Joint Meetings

The following joint meetings were held (see notes, as applicable, in the corresponding sections)

  • HEVC issues with Requirements, JCT-VC, JCT-3V, VCEG Tue 16–18 (Requirements room)

  • Green MPEG with Requirements and Systems Wed. 11-12 (Requirements room)
Proposals are usually kind of SEI messages, e.g. helping in adjusting the display brightness. It is discussed that the most desirable method of implementing it as standard would be a common framework for all, e.g. by defining in CICP.

  • MPEG-7 Quality descriptors with Test, and Systems Thu 1130–1200 Video room (see section 7)

  • CDVS Requirements Thu 9-10 Requirements room (see section 8.1)

  • CICP Systems, Video, Audio Thu 11–1130 Video room (see section 6)

  • HEVC issues with Requirements, JCT-VC, JCT-3V, and VCEG Thu 12-13 Requirements room (see section 12)

  • Assets Wed 1600-1700 (3G room, see 3G report)
    1. Output Documents planned

A provisional list of output documents was set up in the opening plenary and further updated during the Wednesday plenary. See list of final output docs in sec. 14.1.
  1. MPEG-4 part 2Visual

Following the Defect report from the previous meeting, a DCOR N13322 had been issued in Geneva for correction of a rounding operation in interlaced motion compensation, where the current text and software/conformance deviate from each other. No changes were necessary, and the COR was issued as N13742.
  1. MPEG-4 part 10 AVC

A DCOR N13325 had been issued in Geneva for correction of the sub-bitstream extraction process in AVC. The corresponding COR was now issued as N13751, where one more change related to the same item was made upon NB request.

The amendment on additional color gamut and tone mapping descriptors is ongoing (FDAM4 or AMD4 depending on DAM ballot outcome in October), no need for a Study document was identified.

  1. AVC stereo and 3D extensions

The work on the following stereo/3D video related amendments of AVC is ongoing as coordinated action with JCT-3V:

  • 3D AVC (currently under DAM3 ballot)

  • Multi-resolution Frame Compatible (MFC, currently under DAM5 ballot)

Related software and conformance amendments are also under preparation. The following output documents were produced from the Vienna meeting:

  • N13752 Study Text of ISO/IEC 14496-10:2012/DAM3 AVC compatible video-plus-depth extension

  • N13753 3D-AVC Test Model 7

  • N13789 3D Video Subjective Quality Assessment Test Plan

  • N13754 Test Model 2 for Multi-resolution Frame Compatible Stereo Coding

  • N13743 Study Text of ISO/IEC 14496-4:2004/DAM41 Conformance testing of the MVC plus depth extension of AVC

  • N13744 Request for ISO/IEC 14496-4:2004/Amd.42

  • N13745 Text of ISO/IEC 14496-4:2004/PDAM42 Conformance testing of the Multi-resolution Frame Compatible Stereo Coding extension of AVC

  • N13746 Working Draft 2 for 3D-AVC Conformance

  • N13747 Study Text of ISO/IEC 14496-5:2001/PDAM33 Reference Software for the MVC plus depth extension of AVC

  • N13748 Request for ISO/IEC 14496-5:2001/Amd.34

  • N13749 Text of ISO/IEC 14496-5:2001/PDAM34 Reference Software for the Multi-resolution Frame Compatible Stereo Coding extension of AVC
  1. Web Video Coding

ISO/IEC DIS 14496-19 (N13561) had been issued in Incheon. Even though according resolutions had been formulated by the same time, patent statements received so far seem to represent only a small subset of the statements that were originally submitted for 14496-10. Further, previously mentioned problems regarding the ISO database are not resolved yet. Therefore, resolutions (and related output documents N13755, N13756) were again issued to help settle the issues, particularly urging for action on submitting IPR statements before the closing of the DIS ballot.
  1. Coding independent code points

A few flaws related to video syntax in CICP had been detected after approval. During the Incheon meeting, a defect report N13594 was produced as first step to resolve these issues in an upcoming corrigendum, and a WD N13595 for an amendment text concerning aspect ratio descriptors (that are currently missing in the CICP spec) was approved. However, there was another Systems output document issued in Incheon (CICP TuC W13489) that touched video issues. To take corrective action, a joint meeting was held between the Video and Systems subgroups, where merging of the documents was agreed, with video experts to assist the Systems SG.
  1. MPEG-7 Visual

See above AHG report m30567. Since the previous meeting, work was performed by the AHG in further updating the XM software, making it usable with newer compilers and libraries.

15.0.0.1.1.1.1.1.24m30517 MPEG-7 eXperimentation Model Update and Testing [Karol Wnukowicz, Stavros Paschalakis]

  • Was presented during Wednesday plenary

  • Significant progress was made again, but there is some difficulty in re-implementing some tools (an example for this is the camera motion descriptor) for which a fully operational feature extraction never existed and where no support by original contributors is avialable any more.

  • One option was discussed whether it would be appropriate to remove tools which do not have full support in the software from the standard? This option needs further investigation.

The following document was discussed in ajoint meeting with the Systems SG:

15.0.0.1.1.1.1.1.25m29793 Proposal for MPEG-7 Extensions for Visual Quality Metadata [Werner Bailer, Peter Schallauer, Borgotallo Roberto]

Request definition of a visual quality description scheme (which would need to be hosted in MDS).

However, semantics assignment is missing or not precise.

Includes visual quality, defects (like noise, scratches), eventually transmission loss parameters.

Intent to define concrete quality descriptors in visual?

Consider to issue a public Call?

Liaison with EBU was sent last meeting; other liaison activity ongoing.
