Sandy Howard; five special great nephews, Andrew Crowder, Chuck Crowder,
Grayson Howard, Charlie Morris, and William "Chance" Morris. Funeral
services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, December 20, 2000, at the DeVilbiss
Funeral Chapel with Mr. Larry Phillips officiating. Interment will follow in
Capt. George Quesenberry Cemetery, Floyd County. The family will receive
friends from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, December 19, 2000, at the DeVilbiss
Funeral Home, Radford.

MOORE, Jack Greene, 68, of 954 Locust Street, Pulaski, Virginia, passed away
Wednesday, January 5, 2000 at the Pulaski Community Hospital. Born October
1, 1931 in Pulaski, Virginia, he is the son of Allie Asper Moore and the
late Stover Greene Moore. One brother, Patrick E. (Rookie) Moore, also
preceded him in death. He was a veteran of the United States Army having
served during the Korean War. He served with the Army National Guard of
Virginia. He was retired from Burlington Industries with over 36 years of
service. He was a Charter Member and Deacon of the Pulaski Presbyterian
Church in America. He was a past member of the New River Valley Rescue
Squad. He is survived by his wife, Polly Ogle Moore, Pulaski; three
daughters and sons-in-law, Connie and Joseph Miller, Hiwassee, Terri and
Dean Pratt, Draper, Jackie and Randall Morris, Pulaski; four granddaughters,
Meagan and Meredith Pratt, Draper, Makayla Morris, Pulaski, Caitlin Miller,
Dublin; two grandsons, Brayden Morris, Pulaski, Andrew Miller, Dublin;
mother, Allie Asper Moore, Richmond; two sisters, Mildred Pridgen, Sandston,
Va., Martha Moore, Richmond; four brothers, William A. Moore, Pulaski,
Emmett L. Moore, Richmond, Gilbert E. Moore, New Kent, Va., Murrell S.
Moore, Sandston, Va. Funeral services will be conducted Friday 2 p.m. at the
Bower Funeral Chapel with Pastor Rusty Whitener officiating. Interment will
follow in Highland Memory Gardens, Dublin. The family will receive friends
Thursday evening from 7 to 9 p.m. at Bower Funeral Chapel or anytime at the
homeplace, 954 Locust Street, Pulaski. In lieu of flowers, memorial

Matthew "Matt" Talmadge Moran, 15, of Radford, passed away Friday, July 4, 2003 at the home of his mother. He was a freshman at Radford High School. Survivors include his father, Vernard T. Moran, Jr. of Radford; his mother, Sarah Meredith Barnett of Radford; a sister, Meredith Moran of Radford; paternal grandmother, Anna G. Moran of Radford; maternal grandparents, Douglas and Merlyn Meredith of Myrtle Beach, S.C.; and his best friend, Brigham Doud and all the other young men and women who supported him throughout his illness. A special thank you to Matt’s "special #2 mom, Karen McQueen, and to Jessica Reed, for all their love and support. Funeral services will be held Monday, July 7, 2003 at 11 a.m. at Central United Methodist Church in Radford with the Rev. Charles Lockerby and Pastor Arthur Harris officiating. Interment will follow in Sunrise Burial Park in Radford. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be made to either the American Cancer Society or the Matt Moran Scholarship Fund, c/o Radford High School. MORAN, Eileen Faye Linkous, 61, of Blacksburg, died Friday, June 29, 2001 in
Montgomery Regional Hospital. She was preceded in death by her parents, John
and Ida Linkous. She is survived by her husband, Shirley R. Moran of
Blacksburg; one sister, Shirley L. Brunty of Chadsworth, Ga.; two brothers
and sisters-in-law, Bernard and Norma Linkous, Marlin and Pat Linkous, all
of Blacksburg; mother-in-law, Essie Moran of Floyd. She is also survived by
three nieces, five nephews, four great-nieces, and one great-nephew, and a
special friend, Maxine Cook. Friends may call anytime after 12 noon Sunday,
July 1, 2001, at the Horne Funeral Home where the family will receive
friends from 4 to 6 p.m. Sunday evening. There will be a graveside service
held in the Linkous Family cemetery in Merrimac Monday, July 2, 2001 at 11
a.m. with the Rev. John Early, the Rev. Jube Burk, and the Rev. Jerry Sloss
officiating. The family request that in lieu of flowers that contributions
be made to the New River Valley Free Clinic, 106 South Franklin Street,
Christiansburg, Va. 24073. Arrangements are being handled by Horne Funeral
Service in Christiansburg.

