Note: <888> 10/26/04  Tuesday 5:15 A.M.:  I finished going through my email.  CIO

Note: <888> 10/26/04  Tuesday 4:50 A.M.:  My Hyundai $120 debit card is not good until I receive the PIN number sometime in a day or two, but I guess I could use it as a VISA card, if I wanted to buy any items off the internet.  However, since it is the end of the month, and I am low on funds, I will wait until I get the PIN number to use it to withdraw the cash from any PLUS ATM Visa - Global Gateway - Credit Cards and Other Payment Solutions , which includes the NYCE ATM machine at Putnam Trust Bank of New York on Mason Street.  CIO

Note: <888> 10/26/04  Tuesday 4:25 A.M.:  I went outside, and I put the maintenance records in the Volvo.  Thus the Volvo since it was new has had $4,600.83 of maintenance done.  However, other work was done on the car under warranty which was not charged, and new tires were put on the car once which have a little over a quarter of an inch of tread left.  I would imagine oil changes were done under the new car warranty too.  I do not know if the exhaust system was ever replaced or not.  However, I feel it is a most excellent car for my needs.  CIO

Note: <888> 10/26/04  Tuesday 3:55 A.M.:  I sorted through the service records on the Volvo, and I organized them by date and mileage.  I then printed out a log the service records with the date, mileage, what maintenance was done, and costs.  It seems to me the Volvo is completely maintained and up to date in its maintenance.  The Volvo service record is available at www.geocities.com/mikelscott/volvo01.htm .  I put the service record and the print out of the service log in a clear Staples clamp binder, and I will now go outside now and put it behind the driver's side seat in the map pouch on the back side of the seat facing the driver's side rear seat.  CIO

Note: <888> 10/26/04  Tuesday 1:15 A.M.:  I rested a bit.  I was up at 1 A.M..  I ate a three pieces of black licorice twists.  I will now do some regular computer work.  CIO

Note: <888> 10/25/04  Monday 9:40 P.M.:  I will now shut down the computer, and I will go to bed soon.  CIO

Note: <888> 10/25/04  Monday 9:35 P.M.:  I chatted with a relative.  CIO

Note: <888> 10/25/04  Monday 9:25 P.M.:  Yahoo! News - Scientists: Volcano Monitoring Funds Low .  I shut down the computer for and hour and a half, and it rebooted and went online with the Siemens router without any problems.  While the computer was off, I drank a glass of orange juice with vitamins and supplements.  I made and ate my usual salad www.geocities.com/mikelscott/salad.htm .  Instead of tuna fish, I used a tin of sardines that I chopped.  For the cheddar cheese portion, I used Kraft www.kraft.com Monterey Jack cheese.  I used all of the other regular ingredients.  I ate the salad with a glass of iced tea with a small bit of orange juice in it.  CIO

Note: <888> 10/25/04  Monday 7:55 P.M.:  I went outside briefly.  I now have the Siemens router working properly.  I printed out the Siemens router manual.  In my TCP/IP settings for the onboard RealTek LAN, I manually entered the Siemens IP address and other information, and I rebooted.  The computer would not go online, so I logged onto the Siemens setup web page, and I entered the defaults.  I noticed it said that I was online.  I then changed the TCP/IP settings to automatic, and the computer was able to go online.  I rebooted a couple of times leaving the entire system turned off for a while, and it rebooted properly.  In doing this procedure, I had the D-Link Hub with LAN disabled, so the last time I rebooted, I disconnected it from the computer, so I only have one network item enabled.  Anyway for now the computer seems to be running fine with the Siemens router.  CIO

Note: <888> 10/25/04  Monday 6:30 P.M.:  I searched for routers with print servers, and I found this 7 Port Ethernet Broadband Router with Print Server (DLink-DI707P) - PriceGrabber.com - Comparison Shopping Beyond Compare and D-Link DI-707P 7-Port Broadband Router Plus Print Server , but according to Dlink, it does not work with certain HP printers, and I have three HP printers.  Also I will tinker some more with the Siemens router, before I order a replacement.  CIO

