RIPCO RIPPLES, June, 1954. Rhinelander WI: RIPCO, 1954. First Thus. Book. Pictorial wraps. 36pp. Illus. Short articles about the company & its employees. Many names & photos, plus jokes & tall tales. Couple of ads. One article is on the Ripco Keglers (bowling team). Another on "What You Ought To Know About Trees." Also, "How to Take the Eye-sting Out of TV." Pics of employees kids. In Memoriam: Andrew Wold, Edward Nelson, & Henry Hietpas. Signature on Norman Breager on back cover. Vg. (#SHEL736) $15.00
2887. Rhinelander, Wisconsin. (Cabinet Photo Album, Rhinelander). N.p., ca 1900, 1900. Photographic Image. Not a book. Rhinelander, in the Northwoods (alternate spelling: North Woods) of Wisconsin 55 miles north of Wausau & 90 miles south of Lake Superior (with Michigan's Upper Peninsula -- the UP -- in between), was a booming community in the 1890s. This is a great glance at a few people who lived there a hundred years or more ago. This item is an 8 1/2" x 10 3/4" red clothbound cabinet photo album with decorated metal corner pieces, a metal clasp & a mirror in the middle. Binding is in vg+ condition & the velvet pile is mostly worn away on the front cover & moderately so on the back cover. There is moderate soiling. Inside are 33 cabinet portraits. 25 are from Rhinelander photographers (exactly imprinted as: Wolcott, C. Krueger, B.F. Kaler ("successor to Krueger"), Carl Krueger, Krueger & Co., V.E. Wolcott, and Banister & Tibbitts). Other portraits: Knudsen of Waupaca, Towne of Shelby, Michigan, Winkle of Wautoma, James of Waupaca, & Warmbold of Chicago. Only two photos have names supposedly of the subjects on the back: "Emma & Mennia B." (the Selby, Mich. photo) & "ada" on a C. Krueger photo. While most of the photos are adults presented conventionally for the time, a handful have added photo interest compositionally, or with children as the subject (8 children portraits, plus a couple of family portraits). All the photos have been very carefully removed for examination & reinserted back into their album pockets. Most are in vg or better condition. Some have some light rubbing or flecking. One has a couple of thumbnail size orange stains. Most of the photo page mounts are in generally very good condition with several having a torn or chipped entry slot, and two with the bottom strip missing. There are three pages without a photo (one double sided leaf vacant on both sides, & one leaf with one side vacant). This represents, we believe, an uncommon opportunity to acquire a nice set of period photos from a popular Northern Wisconsin and Northwoods city. ca 1900 (#5003025) $162.00
