Heavy gauge metal sign, 14" x 20", painted in red, gray-blue, & white, advertising in bold letters the realtor's location at "231 1/2 Vermont EX. 7044 (Last Number in the Phone Book) Free Parking at the Ravenna Theatre Lot". SUTRO in 5 1/2" letters. According to research, Adolph N. was the son of the famous San Francisco mayor / entrepreneur, Adolph H. Sutro, by his "contract wife', Clara Klug. Upon Sutro's death, Klug filed a sizable claim for part of the estate & won. Of Adolph N. (Newton?) Sutro, we read: "Adolph N. Sutro of the class of 1909 gained a most distinguished record in France as a machine gunner of the First Division ; he is a veteran of five battles." (1921 Polytechnic H.S. yearbook) (San Francisco)". The Ravenna Theatre was built approx 1935 and was part of the Clotiner chain. Condition very good. A few quite small rust spots & extreme right edge with paint chipped back 1/8" to 1/2". The white paint around the blue-gray words "For Rent" in the upper corners is chipped away. The photogravures are monotints in various hues: light to dark sepia, aqua-blue, gray, black & white, etc... Plates are 10 1/2" x 16 3/8", & the borders range from approx. 1 1/2" to 3" per edge. Each photogravure plate has an impression "bite" between the image & the edge. Each plate is attached to the binding by a flexible cloth hinge. Preceding each plate, interleaved by a full sized paper guard, is a page with two typogravures which may or may not be by the same artist of the plate, and brief descriptions of the artists & their subjects. ca 1890 - 1900 (#TA001) $1,950.00

Tammen seems to have published several editions under this title. This is one of the most attractive ones I've seen. The brightly illustrated front cover is a painting of mountains done in gold, pink, red, & black. This copy has a mild bend running vertically through it, mostly undetected on the front cover. The back cover was once creased in like fashion, & is now mostly pressed out. Vg. (#0208169) $32.80
