Document is headed "(No. 18)". Mr. Simpson objected to a bill authorizing civilians (the House Military Committee) to investigate the army. In the SLANDER document, Mr. Cummings (D-NY) speaks to funding the government in wartime (sounds familiar) & reacts to charges by Mr. Lewis of Washington. Rynning is an informational 2pp bio of Sparks, known as "Timberline Bill". Next 2pp prints a letter from Arizona Gov. Hunt, affirming Sparks research & his work as a peace officer & mentioning his own role in trying to catch the Apache Kid. Also printed are commendation letters by John H. Lacy, M.D. & Dr. J. A. Lord, dentist. A good copy or better (heck, I think it is a vg copy) with relatively minor edgewear. Lower fore corners of covers each with an old crease; 1" split at bottom where spine joins front cover archivally closed. A touch of loss to extreme head/toe of backstrip. An account of ranching in the Tulsa area, especially the 3D ranch 35 miles NE of Tulsa, & W. E. Halsell's Mashed-O. Information on Texas cattleman, Shanghai Pierce, & some Oklahoma outlaws, the Daltons, Doolin, Jennings, Cook Gang, Cherokee Bill. "The writer came to Oklahoma in 1889 and also tells many humorous happenings in and around Tulsa during the early days." Desirable book & quite scarce in the 1st edition. Curiously, this title appears to have been published without a title page. The t-p in the reprint is only that of the reprint publisher, & other 1st editions I've looked at did not have a title page. This copy with the color of the cloth covers faded with exposure. Black printing of the titles & cover pictures (both front & back) are strong. Light wear otherwise. The original cover states the original price as 25 cents. Continuation of the subtitle reads, in small block print, "WHO WAS CAPTURED BY THE MEXICANS, AT MEIR, DECEMBER 25,1842, AND RELEASED FROM PEROTE MAY 16, 1844." A rare & desirable Texas & Mexican book. Copies of the cloth edition naturally appear more often on the market than the paper bound edition. Jenkins, BTB, says, "The was the first book to appear on the Meir Expedition; it is still one of the best.