Note: <888> 10/25/04  Monday 5:10 P.M.:  I called Optimum Online tech support, and they reset my cable modem, and it work initially with the hub connected to the system, but when I rebooted it did not work.  I connected the Siemens Speedstream SS2614 router with printer port, and it did not work, and it would not assign an IP address.  They suggested uninstalling XP SP2, but I tried booting one of my backup computers with Windows 98, and it would not work, so it is not XP SP2.  I checked the mail.  I received my Hyundai rebate on the horsepower lawsuit, and they send me a www.myecount.com debit card for $120.  I called Optimum Online again, and they said it was definitely that my Siemens router definitely add a problem, and it was not assigning IP addresses.  I guess I could buy or order a new router with my Hyundai debit card, but I need one with a printer port.  The same model of the Siemens router on the internet is about $70 to $80, and I originally bought it from CompUSA with a $50 mailin rebate, but I think the two year warranty has expired.  Anyway I connected the cable modem directly to the computer onboard LAN.  One can select the Run command and enter "CMD" and then enter "ipconfig" and "ipconfig /release" and "ipconfig /renew" to assign the IP addresses, which does not work when the Siemens router is connected.  I guess the obvious answer is that it malfunctioned.  CIO

Note: <888> 10/25/04  Monday 1:15 P.M.:  I was up at 1 P.M..  I checked the mail, but it is not here.  I booted the computer, but it still will not obtain an IP address and go online with the Siemens router connected.  I connected the Motorola cable modem LAN cable directly to the motherboard onboard LAN port, and it works.  Of course the printer network and other backup computers will not go online.  I could try using one of my other Ethernet Hubs, but I still would not have network printing.  CIO

Note: <888> 10/25/04  Monday 6:10 A.M.:  I will now shut down the computer.  I will then go to bed shortly.  CIO

Note: <888> 10/25/04  Monday 5:55 A.M.:  I have the computer running off the Siemens router again.  I went through a number of configurations trying to get it to work.  Basically the Siemens router seems to work all right.  I have it connected into the onboard LAN.  I was able to fix the system by disconnecting the USB to LAN port with three USB ports device.  I disconnected its power and disconnected it from its USB cable and LAN cable, and the computer seems to boot up and work just fine.  I also reconfigured the Siemens router with the defaults.  Thus as far as I can tell the computer is working just fine.  CIO

Note: <888> 10/25/04  Monday 2:50 A.M.:  I reconnected the Siemens router after turning it on and off with no cables connected to it, and it worked when I rebooted.  However, when I was setting it up from its setup page, it quit working again.  I restored it to its factory defaults, and I disconnected it again.  I then disconnected the cable to it, and I pressed the reset button.  I also did a System Restore to before I ran TCP optimizer.  I will now try connecting up the Siemens router again to see if it works now.  CIO

Note: <888> 10/25/04  Monday 12:35 A.M.:  I called Optimum Online tech support at 1-203-348-9211, and they tested my Cable Modem, and they said the Siemens router was not assigning an IP address.  I tried setting the Siemens router to its factory defaults, and it still would not work.  I finally connected the Cable modem directly to the motherboard LAN, and the system went online.  I can not figure out what the problem is with the Siemens router unless the TCP Optimizer program that I ran yesterday morning before shutting down somehow messed up the IP address assigning of the Siemens router.  I will have to work on it.  Anyway the computer is online for now.  CIO

Note: <888> 10/24/04  Sunday 11:15 P.M.:  I was up at 11 A.M. this morning, and I chatted with a friend.  I ate breakfast of oatmeal with a sliced banana, toast with strawberry jam, orange juice, vitamins, supplements, and coffee.  I went back to bed until 4 P.M..  I chatted with a relative.  The relative with her husband is stopping by my apartment around 10 A.M. on this Thursday morning to take up the Queen Anne chair to Kennebunkport, Maine www.geocities.com/mikelscott/137.htm .  I will thus have a little extra space left in the apartment.  I will see if there are any other items they want to take up.  I ate a peanut butter sandwich with a glass of iced tea.  I cleaned up, and I went out.  When I chatted with the relative, I was told all of the service records for my Volvo are in a folder behind the driver's seat.  I went out, and I went through the service records.  All of the service has been done on the Volvo that I can think of.  Its fuel filer was replaced at 75,000 miles, the car had a new timing belt and spark plugs and rear disk brake pads at 92,000 miles, so at 98,750 miles, the car is totally maintained.  I brought up the service records, and I will make up a list of everything that has been done and at what mileage.  Also something called the Lambda which I think has something to do with emissions was replaced at 92,000 miles.  The brake fluid was replaced recently too.  The Volvo was Volvo dealer maintained.  I went downtown, and I walked the entire length of Greenwich Avenue and the train station area, and I sat out at various locations.  During my walk, I stopped by CVS, and I bought four buy one get one free of Campbell's 18.8 ounce cans of Chunky New England clam chowder for $2.49 for two cans for $4.98 total.  After my walk, I used the bathroom at Starbucks.  I then drove by the waterfront.  I next went by the Stop and Shop, and I bought a 10 ounce bag of fresh spinach for $1.50.  I then went by the Food Emporium, and I looked for a bottle of Old English dark furniture polish, but neither store had it.  A neighbor had asked me to look for it.  I then returned home.  I drank some iced tea.  I chatted with a friend.  I chatted with a relative.  I left a message with another relative.  I took down the Saudi Arabian flag from the center hallway bookcase in my apartment, since with the colder weather, I doubt if any Saudis will be visiting, and I think they have enough money for their own place, so they do not need hospitality.  I decided if any people from Florida are still up north, they might be cold, and need some alcoholic liquid refreshment, so I unlocked the padlock and chain from the liquor cabinet on the lower half of the hallway center bookcase.  Although, I do not drink liquor myself, I keep it available for entertaining relatives and friends whom might stop by along with the Danish bar setup.  Presently the internet is not working, so I can not post this message.  I did notice a sign that the English might be around because, I saw a Twinings Tea display at the Food Emporium at the front of the store with English Breakfast tea and Earle Grey tea that said, "With Love from England."  CIO

