The structure of a questionnaire The construction of a questionnaire in terms of wording and layout will largely determine how useful it is as a guide for decision making. The most common approach to an overall structure is through funnelling. This involves asking the most general questions first and then gradually restricting the focus through
more specific questions, leaving the most direct questions until last. This funnel technique is used to reduce bias which could come from asking specific questions upfront. The first consideration in questionnaire design is to define what information is required. The questions asked will flow from this and will be of two basic types.
