Ann Holt, of Greenwood, upon her retirement from Maine School Administrative District #44. Ms. Holt worked with the District for 35 years, serving as Director of Special Services for 17 years. Additionally, she was named Maine's Special Education Director of the Year. Kalee Page, of Kenduskeag, a student at Central Middle School in Corinth, who has been named the winner of a United States National Award in mathematics by the United States Achievement Academy. We send our congratulations to her on this achievement; (HLS 1183)

the Honorable Edward Ainsworth, of Yarmouth, former member of the Maine House of Representatives from 1983 to 1984. He was dedicated to his community, his country and his church. A veteran of the United States Army, he was a resident of Yarmouth for 55 years and was a member of the American Legion Post and Casco Lodge of Masons for more than 50 years, as well as a member of the Yarmouth Fire Department. He was a dedicated employee at Guy Gannett Newspapers for 40 years and was a respected member of numerous professional organizations, and served terms as President of the Greater Portland Labor Council and Vice-president of Maine AFL-CIO. He organized the annual Memorial Day parade in Yarmouth from 1972 to 2004 and he was the 1993 recipient of the Latchstring Award in Yarmouth, which honored his community service. Mr. Ainsworth was the Welterweight Boxing Champion of Maine in 1939 and he was an accomplished baseball pitcher. He was inducted in 1985 into the Maine Baseball Hall of Fame for his extensive contributions as player, coach and umpire over the years. Mr. Ainsworth served the Episcopal church as a chalice bearer, treasurer, lay reader and Member of the Vestry. Emma James, of Avon, who is a recipient of the American Legion School Award Medal. The award represents the educational symbolism of the School Award Medal program and is associated with the American Legion and its purposes. The award is given to a graduating student based on courage, honor, leadership, patriotism, scholarship and service. Emma is also a recipient of the Secretary of State's 2005 8th Grade Citizenship Award. We extend our congratulations to Emma on her receiving these awards; (HLS 1186)

Ethan Eisenhaur, of Madrid, who is a recipient of the American Legion School Award Medal. The award represents the educational symbolism of the School Award Medal program and is associated with the American Legion and its purposes. Agnes H. Falt, of Woolwich, at the age of 104. Mrs. Falt was a longtime resident of Northeast Harbor, where she and her husband Gordon ran Hillcrest Market until they retired in 1955. In 1960, they bought Holmes Store, a clothing business, which they ran for 10 years. Mr. Falt died in 1981. She moved to Woolwich 10 years ago to be with her son Gordon. She is survived by 3 grandsons, 5 great-grandchildren, many nieces and nephews and her sister Clare, who is 100 years of age. Kingsley Strout, of Gorham, a resident of Gorham House, who is the recipient of the Remember Me Award from the Maine Hospital Association. Mr. Strout is a retired Methodist pastor and served in many churches in Maine over the years. He has been a devoted husband to his loving wife of 62 years, Margaret, and a loving father to his children Larry and Kathy. Mr. Strout continues to give support and friendship to his friends and family. We extend our congratulations to him on his receiving this award and we send him our best wishes; (HLS 1189)

Rance Knowles, of Manchester, beloved husband, father and grandfather. Mr. Knowles served for 3 years in the United States Army. He worked in many capacities for the Town of Manchester. He was fire chief, selectman, chair of the Board of Selectmen and code enforcement officer. He was a lifetime member of the Maine State Federation of the Firefighters and a member of the Maine Fire Chiefs Association, the State of Maine Board of Underground Tank Installers, Manchester Lions Club, Post 202 of the AMVETS, Post 2 American Legion and a cofounder of the Manchester Festival. James Alfred Louder, of Corinna, on the occasion of his retirement after 37 years as a teacher. Mr. Louder taught at the Vickery School and the Warsaw Middle School, both in Pittsfield. the Robert W. Traip Academy, in Kittery, on the occasion of its 100th Anniversary. The school was founded in 1905 and its construction was funded from the estate of the late Robert W. Traip, who died in 1864. Mr. Traip was a direct descendent of one of Kittery's original settlers dating back to the 1600s. After the death of his last heir in 1897, an endowment was established to start an academy. The school grew in size, especially during World War II, when the town grew due to work at the Navy Yard. The academy property was sold to the Town of Kittery in 1967. Major renovations and construction began in 1989. We acknowledge the long and distinguished history of the school and its contributions to education in the State of Maine. Androscoggin County Head Start and