(a) Deacon.

On the motion of Deacon John M Robb seconded by Ex-Deacon Davidson Boxmaster David S May was unanimously elected Deacon for the ensuing year.

The presentation of an Ex-Deacons Badge to Mr Robb was made by the new Deacon.

The new Deacon expressed his thanks to the Members of the Craft for the honour they had paid him in appointing him Deacon and assured he Members hat it would be his endeavour to sere the Craft to the best of his ability. He also paid tribute to the services rendered to the Craft by Ex-Deacon John M Robb.

(b). Boxmaster.

On the motion of the Deacon seconded by Mr Cecil Price, Mr Ralph Pride was unanimously elected Boxmaster for the ensuing year. In accepting office the Boxmaster expressed thanks to the Members of the Craft for the honour they had paid him in appointing him to High Office.

(c) Committee.

It was intimated that Messers Matthew M Waddell. Lovat Grant, Edward J Stevenson and David Reid were due to retire and were not eligible for re-election. The following Members were elected to the Committee and to hold office for two years namely: Messers Walter Smith, David Shepherd, Alan Lemon and Dr George H Smith.

(d) Clerk.

Mr Frank Hay was unanimously re-elected Clerk to the Craft.
IV. Annual Dinner

The Deacon intimated that the Annual Dinner had been changed from 8th November to 27^th November and would be held in Kidd’s Rooms and requested the Members to support this Function.

He Deacon intimated that the Kirking of the Trades would take place in St Andrew’s Church on Sunday first 13^th October 1957 at 11 a.m. and requested the Members to attend in as large numbers as possible.

The Reverend T r S Campbell asked that the various Members of the Trades should assemble in the Meeting Room and join the parade of the Trade into the Church.

This being all the business the Meeting closed with a vote of thanks to the Chairman.

The Deacon gave a welcome to the new Members of Committee and hoped that their term of Office would be a pleasant one.
I. Initiation Supper

A Statement of Receipt and Payments in connection with the Initiation Supper held on 9^th October 1945 which showed a profit of £3. 3. 3d was submitted and approved.

The Deacon reported that he had now completed the Toast List for the Annual Dinner which was as follows:

Vote of thanks to be proposed by the Boxmaster.

Special Menus were submitted by the Deacon and it was decided to accept Menu No 1 with certain modifications. The Deacon undertook to attend to this.

A question regarding a Loud Speaker was also discussed and the Clerk said that he thought that he could arrange for Kidd’s Rooms to supply this.

It was decided that the Musical Trio should be engaged as usual.

The Clerk reported that the Glass Bucket had undertaken the liquid refreshment.

It was also decided that each Member of the Committee would receive Ten Tickets for resale. In the Circular going out to the Members it was decided to initiate that table arrangements could be made on application to the Clerk. It was also decided to ask Mr Jenkins the Town Officer to assist in the announcing of the Guests and seating arrangements.

He Meeting closed with a vote of thanks to the Chairman.

I. Minutes.

The Minute of Meeting of the committee held on 5^th November 11957 was read and approved.

A discussion took place as to the most suitable time to hold the Meetings and it was felt that Thursday Evenings at 5.15 p.m. would suit most Members.
II annual Dinner

The Statement of Receipts and Payments for the Annual Dinner was submitted ant it was considered that this was a satisfactory Statement showing a profit of £11. 1. 6d and the statement was approved.

The Clerk reported that only one Application for Membership had been received but the Deacon and the Boxmaster and Ex-Deacon John M Robb considered that they would have Application and promised to let the Clerk have the Forms at an early date. A Draft of the Toast List for the next Meeting which is to be held in the Queen’s Rooms on Friday 7^th March was then considered. It was decided to have the Toast of “The Nine Incorporated Trades” “The Clergy” and “The New Members” the Deacon undertook to contact Mr Ian Stuart to propose the Toast of “The Nine Incorporated Trades” and to approach Mr Neilson to propose the Toast of “The Clergy”

This being all the business the meeting closed with a vote of hanks to the Chairman.

The Minute of Meeting of the Committee held on 26^th January 1958 was read and approved.

The Deacon intimated that he had arranged for Mr Ian D Stewart to propose the Toast of “The Nine Incorporated Trades” and for Mr Edward J Neilson to propose the Toast of “The Clergy”.

It was left to the Deacon and the Clerk to fix a suitable Menu for the Supper. It was also decided that each Member of Committee should receive ten Tickets for sale.

In connection with Music it was decided to ask Mr Hinchcliffe to give a piano selection and also if possible Mr Crighton to render songs.

It regard to the Circular calling the Making it was suggested that he Toast List should also be appended to the Circular.
III. General

The Boxmaster suggested that when calling the Annual General Meeting it might be advisable to supply to Members an Abstract of the Accounts and the Clerk was instructed to take care of this.

The Minute of Meeting held on 6^th February 1958 was read and approved.

It was decided to hold the Annual General Meeting and Initiation Supper in the Queen’s Hotel on Wednesday 8^th October and the Clerk was instructed to make the necessary arrangements and obtain a Specimen Menu.

After discussion it was decided that the Toasts should be:

“The Nine Incorporated Trades”

“The Imperial Forces”

“The New Members”

The Deacon undertook to approach me Nelson T Carne to propose “The Nine Incorporated Trades” whom failing Mr E H Leslie Shepherd “The Imperial Forces” it was suggested that Mr James B Richardson should be asked to propose the Toast and if he was not available Mr William Low. Mr David Moyes was to be asked to reply to this Toast.
III. Applications from New Members

The Clerk intimated that at this Meeting Mr David Baxter whose application had already been submitted would be made.

The Clerk submitted an Application from Mr Ronald S B Grieve and it was considered that further Applications would be received and it was decided to call a Meeting next week after the Boxmaster had returned from holiday so that any further Applications could be considered.

The Application for Mr David W Baxter which had been passed by the Committee will also be considered at the Making.

The Clerk submitted a Menu from the Queen’s Hotel as this was approved.

Consideration of he Toast List was then given and it was arranged that Mr Alan Lemon would propose the Toast “The Nine Incorporated Trades” and the Clerk was instructed to ask Ex-Deacon Robb to propose the Toast of “The Imperial Forces”. Mr Cecil G Black was asked to propose the Vote of Thanks.

The Committee authorised the Deacon and the Boxmaster to Audit the Clerk’s Accounts and Mr David Shepherd was also authorised to sign the necessary Docquet. The Clerk reported that including this year there was two year’s Salary due to him and the Committee authorised that this should be paid.

It was suggested that when sending out the Circular intimating the Annual General Meeting and The Making that notes regarding the Kirking of the Trades and also the Annual Dinner should be included in the Circular.

In connection with the Benevolent Fund the Committee agreed to make payment from the fund to Mr David R Layburn of £5. 5/-.
