The Doctor Blake Mysteries: Brotherly Love

Friday, 22 February 2013

When a delirious prisoner on death row tells Dr Blake he is innocent of the police shooting for which he is soon to hang, Blake is stunned - and believes him. But no one else seems interested in uncovering the truth.
Irish immigrant Sean McBride is accused of shooting a policeman, Clive Cooper. Sealing his fate on death row, Sean originally pleaded guilty to the crime and refused to defend himself in court.
The town is divided over the rights and wrongs of capital punishment. The police rally around their own, determined to get 'justice'.
District Nurse Mattie O'Brien is vehemently against capital punishment and finds herself at loggerheads with friend Danny Parks. Constable Parks arrived at the crime scene just minutes after the shooting that fateful day and Sean McBride even shot at him. Danny desperately wants to back his copper mates but starts to doubt the evidence as Dr Blake asks more and more pertinent questions.
The closer Blake gets to the shocking truth, the tighter the circle closes.

The Paradise

Saturday, 23 February 2013

The Paradise: a heady world of desires, dreams and ambition, and the most luxurious selection of goods you'll ever find, all under one roof. Set amidst the Victorian splendour of Britain's first department store, THE PARADISE is a rags-to-riches story of a young girl who falls in love with the intoxicating charms of the modern world.
As Denise finds her feet as a shop girl in the Ladies wear department of The Paradise, she must navigate her way through the shop floor power struggles, the intrigues and the affairs. She is young, ambitious and knows she has the ability to rise to dizzying heights.
Meanwhile, the shop's dashing and reckless owner, John Moray, spots Denise almost as soon as she's set foot on the shop floor. Self- made and utterly modern, Moray can be ruthless - and completely charming. In Denise he sees some of himself, and can't help being drawn to her, despite being entangled with his powerful financier's pampered and determined daughter, Katherine Glendenning.
This week, Miss Audrey develops a mysterious illness which provokes a rivalry between Denise and Clara. Katherine enjoys the effect Peter is having on her life, but is it enough to banish all thoughts of Moray?

Catalyst: On The Road

Having delved into the science of big mining in Kalgoorlie, our trio continue their transcontinental roadtrip by teeing off on the Eyre Highway. But they're not here just to play the longest golf course in the world. Anja Taylor is thrilled to be joining a team of passionate cave divers at Weebubbie on the Nullarbor.

It's thought that millions of years ago, when the climate was wetter, rainwater seeped into the limestone and carved out the underwater caverns and passageways that exist on the Nullarbor today. Karst geomorphologist Ian Lewis - an expert in how underground cave systems form - and sports scientist Peter Buzzacott, have spent years diving, exploring and researching the origins of the caves below the Nullarbor. In this spectacular report, Anja, Derek and Simon take in the majesty of Weebubbie and hear new theories about the creation of the caves and look for undiscovered species living there.

While Anja is submerged, Derek and Simon provide a special treat for students normally schooled online by Kalgoorlie's School of the Air. The roadhouse at Mundrabilla is more than a thousand kilometres from both Perth and Adelaide, so right in the middle of not very much. Two young girls gather a few of their school of the air classmates from far and wide for a rare up-close maths and science lesson with the guys.

As they head towards South Australia, armed with a bottle of vinegar, the trio scale the Eucla sandhills to prove their limestone composition.