Child Care on the occasion of its 40th anniversary. Robert J. "Bob" Williams, of Manchester, a man loved, respected and admired by his family, friends and coworkers, yet a name unknown by thousands who have benefited from his work. Mr. Williams never sought the limelight and never performed his duties for the glory or recognition. His vocation was his avocation. He was a quiet man, mostly content to silently go about his duties. He was the Federal Air Coordinator for the Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife and led the department's acquisition of conservation lands and boat access sites throughout the State for more than 17 years. His dedication to protecting the public's rights and interests in those special waters and places never rested or wavered. He was tireless in his efforts to assist in the purchase of thousands of acres of land for permanent wildlife conservation. He loved his work and serving Maine's people and leaves a legacy of protection and access to our woods and waters for generations to enjoy. Tom Reynolds, of Farmington, for his many years of dedication to the University of Maine at Farmington and to its Ski Industries Certificate Program, one of the first and only programs of its kind in the nation, which celebrates its 25th anniversary this year. The program combines a bachelor's degree with one of 3 certificate concentrations: Ski Business Management, Professional Ski Coaching and Ski Teaching and Adaptive Ski Teaching. Mr. Reynolds is the founder and was the director of this program before his retirement from the university 6 years ago. He has been a tireless advocate for the ski industry in Maine, for the University of Maine at Farmington and for the professional development of young people. Betty Robinson, of Auburn, associate professor of leadership and organizational studies at the University of Southern Maine/Lewiston-Auburn, who has been awarded the Donald Harward Faculty Award for Service-Learning Excellence. This award is presented through the Maine Campus Compact to faculty members who have demonstrated a significant commitment to practicing and promoting service-learning. Professor Robinson was cited for her work to increase opportunities for active student learning through the interweaving of classroom learning with hands-on service experience in order for students to gain a sense of their own efficacy in the world. Megan Beals, of Houlton, who was chosen as Miss Maine 2005 at the 69th Miss Maine Scholarship Pageant. She competed in the categories of talent, interview, evening gown and swimsuit. The talent category of her competition featured a classical jazz vocal performance and her service platform is Mentoring to Empower Tomorrow's Leaders. Ms. Beals also received the Miss Maine Pageant 2005 Talent Award. She will go on to compete for the title of Miss America. The Miss America Organization is one of the world's largest providers of scholarship assistance for young women, and helps them to achieve personal and professional goals while providing a forum in which to demonstrate their talents. Ms. Beals is the daughter of Terry and Debbie Beals and plans to attend the University of Maine at Presque Isle. Margaret Merrill, of Dayton, who has been selected as an Albert Einstein Fellow for 2005-2006. Mrs. Merrill teaches the 3rd and 4th grades at the Plummer-Motz Elementary School in Falmouth, where she weaves science education extensively into the daily curriculum. As one of only 14 educators chosen to participate in the Albert Einstein Fellowship Program, she will be assigned to a United States Senator's office in Washington, D.C. for 10 months to help shape education policy and provide policy makers with practical insights and "real world" perspectives. We extend our appreciation to Mrs. Merrill for her commitment to education and send her best wishes for her important work in our nation's capital; (HLS 1207)

Dwight L. Rideout, of Holden, Senior Associate Dean of Students at the University of Maine, for his 40 years of dedicated and honorable service to the University of Maine as alumnus, administrator and professor. Dean Rideout has served on innumerable university, statewide and regional committees related to student affairs and associated issues and is a frequent conference presenter on subjects such as goal setting, time management, outdoor recreation and student consumerism. He has contributed to many areas of student life at the university, including diversity, religious affairs, campus planning, crisis management, career counseling, traffic and safety and student housing. Dean Rideout has been the recipient of many distinguished honors, including the Black Bear Award for Outstanding Service from the University of Maine Alumni Association. He served as the President of the Professional Employees' Advisory Committee. He has also been a source of leadership and support for many students through difficult times, from the Vietnam War to September 11, 2001. His passion for