MOREHEAD, Lloyd Thomas, 79, of McCoy, died Sunday, June 3, 2001 at
Montgomery Regional Hospital. He was born in Montgomery County, Va. on
October 31, 1921 to the late Bose Lloyd and Ella Mae Davis Morehead. He was
also preceded in death by his wife, Julia Pauline "Polly" Morehead. Lloyd
was a decorated veteran of WWII, receiving the Bronze Star and the Purple
Heart. Lloyd was retired from Hercules, Inc. with many years of service and
had been very active in the McCoy Community with Boy Scouts, Ball Park and
Community Christian Church. He is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, L.
Terry and Wanda B. Morehead; a grandson, L. Keith Morehead, all of McCoy;
sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Almeta A. McCoy of McCoy, Ray T. "Tommy"
and Harriett McCoy of McCoy, Lois Morehead of Blacksburg and numerous nieces
and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday, June 6, 2001 at 2
p.m. in the Community Christian Church with Mr. James O. Flaugher
officiating. Interment will follow in the Centennial Christian Church
Cemetery, McCoy. Friends may call anytime Tuesday and the family will
receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday evening at the McCoy Funeral Home,
Blacksburg.

MOREHEAD, SYLVIA SUSAN, 78, of Radford, went to be with her Lord on Tuesday, December 11, 2001, at her daughter's home with both of her daughters by her side, after a long illness. The daughter of the late Roy and Ollie Campbell, she is also preceded in death by one sister, Unice, and three brothers, Willie, Dewey and Noah Campbell. She is survived by two daughters, Lorene Eanes of Radford, Kathy Dawson of Broomfield, Colo.; one sister, Geraldine Goins of Floyd. She is also survived by three grandchildren, five great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter; and several nieces and nephews. Friends may call anytime after 12 noon Thursday, December 13, 2001, at Horne Funeral Home where the family will receive friends from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday evening. The funeral service will be held at 3 p.m. Friday at Belview United Methodist Church with Rev. Aaron Finch and Rev. Sebert Rorrer officiating. The interment will follow in Highland Memory Gardens, Dublin. The family wishes to express their appreciation to Dr. Matt Skewes and Dr. Cleve Sinor and all other doctors, nursing staff and the kitchen staff with Carilion New River Valley Medical Center for their excellent care given and heping make her transaction more peaceful, also the New River Valley Hospice. of Pulaski, died Thursday morning at Pulaski Community Hospital.
She was a retired civil service employee.
Surviving are two brothers, Ned MORGAN, Radford, and Adiel MORGAN, Dublin; and two sisters, Mrs. Katie FARMER and Mrs. Edra SMITH, both of Dublin. A graveside service will at 2 p.m. Saturday at Hickman Cemetery, Pulaski County, with the Rev. Ann Blair officiating. The family will receive friends

Mrs. Morris’ death was due to the influenza of which she had been sick about two weeks. Prior to her marriage she was Miss Lucy LINKOUS, a daughter of the late Alec LINKOUS, and was born and reared in Pulaski county. Her husband and seven children survive her: Randolph, Jeanette, Edward, Eugene, Elgin, Linhan and Genevieve, in which family circle she will be sorely missed. There are also these brothers and sisters: F. H. LINKOUS, of Botetourt county; Mrs. Nannie COVEY, J. R. LINKOUS, J. H. LINKOUS and R. M. LINKOUS, of Hiwassie, and Mrs. A. L. QUESENBERRY, of Pulaski. Her age was 40 yrs, 8 months and 10 days.
She had been a member of the Newbern Methodist church for a number of years.

The funeral of Mrs. James MORRIS, who died on Sunday, was conducted Tuesday morning at 11 o’clock from her home, interment being made in the Newbern cemetery. The service was conducted by the Rev. M. E. HANSEL, of the Presbyterian church, in the absence of her pastor, the Rev. J. R. Guy, who was indisposed.
Mrs. Morris death was due to the influenza of which she had been sick about two weeks. Prior to her marriage she was Miss Lucy LINKOUS, a daughter of the late Alec LINKOUS.

MORRIS, H. Wayne, 54, of Roanoke County, passed away Sunday, December 9, 2001 at his home. He was the son of the late Herman and Virginia Morris of Pulaski County, Va. Wayne worked at American of Martinsville as Director of Marketing. He is survived by his wife, Cheryl H. Morris; and daughters, Aislynne D. Morris of Alexandria, Va., and Kimberly A. Morris of Roanoke County. He is also survived by his mother-in-law, Martha M. Hollowell; brothers-in-law, James J. Hollowell, Bill Hollowell and his special friend, Sharon Madagan; nieces, Kristina Hollowell, Heather H. Clark and husband, Darrenn Clark; nephew, James Hollowell; great nephew, Hayden Clark. A memorial service will be held at St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church, Tuesday, December 11, 2001 at 1 p.m. Pastor Mark Graham will officiate. Wayne's caring and giving spirit will be missed by all who knew him and loved him. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church Building Fund, 4608 Brambleton Ave., Roanoke, Va. 24018. Arrangements by Oakey's South Chapel.