Note: <888> 10/24/04  Sunday 12:40 A.M.:  I ate a 10 ounce can of CVS lightly salted cashews and three black licorice twists with some iced tea.  I went to www.speedguide.net , and I used the TCP Optimizer download http://www.speedguide.net/downloads.php to optimize my settings including the network settings.  ***Additional note to this note, I do not recommend TCP Optimizer, because after using it my Siemens router quit working, Try at your own risk.***   I will now shut down the computer, and I will go to bed soon.  CIO

Note: <888> 10/23/04  Saturday 11:20 P.M.:  I went through my email.  CIO

Note: <888> 10/23/04  Saturday 10:00 P.M.:  BBC NEWS Health Smokers' genetic arthritis risk .  CIO

Note: <888> 10/23/04  Saturday 9:55 P.M.:  I made up a fresh batch homemade hummus www.geocities.com/mikelscott/hummus.htm .  In it I also used one very large clove of elephant garlic.  I made and ate my usual salad www.geocities.com/mikelscott/salad.htm .  I used a tin of sardines that I chopped instead of tuna fish.  For the cheddar cheese portion, I used Kraft www.kraft.com extra sharp cheddar cheese.  I used all of the other regular ingredients.  I ate the salad with a glass of iced tea.  I threw out the garbage.  I left a message with a relative.  CIO

Note: <888> 10/23/04  Saturday 7:50 P.M.:  I went out after the last message.  I went downtown, and I used the bathroom at the Senior and Arts center.  I walked the entire length of Greenwich Avenue, and I sat out at various locations.  During my walk, I stopped by the Korean fruit and vegetable stand, and I bought five Chiquita bananas for .88.  I toured CVS.  I noticed at the top of Greenwich Avenue, the sidewalk construction crew have left the padlock open on the Portapotty.  This could present a hazard, since if someone were using the Portapotty, someone could lock them inside of it.  After my walk, I used the bathroom at senior and arts center.  I then drove down by the waterfront.  I chatted with a former neighbor.  I then returned to the center of town, and I used the bathroom at Starbucks.  Supposedly as one gets older, one has to go to the bathroom more often.  Also drinking the ice tea makes one go to the bathroom more often.  I next went by the Exxon gasoline station next to the Greenwich Library, and I bought $11.70 of premium unleaded gasoline at $2.539 a gallon for 14 miles per gallon usage.  I then returned home, and I reset the Volvo dashboard computer, which one is suppose to do after one fills up the Volvo.  I chatted with a neighbor.  I drank some iced tea.  I turned the thermostat up before I left to 75 degrees Fahrenheit, and the apartment is currently 72 degrees Fahrenheit.  CIO

Note: <888> 10/23/04  Saturday 3:20 P.M.:  I reheated the vermicelli and tomato sauce from last night, and I put a little grated parmesan cheese on it.  I ate it all with a glass of iced tea.  I will now shut down the computer, and I will clean up, and I will go out.  Local temperature in Greenwich, Connecticut weather.com - Local Travel Page Greenwich, Connecticut USA .  CIO

Note: <888> 10/23/04  Saturday 2:55 P.M.:  I put away the laundry.  CIO

Note: <888> 10/23/04  Saturday 2:15 P.M.:  I went to http://www.smokemcheapcigarettes.com/ , and I ordered three cartons of Seneca Ultra Lights 100s for $11 a carton plus $6 postage for $39 total.  CIO

