Telephone




The telephone is a vital instrument in business communication. Advances in electronics have changed a telephone set into an integrated digital system which provides a lot of facilities usually including call logging, call diversion, call back, call transfer, automatic redialling. The telephone is an instrument for transmitting speech, but connected with a modem it can transmit computer information as well as speech. Technology, then, has offered businessmen a variety of equipment comprising telephone answering machine, radiophone, videophone, cellular phone, skyphone.




The videophone is a telephone provided with a video screen which allows the speaker's image to appear on the screen as soon as the call is put through.


Freephone is a service provided by British Telecom by which a person calls another person without paying the cost of the call which is charged to the recipient. This is a valuable service for enquiries from potential customers.
A Phonecard is a card used instead of cash in special payphones. It can be purchased at airports, post offices, and shops.