high-quality student support services has benefited the university over the years. The quality of his work is greatly appreciated and will not be forgotten. the Town of Baldwin and the Brown Memorial Library, in honor of the grand opening of the new wing that contains the William C. Pierce Community Room and the Flint Historical Room. The late Mr. Pierce was a descendant of one of the founding citizens of Baldwin and was a benefactor and contributor to the library and to the community. The award honors outstanding Maine youths under the age of 20 for special achievements and community involvement. David LaGraffe, of South Portland, on the occasion of his retirement from teaching after 24 years with the Portland School System. Mr. LaGraffe has taught for 17 years at Hall School in the Many Rivers Program and 7 years in the Gifted and Talented Program (Project Exploration). With degrees in English, philosophy and education, he has taught from pre-school to the college level. He helped design and implement the Portland-Falmouth Teacher's Academy. He is a talented professional actor with extensive stage and some television experience and he leads teacher workshops in the performing arts. Longfellow Elementary School in Portland, which is the recipient of the 2005 Maine Creative Ticket School of Excellence Award from the Maine Alliance for Arts Education and the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C. In addition, the school recently had 2 Odyssey of the Mind teams qualify for world competition. The level of excellence at this school is attributed to the continued commitment from parents, educators and the school community. Sergeant Ricky McKenzie, of Newport, who has returned home after 15 months of active duty with the 133rd Engineer Combat Battalion, Company C stationed in Iraq. While in Iraq, the 133rd Company C built schools and municipal buildings and constructed new roads. We have been blessed with generations of men and women like Sergeant McKenzie who have stepped forward to fight for the security of this nation so that we might continue to enjoy liberty and freedom. Edgar E. Carr, Sr., of Millinocket, a longtime employee of Bangor & Aroostook Railroad. Mr. Carr worked for Maine Forestry Service during World War II and later worked as a railroad engineer. He retired in 1974 after 48 years with the railroad. He was a 75-year member of Nollesemic Lodge No. 205 AF & AM, a member of the Scottish Rite for more than 50 years and a member of Anah Temple Shrine. Maine Public Broadcasting Network, with offices in Bangor, Lewiston and Portland, on being named Radio Station of the Year for the second consecutive year by the Maine Associated Press Broadcasters. This recognition is determined by an independent panel of journalists from outside the state and it exemplifies the commitment and dedication of the network to provide a unique and valued public service to the citizens of Maine. Gail C. Bentz, of Lewiston, who was very involved in community and veterans' affairs and in doing volunteer work for charities. She was a member of the Lewiston Lodge of Elks, where she held several elected positions, and was also a member of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary Post 9150, which she founded and for which she served as charter president for the first 2 years. Mrs. Bentz was also a member of American Legion Post 158 Ladies Auxiliary as well as the Franco American Veterans' Ladies Auxiliary. She was an advocate for Maine's Ombudsman Program for several years. We acknowledge her dedicated service to her community. Sergeant Annie Fitzpatrick, of Winterport, for her military service in Iraq. Sergeant Fitzpatrick served with the 323rd Army Reserve Maintenance Division and has now arrived home after her deployment in Iraq. The 323rd Maintenance Division is a mobile team supporting convoys in Iraq, in the area of Tikrit, in addition to uparmoring new vehicles for other units. We are blessed with generations of men and women like Sergeant Fitzpatrick who have stepped forward to fight for the security of this nation so that we might continue to enjoy liberty and freedom. the Robert Irving Family, of Caribou, on its being named the 2005 Farm Family of the Year. The Irving family began its farming venture in the late 1800s. More recently, Robert and his brother, Richard, farmed potatoes, raised dairy cattle and raised and trained standardbred racehorses at their father's farm in Washburn. Robert and his father, Kenneth, worked the land the family referred to as the "home farm" until 1986. Along with his 3 sons, Scott, Steve and Jeff, Robert now farms about 1,400 acres in the Washburn-Caribou area, including 700 acres of potatoes and 500 acres of barley. In 1998 Irving Farms was named Conservation Farm of the Year by the Central Aroostook Soil and Water Conservation District. Robert has been an active participant in the farming industry, including serving on the National Potato Board, with 3 years on its executive committee.