Note: <888> 10/23/04  Saturday 2:00 P.M.:  I woke up during the night, and I ate 15 Town House crackers with fifteen 3/4 inch by 1.5 inch by 3/32 inch slices of Kraft extra sharp cheddar cheese.  I was up at 9 P.M. this morning.  I ate breakfast of oatmeal with a sliced banana, toast with strawberry jam, orange juice, vitamins, supplements, and coffee.  I went outside, and I checked the mail.  The AT&T 705 telephone occasionally had a problem hanging up, so I moved it from besides the French reproduction chair to beside the Queen Anne chair beneath the Orion television.  I moved the big button Northwest Bell telephone with speaker phone and long headset cord next to the French reproduction chair, and they both seem to be working fine now.  I programmed the memory buttons on the AT&T 705 telephone and I added the Net2Phone access numbers to the memory buttons on the Northwest Bell telephone.  I chatted briefly with a friend.  I picked up the mail.  I have 15 minutes to go on the dry cycle on two loads of laundry.  I put clean linens on the bed in the bedroom.  I turned the heat up in the living room to 74 degrees Fahrenheit, so the living room will be 70 to 72 degrees Fahrenheit.  I also have the Lasko box fan on the living room window shelf blowing the heat on low speed into the apartment instead of letting it flow into the false ceiling which creates a minor draft but is more energy efficient.  I chatted with a relative.  CIO

Note: <888> 10/23/04  Saturday 1:00 A.M.:  I ate three pieces of black licorice twists.  I will now shut down the computer, and I will go to bed soon.  CIO

End of Scott's Notes week of 10/22/04:

Note: <888> 10/22/04  Friday 11:55 P.M.:  I did some regular internet work.  I will now send out my weekly notes.  CIO

Note: <888> 10/22/04  Friday 11:05 P.M.:  I went outside briefly.  The latest Braun www.braun.com model coffee maker is this one braun kf600 Coffee Makers - Find, Compare and Buy at BizRate with this product description Braun - Impressions Design Collection Coffee Maker in Stainless Steel .  I put a gallon of water in a six quart Revere pot, and I added a half teaspoon of salt and a teaspoon of olive oil, and I brought it to a boil with the lid on.  I then boiled for six minutes with the lid off a 16 ounce package of Stop and Shop vermicelli, which I drained in a colander, and I put half on a dinner plate with tongs, and I put the other half in a Rubbermaid container in the refrigerator.  I also used the reheat button the General Electric microwave oven to heat half of a 26 ounce jar or 13 ounces of Ragu six cheese tomato sauce, and I put the remaining half in the jar in the refrigerator.  I added the tomato sauce to the noodles, and I added a thin layer of grated parmesan cheese, and I ate it all with a glass of iced tea.  CIO

Note: <888> 10/22/04  Friday 9:35 P.M.:  I went out after the last message.  I went by the Greenwich Hospital Thrift Shop, and I bought a AT&T www.att.com #705 twelve memory button white telephone for $3.  I then went downtown, and I walked the entire length of Greenwich Avenue in a different pattern.  I used the bathroom at the Senior and Arts center.  I then walked lower Greenwich Avenue, and then I walked up Greenwich Avenue.  I stopped by the Greenwich Hardware store, and I view the 70% off rack.  I then used the ATM machine at the Greenwich Avenue branch of Putnam Trust Bank of New York.  I then returned to the Greenwich Hardware store and from the 70% off rack, I bought a former display item black Braun http://www.braun.com/  Aroma Deluxe time control #KF 580 B coffee maker with gold filter and Brita water filter braun kf580 Coffee Makers - Find, Compare and Buy at BizRate and Braun AromaDeluxe Time Control 10 Cup Coffeemaker KF 580 and Braun, KF580B, Braun KF580-B AromaDeluxe 10 Cup Coffee Maker, Black - NowOnSale.com regularly $132.99 at the Greenwich Hardware store for $32.90 plus $1.97 tax for $34.87 total.  I then walked down Greenwich Avenue, and I put the Braun coffee maker in my Volvo.  I then used the bathroom at the Senior and Arts center.  I sat out for a while.  I then walked up Greenwich Avenue, and I toured CVS.  I then completed my walked up Greenwich Avenue, and I sat out briefly at the top of Greenwich Avenue, and I returned down Greenwich Avenue to my car, and I sat out briefly.  I then drove down by the waterfront and some of the regular fishermen were there.  They never seem happy to see me, although I go down there most every day.  I then went by the Greenwich Library, and I read the Greenwich Time.  I chatted with one of regular library users like I always do with some of the regular library users.  I then returned home.  I  took the Krups coffee maker and espresso machine off the left side of the kitchen entrance bookcase, and I put it on the lower left part of my bedroom closet.  I moved my dress shoes from the bedroom closet to both living room closets.  I also took the Royal coffee maker from my left back kitchen counter, and I also put it on the lower left side of the bedroom closet.  I put the new Braun KF 580 B coffee maker on the left top of the kitchen entrance bookcase.  I installed the Brita water filter in it, and I put the water filter space filler next to the machine to have handy if I ever do not use the water filter.  The water filter is suppose last two months with regular use, so it will last me longer, since I normally do not brew a full pot of coffee.  I set the time on the Braun coffee maker, and I set it to turn off automatically after an hour.  I left the gold filter in the basket.  I put beneath it a new box of 100 count of #4 Melita brown coffee filters and a open box of the same with a few left in it.  One has to run a cycle of water through it to clean the machine and filter, which I will do later.  I put the ATT 705 telephone by the French reproduction sitting chair, and I will program its memory buttons at a future time.  I used a telephone line two way splitter, and I added to the connector cord beneath the maple side table, the General Electric big button phone, which I placed on the mahogany side table at the apartment entrance.  I drank some iced tea.  CIO

