First Thus. Book. Royal 8vo period decorated paper over boards bound in 1/4 leather, gilt-stamped on the spine. 54pp & 45pp. There are a few small illustrations. Bound together are two monographs, one 1916) by Thomsen which is a criticism of the Thalbitzer edition of a volume in Meddelelser om Gronland on the Angmagsalik - Ammassalik Eskimos. This Thomsen volume is: "The Angagsalik Eskimo Notes and Corrections to Vol. XXXIX of Meddelelser om Gronland" (above this title is printed, "Reprint of Meddelelser om Gronland LIII Nos. IV & V."). The second monograph (1917) is Thalbitzers scathing rebuttal to Thomsen, & criticism of the Ethnographical Department at the National Museum of Copenhagen which housed the collection pertinent to the subject. This rebuttal by Thalbitzer is titled, "The Ammassalik Eskimo A Rejoinder". The background of both manuscripts is the 1884 Holm expedition, & subsequent expeditions, to Greenland, and the finding of a group of Eskimos not previously known, even though the Danish presence in Greenland had associated with other groups for 200 years. Thalbitzer, himself, wintered in Ammassalik in 1905 - 06. To summarize, this is a polemical item, the first part a detailed & technical criticism by Thomsen of Thalbitzer's work, and the second part a fierce rebuttal by Thalbitzer. Near fine condition. Decorative paper was intentionally trimmed at the extreme corners of the covers. One corner slightly bumped. There are a couple of ink numbers at the top of the front pasted down. There is a small museum deaccession stamp (Aarhus Naturhistorisk Museum) at the bottom of the second title page, but absolutely no library call numbers, pockets, labels, etc. on the book. There is an elegant, dime-sized booksellers label on a rear blank leaf. These two volumes are written in English. I cannot find out if there was a Danish edition, and if this is a translation.
