Assignment On Computer Fundamentals

An explanation of how data is represented in computer systems.

  • To this day, computers only understand machine language consisting of the binary digits 1 and 0. These digits represent the use of physical signals such as voltage, current, magnetic field, etc. The computer understands this data based on the user's data representation as 1s compliment, 2s complimented magnitude representation, floating point representation, and so on. in the binary system.

An explanation of how encryption can be used to represent data.

  • Encryption is a method of encrypting data (messages or files) so that only authorized parties can read or access it. Encryption software uses complex algorithms to scramble the data sent. Once received, the data can be decrypted using the key provided by the sender of the message. The efficiency of the encryption technology is determined by the strength of the algorithm, the length of the key, and the suitability of the chosen encryption system. Because encryption makes information unreadable to an unauthorized party, the information remains private and confidential whether transmitted or stored on a system. Unauthorized parties will see nothing but an unorganized set of bytes. In addition, encryption technology can ensure the integrity of data, as some algorithms provide protection against tampering and tampering. The technology's ability to protect information requires encryption and decryption keys to be properly managed by authorized parties.

A description of how images and sounds are represented in computer systems.

  • Sound travels by waves. Since computers represent data in numeric form (as bits and bytes), analog audio must be converted to digital form to be preserved. Likewise, the digital representation of the sound must then be converted to an analog form for our ears to hear. Digital audio is the representation of sound recorded or converted to digital form. In digital audio, the sound waves of an audio signal are usually encoded as digital samples in a continuous sequence. For example, in an audio CD, samples are taken 44,100 times per second, each with a sampling depth of 16 bits. The audio file format is a file format for storing digital audio data on a computer system. The bit arrangement of the audio data (excluding metadata) is known as the audio encoding format and can be decompressed or compressed to reduce file size, often using lossy compression.
  • Computers treat an image as a 0 and a 1. When we take a digital photo, it is stored as a combination of pixels. Each pixel contains a different number of channels. If it is a grayscale image, it has only one pixel, while if it is a color image, it contains three channels: red, green, and blue.
