A typical lengthy entry has Name/company, birth/death years, Chronology, Directory Listings, Artifacts, Photographer's Imprints, Official Records, New Items and Advertisements, Bibliography. C. B. Hamilton & Son, Topeka, 1890, 1890. First Edition. Book. Lovely gilt-stamped & decorated cloth. 277pp. Illustrated with many wood engravings of landscape, architecture, & portraiture. The preliminary blank page has a modern, nine-line ink presentation inscription in 1981 from a woman who was a great-granddaughter of Col. John Shanklin. Shanklin has two pages of biography at the end of the book. He was at one time a member of the Townsite Commissioners in Oklahoma Territory. The presentation is to the woman's grandson. The cover sub-title is, "The Land of the Fair God." This book represents the first history of Oklahoma Territory after mass opening to white settlement. There is also considerable information on the natural characteristics of the land. Professionally rebound in original covers, with new floral endpapers closely matching the originals. Extremities & edges of the covers worn, but not severely so. Very scarce.
