A carefully researched & balanced interpretation of how many people viewed & continue to view Timothy Treadwell, the man who loved bears & who, along with his friend Amie Huguenard, met his death by the same in the "Grizzly Maze" in Katmai National Park. The author gives the reader good information on Treadwell's background, as well as a probing examination of many aspects of Treadwell's life during the thirteen summers he spent among the brown bears of the Katmai coast of Alaska. An engaging account of the forensics involved in the double death & what might have led up to them is a significant part, but only a part of this well-written book. The author leads the reader, with serious personal reflection born of his own life lived in the close vicinity of bears, into serious reflection on the mystique of bears as humans consider them.
