Quarto, gilt-stamped titles & full calf. 1,297pp.. Index. Rear leaf has two lists: "Population of Counties and Reservations in Oklahoma", and "Cities and Villages in Oklahoma having a population of over 100." Book is subtitled: "Commemorating the achievements of citizens who have contributed to the progress of Oklahoma and the development of its resources." Approximately 1,000 entries with bio & varying amounts of interesting genealogical information on politicians, city builders, ranchers, settlers, professors, priests & pastors, federal & territorial officers, doctors, etc.. Former owner's name, Mrs. A.W. Husby (?), written in ink along Preface gutter. Frontispiece is a fine engraving of Major Gordon W. Lillie, "Pawnee Bill". Six page introduction, "The Opening of Oklahoma." Noteworthy entries that also have portraits (most entries do not have portraits) include: W. E. Malaley (full portrait, holding a rifle), the frontiersman & cowman who found the murdered Pat Hennessey, , Deputy U.S. Marshals William D. Fossett & Charles Colcord (City Police Chief of OKC). Some husband/wife couples, family portraits, & a couple portraits of women are included. Women include Nettie Reppeto, proprietor of the Royal Hotel in Guthrie. Residences are pictured, as well. Text entries are at least one full column & usually more. Only a few Indians are represented. There is an entry (but no portrait) of the famous photographer William S. Prettyman. Also, Dr. Jesse Mooney (who attended Belle Starr), & many other people well known at the time, especially in their own localities. This copy rebacked with 3/4 of original spine present. Covers moderately scuffed -- the leather is in very good condition & has been properly treated. The floral endpapers are chipped along the edges (we declined putting in new endpapers when the book was professionally restored). Archival reinforcement tape near the gutter. Several pages (toward the front & back) have minor chipping or very short edge tears, most of which have been archivally closed. This book is now in very good condition for regular use. Errata slip (with paper clip impression) states author's dissatisfaction regarding certain color plates. Apparently the first three printings were not distributed due to the problem, but this printing was finally released. Memoirs of the Laboratory of Anthropology Volume I. Top of the last four leaves have a paper clip impression; just a bit of rust from same on a couple of pages & barely on inside of back cover. Bottom of dj has 1 1/2" split now closed. Couple of nicks at top of dj & another short tear at top of backstrip of dj. Top of front hinge starting after 1st leaf. Still, a nearly very good copy, & a special one with this presentation. This remarkable woman, who lived to be 105 years of age, would likely be found on any body's Who's Who of the 20th Century when it comes to national leadership and politics, as well as education and thought. A well designed & printed book, printed at the Peter Pauper Press, Mount Vernon, New York, for the Office of the President of Taiwan. Bottom edges of boards slightly worn, but still very good+. Old tape reinforces it, & new archival tape has been used to reattach the detached blank back flap. Thus, a vg copy in problematic, but mostly complete dj. Very Good in Fair dust-jacket. Hardcover.
