This question aims to further assess respondents understanding of their choice of yes to question ‘11’ to see if they really know how that knowledge can be applied pragmatically rather than merely having ahead knowledge of it. The striking observation on table 12 is that, while 85 people answered yes, meaning they have heard about the globally chanted Rs chorus of sustainable waste management, disappointingly only 51 of them could actually state how that knowledge can be applied to the benefit of the environment in their households. This means that as high as 60% of those who answered yes to the Rs do not know how to translate that knowledge to environmental benefits. Again, this shows that there had been either lack of or an

44 abysmally low environmental education in the study area, and possibly across the city of Lagos no matter how much claim the present government makes to the contrary. This knowledge gap must be urgently addressed if the managers of this fast-growing mega-city are to meetup with the growing global pressure for cities to transit to sustainable waste management strategies.
