AB - ABSTRACT: A structural model for the Sabana de Bogota area was obtained from interpreting Landsat images, vertical electrical soundings, well lithological logs and existing geological maps. NE longitudinal faults are related to thrust and backthrust, they may also be reversed faults with lateral displacements as a result of transpressional tectonics. For some of them, some continuity under the unconsolidated cover is inferred. NW transverse faults can be interpreted as lateral thrust ramps or sinistral strike slip structures. This fault interaction shaped a paleotopography where blocks, including Cretaceous and Paleogene units, were indistinctly covered by Neogene-Quaternary deposits. This proposal allows some understanding on the hydrogeological system for the Sabana de Bogota area, disproving the idea of lateral continuity of Paleogene units. Some of these faults suggest neotectonic activity.

AB - ABSTRACT: Three thermal anomalies have been recognized in the Cameros Basin using chlorite geothermometry. An aureole of about 150 Km (super 2) , located in the central part of the basin, and another of about 10 Km (super 2) to the NW of the same one, have registered maximum temperatures of 370 degrees C and 310 degrees C, respectively. These aureoles are related with a hydrothermal event that should take place after the basin filling (Upper Cretaceous) and which is responsible for the inversion thermal structure identified in this sector. The third thermal anomaly is located in the Pegado anticlinal structure, where the temperatures are about 270 degrees C, and which has been related with an tectonothermal event that took place during the Tertiary basin inversion.

AB - ABSTRACT: Chlorites in metamorphic rocks of the Silgara Formation that crop out in the southwestern region of the Santander Massif (Chicamocha Canyon) register formation temperatures between 180 and 355 degrees C. The maximum temperatures of formation of this hydrated mineral phase (up to 355 degrees C) correspond to the higher-grade metamorphic zone (staurolite-distene), while in the biotite and garnet (upper part) zones, these temperatures vary in average between 180 and 270 degrees C. These values of temperature suggest a rehydration of the greater depth rocks rather than those from higher structural levels of the metamorphic pile. This process appears to be explained in an extensive deformation context, which has generated a major amount of anisotropy planes in depth, by which hydrothermal fluids circulated. Also, the generation of these channels should be related to the incompetent behavior of these lithologies in a great part of the exhumation history of the this Formation.

AB - ABSTRACT: The Caribbean basin has been poorly explored and poses a wide array of geological questions, due to its uncertain stratigraphic relations, its structural frame and the nature of its basement related to the islands. By interpreting 1700 km seismic lines, from the Ecopetrol Caribbean surveys, Cayos 77 and Cayos 82, and by tightening two wells, Miskito 1 and Miskito 2, in the area of cays (lower Nicaragua rise), north of the Colombia Basin, we determined the stratigraphic position of the basement B" and found out two trends NE-SW and NW-SE for the Quitasueno and Serrana Cays, in a horst and graben style. In addition to that, the facies for the basement are for the most part igneous and from an exploration point of view, it gives the opportunity for a good seal.

AB - ABSTRACT: Ioannidis, et al., published a statistical methodology for analyzing of porous microstructure to estimate permeability in the Journal of Petroleum Science & Engineering. The method is based on the calculation of the autocorrelation function from binary images of porous space. This paper presents a systematic application of the methodology applied to twenty-three sandstone samples from a Colombian oil bearing formation. Images of porosity were acquired under different detection conditions in order to carry out a comparative evaluation of the results at different resolutions. It was found that the adjustment parameters for the autocorrelation function, as well as its derivative and integral, dependent strongly upon the conditions of image detection. Under conditions of maximum resolution, permeability was estimated within the same order of magnitude of the value measured experimentally, with an accuracy that varies from 1.6% to 24%.

AB - ABSTRACT: For the determination of the palaeocurrent directions in the Provinica Field, were took 2664 measurements of the dipmeter logs were taken to make to the statistical analyses of the Formations that are between Umir and the Real Group (Maastrichtian and Miocene age). The palaeocurrent directions are defined based on statistics analyses, as the average (in azimuth) and its consistency ratio (CR). The paleocurrent directions are principally to the northeast for the Umir and the Lower Real Formations; to the east for the Lisama, Esmeraldas, Mugrosa, Colorado and Middle Real Formations, and in the southeast for the Upper Real Formation. In general, there were observed important changes in the palaeocurrent directions between the Umir-Lisama Lisama-Emeralds, Colorado-Real and between the medium and the upper part of the Real Group. These changes in the paleocurrent directions suggest to be associated to tectonic events that involved this area.

AB - ABSTRACT: A generalized material balance equation was presented at the Escuela de Petroleos de la Universidad industrial de Santander for coal seam gas reservoirs based on Walsh's method, who worked in an analogous approach for oil and gas conventional reservoirs (Walsh, 1995). Our equation was based on twelve similar assumptions itemized by Walsh for his generalized expression for conventional reservoirs, it was started from the same volume balance consideration and was finally reorganized like Walsh (1994) did. Because it is not expressed in terms of traditional (P/Z) plots, as proposed by King (1990), it allows to perform a lot of quantitative and qualitative analyses. It was also demonstrated that the existent equations are only particular cases of the generalized expression evaluated under certain restrictions. This equations is applicable to coal seam gas reservoirs in saturated, equilibrium and undersaturated conditions, and to any type of coalbeds without restriction on especial values of the constant diffusion.

AB - ABSTRACT: In this paper four indices of contamination, which qualify different water aspects are presented. Such indices allow for an overall assessment of the environmental status of the water bodies. These indices have been derived from accumulative experiences in hydrobiological monitoring in the colombian Petroleum industry for six years. Multivariable statistics was used. The indices were developed based on legislation from several countries, in accordance with the concentration of the different parameters and water usages. This indices of contamination (ICO) are: ICOMI (organics contamination), ICOSUS (suspended solids) and ICOTRO (trophia system). The indices are easy to estimate (mathematically and/or graphically) and allow the identification the type of environmental problem, existing as demonstrated with examples and the near to zero correlations found. Thanks to the minimun number of variables, the application of these indices also disminishes monitoring and evaluation costs. In view of the advantages above mentioned it is worth considering integrating the indices in to the national legislation.
