Combining FS-03 Control Units
Two FS-03 control units may be combined for a single room application for a maximum of 16 CTG microphones. When combined the master FS-03 will monitor microphone activity to maintain high performance during teleconferencing. Presenter preset 7 and Q&A preset 8 are strongly recommended to control unwanted side conversations typical in larger spaces.

Expansion In & Out

These 6-pin mini-DIN connectors are for linking two FS-03 control units to expand a system up to 16 microphones. To link a FS-03, simply connect the cable from the Expansion Out jack of the first FS-03 to the Expansion In jack of the second FS-03. The second FS-03 (with no Expansion Out jack connection) becomes the ‘master’. The ‘master’ collects audio signals & control data from the other

FS-03, which becomes a ‘slave’.

Troubleshooting Guide

General:
System installers are urged to contact CTG support when adjusting the system to take advantage of free technical support and have the comfort of knowing the system is functioning optimally. CTG’s support is equipped with video, which can add an additional dimension when aiding with a system installation.
Frequently, when a system does not function as expected, it is due to poor connections between components of a system and/or faulty cables. These would be initial areas to inspect.
Typically when speaking into a CTG microphone nothing will be heard from the local speakers. This is normal as the sound is being sent to the distant end. Specific settings are used for those situations where it is desired to have sound from the local speakers such as program audio, presentations etc.
Based on support calls these are some of the more common problems and suggested solutions:

  • Audio is not heard at the distant end

Use a short length of cable to connect the Teleconference Output directly to the Teleconference Input port on the back of the FS-03. If you can hear room sounds (usually accompanied by feedback) in the room speakers, the microphones, mixer circuits and the speaker amplifier are all working. Look for a problem with the cabling, or the teleconference interface.

Adjust send level (clockwise) for teleconference out “to codec” or “to telephone interface” on back of the CTG teleconference interface.

Test each microphone in the room to determine they are on.

  • Local room cannot hear distant end participants

Make sure the input and output cables are not reversed at either end. The output from the FS-03 must connect to the input of a video codec or telephone interface, and the input to the FS-03 must connect to the output of the video codec or telephone interface.

Examine the volume control knob on the front of the FS-03 to determine it is not turned all the way counterclockwise.

  • The distant end complains of hearing echo or feedback

Your send or receive levels may be set too high for the echo canceller to function normally.

Connections between the FS-03 and the codec or telephone interface may be connected to jacks that are not routed through the echo canceling circuit.

Speaker and microphone cables may be run in intimate proximity to each other resulting in induced crosstalk. High and low level signal cables should not be bundled together or routed close together through the same conduit for any significant distance.

  • The microphones are picking up excessive room noise

One or more microphones may be placed too close to a noise source such as an HVAC register, projector, or other device having a loud fan.
The send (output) level may be set too high on the rear of the FS-03 increasing the microphone sensitivity level. This is masked by the Automatic Gain Control of the codec or telephone interface which reduces the overall volume while the microphones continue to pick up excessive ambient noise. The output potentiometer should be turned down until all or most of the ambient noise disappears without the loss of adequate voice pickup.
