Please consider the programme standards below. All IB World Schools are expected to work towards achieving these standards as they fully implement and develop the MYP. They form the basis of the regular programme evaluation self-study, visit and subsequent visiting team report.

For each section, please write a brief outline of your school’s position as it prepares to further develop the MYP according to these standards.



Section A: philosophy

Standard A1

There is close alignment between the educational beliefs and values of the school and those of the programme.

The school promotes international-mindedness on the part of the adults and the students in the school community.





Brief outline:

At Riverwood High School:
MISSION STATEMENT:   In appreciation of our diverse community, the mission of Riverwood High School is to educate and challenge students to become respectful and responsible citizens equipped with knowledge and skills necessary to successfully communicate, solve problems, and use technology in the 21st century as a part of an ever-changing global society.
In addition, Riverwood is one of Fulton County School’s four Magnet sites, offering the International Studies and International Baccalaureate Programs. Enrolling over 50% of the student body, the International Studies Program is a challenging four-year curriculum that focuses on world issues, global economics, cultural awareness and field experiences such as internships and travel.

As part of its International Studies Program, Riverwood also offers the International Baccalaureate Diploma Program, recognized around the world for its high academic, service and examination requirements. Students in the International Studies Program may also take individual IB courses for Certificates. Riverwood holds accreditation by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools, the International Baccalaureate Organization, the International Baccalaureate North America and the Magnet Schools of America.





Section B: organization




Standard B1


The school demonstrates ongoing commitment to, and provides support for, the programme through the appropriate administrative structures and systems, staffing and resources.




Brief outline: The administration of both schools are committed to the successful implementation of the middle Years Programme for all students. Toward this end they have:

    • Provided release time for coordinator position.

    • Created class schedules that allow for maximum hours of contact time in each subject.

    • Adjusted teacher schedules to create planning time that allows staff to collaborate vertically and horizontally.

    • Committed a number of early release days for staff at each building to plan together.

    • Provided budget to allow staff to receive MYP training and to allow staff to attend the IBNA annual conference.

    • Provided staffing that places Highly Qualified (as defined in No Child Left Behind legislation) instructional staff in all eight MYP subjects.

    • Given MYP Coordinators the ability to create and appoint MYP leadership teams, AOI champions, Community Service coordinators and other MYP support positions.

    • Identified and been supportive of ways to include as many students as possible in all subject areas (within the constraints of federal and state law).
