The theory underpinning this study will be applied in this discussion. It has been observed that certain people can be influenced to act in a particular manner due to peer group pressure or by the acts of a majority. Ajzen’s variable of subjective norm postulates that the influence of social pressure can make an individual to exhibit a certain behaviour. Table 13 shows clearly that a substantial number of the respondents across the 6 LCDAs (87.5%) confessed that they would gladly practice the behaviour of source separation if they see people in their neighbourhood carry it out. This is no doubt a form of social influence, which can be employed as a strong tool by the stakeholders in the environment. A few socially influential people in an area can be given some

45 incentives that will make them practice source separation such that others are attracted to do same because they now see it as something they should also be associated with. In each of the LCDAs, the number of respondents that answered yes to the above question far outweigh those who said nob