Note: <888> 10/22/04  Friday 2:40 P.M.:  I woke up during the night, and I ate the remaining four ounces of lightly salted cashews.  I was up at 10 A.M. this morning.  I ate breakfast of oatmeal with a sliced banana, toast with strawberry jam, orange juice, vitamins, supplements, and coffee.  I went outside, and I picked up my mail.  I chatted with an associate.  I did my house cleaning and watering the plants.  I threw out the garbage.  I will now eat a peanut butter sandwich with a glass of iced tea.  I will then clean up, and I will go out.  I noticed when I went to the Splash car wash across the street on West Putnam Avenue next to the Mobil gasoline station a couple days ago before waxing my car, that I paid $7.50 for the Express car wash, but there is a sign in front that from 6 P.M. to 8 P.M., the Express car wash is $5 which includes a free vacuum.  Thus I guess, since it costs $5 for the Express car wash in Old Greenwich at the Mobil Express car wash all the time, but since it costs money to drive over there, I will probably be getting my Volvo washed nearby after 6 P.M. at night as long as it continues to be $5.  It obviously costs money to drive all the way over to Old Greenwich.  Of course on some nice days, I do go out to Tod's Point in Old Greenwich to enjoy the view of Long Island sound, and the occasional walk around the point, which is quite enjoyable during the fall, when it is not too windy.  CIO

Note: <888> 10/21/04  Thursday 11:25 P.M.:  I will now shut down the computer, and I will go to bed soon.  CIO

Note: <888> 10/21/04  Thursday 11:00 P.M.:  The Optimum Online mail server is not working, so I can not check my email.  I ate about 6 ounces of a 10 ounce can of lightly salted cashews with some iced tea.  CIO

Note: <888> 10/21/04  Thursday 10:05 P.M.:  I chatted with a relative.  I left a message with an associate.  I ate three black licorice twists.  CIO

Note: <888> 10/21/04  Thursday 8:50 P.M.:  I woke up last night, and I ate a few black licorice twists.  I was up at 8 A.M. this morning.  I ate breakfast of oatmeal with a sliced banana, toast with strawberry jam, orange juice, vitamins, supplements, and coffee.  I watched the first half of the original Tarzan movie, and then I fell back to sleep until 1 A.M..  I ate a few licorice twists.  I cleaned up, and I went out.  I went by Putnam Trust Bank of New York on Mason Street.  I went by the Greenwich Hospital Thrift Shop.  I made my 3 P.M. appointment.  I went downtown, and I walked the entire length of Greenwich Avenue, and I sat out at various locations.  I stopped by CVS, and I bought a 10 ounce can of CVS lightly salted cashews for $2.99.  After my walk, I used the bathroom at the senior and the arts center.  I drove down by the waterfront.  I  then went by the Greenwich Library, and I read the Greenwich Time.  I next returned home.  I received from via Fedex from www.shoplet.com the Plantronics M10 AC adaptor.  I took the batteries out of the Plantronics M10 transformer, since I think having them in might keep it from working on AC power, and then I plugged the AC adaptor into the power strip to the left of my primary computer control panel, and I plugged it into the Plantronics M10 transformer, so it has a steady power supply all the time when turned on.  I made and ate my usual salad www.geocities.com/mikelscott/salad.htm .  I use a tin of sardines that I chopped instead of tuna fish.  For the cheddar cheese portion, I used Kraft extra sharp cheddar cheese.  I used all of the other regular ingredients.  I ate the salad with a glass of iced tea.  CIO
