To be able to understand the importance of asking for help from an adult when on the internet
|
Explain to the children that they are going to be thinking about the internet and different types of technology.
Start by asking some simple ‘show-of-hand’ questions:
Who has used a computer/laptop at home?
Who has a tablet at home, or has played on one?
Who likes to play games online?
Who has an Xbox / Wii / Nintendo DS / PSP / PlayStation etc.?
Who has been on the internet before?
What are their favourite websites and why do they like them?
Who watches TV online? (Year 2 may have a better understanding of on demand TV services)
Read the online storybook to the children and discuss the story using the ‘Time to Chat’ questions for Year 1.
Make a Smartie the Penguin mask or puppet and sing the song with your puppet.

Use technology safely and respectfully, keeping personal information private; identify where to go for help and support when they have concerns about content or contact on the internet or other online technologies
|
Use Chicken Clicking with year 1 pupils and encourage them to think about different scenarios they could find themselves in online. The children then mind map ideas to help them consider how to keep safe online. Read their class blog post. You could give pupils different scenario cards linked to the story and in groups they have to decide what to do.
