V NINTH GRADE EXPLORATORY
Course Description: The Exploratory Program is a seven-day rotation where students experience hands-on activities, observe demonstrations, and learn the skills that are necessary for careers in the many career areas offered at Madison Park Technical High School. Students are expected to work individually as well as in a team. Classroom assignments include reading, writing, oral participation, tests, quizzes and homework. Writings, using the John Collins Writing method, are required of all students in order to improve skills in writing and critical thinking skills. Students are also required to write reflections on each vocational program.

CONSTRUCTION, DESIGN AND TRANSPORTATION PROGRAMS
V AUTOMOTIVE TECHNOLOGY
PROGRAM DESCRIPTION
This is a 3-year sequential program. Students must fulfill the necessary pre-requisite prior to advancing to the next level. Students in the Automotive Technician Program learn the new methods necessary in the diagnostics of late model vehicles. Students are introduced to basic safety, tool identification, minor maintenance, and repair progression as they learn to diagnose vehicle problems, recommend and make needed repairs. Students also learn to prioritize vehicle repairs according to the amount of work needed and devise and organize a schedule that reflects the customer's demands. The use of electronic diagnostic equipment is incorporated in the course. The curriculum meets National Automotive Technician Education Foundation (NATEF) standards.

PROGRAM DESCRIPTION
This course provides training to students in all aspects of digital and visual communications. This is a 3-year sequential program. Students will gain fundamental skills in layout and design, typography, digital photography, storyboarding, web design and animation. Students work in state-of-the-art Macintosh laboratories equipped with the latest Adobe Creative Suite software: InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop, Dreamweaver, Flash, Premiere and Acrobat. Students become proficient in developing and providing multi-media services that include the development of digitally generated communication. Program participants develop practical skills that require creativity, attention to detail and critical thinking skills. PROGRAM DESCRIPTION
This is a 3-year sequential program. Students must fulfill the necessary pre-requisite prior to advancing to the next level. Students in the Electricity program first learn the theory of electrical technology and the necessary safety standards. This theory is then applied and practiced by working with electrical fixtures, components and wiring used in lighting, heating, and power systems. Students gain practical experience while working with hand tools, power tools, and testing instruments. They wire electric machinery and equipment and install switches, conduits, controls and circuit breakers. Their tasks vary from wiring a lamp to wiring a house. They plan jobs, assemble equipment, install electrical wiring and test the completed product.

V GRAPHIC COMMUNICATIONS (PRINTING)
PROGRAM DESCRIPTION
This is a 3-year sequential program. Students must fulfill the necessary pre-requisite prior to advancing to the next level. Students in this program acquire and demonstrate the different specialties of the graphic arts/offset printing industry. Through hands-on activities, skills are learned in preparation for work with mechanical skills, artwork and layout; the operation of a photo offset camera; the stripping of various work and opaquing of negatives; the various procedures in plate-making; offset press work of a variety of different kinds of printing jobs; bindery work and packaging.
Students spend time in all areas the first two years, progressively narrowing their field of interest and increasing their expertise in the final year. The last year may be spent in a cooperative educational setting under a mentor in the field of a student’s concentration. Portfolio development aimed at employment and/or further education is required.

PROGRAM DESCRIPTION
This is a 3-year sequential program. Students must fulfill the necessary pre-requisite prior to advancing to the next level. Students in the Plumbing program learn to master pipe threading, to solder copper tubing, to assemble cast iron pipe with lead and oakum joints, to assemble cast iron pipe with no-hub clamps and fittings, and to join polyvinyl chloride pipe with solvent cement. Student work on the installation of a complete plumbing system including drains, waste and vent piping, plumbing fixtures, water heaters and learn how to install a hydronic heating system. Extensive instruction is given in the repair and maintenance of the plumbing system. The graduate is prepared to enter the work force or pursue post-secondary education.

Program Description
This is a 3-year sequential program. Students must fulfill the necessary pre-requisite prior to advancing to the next level. Students who enroll in this program receive training on computers, scanners, printers, and accounting calculators, preparing graduates to meet the demands of the workplace while preparing them for post-secondary training and educational programs. Business Technology students are evaluated through self-paced business curriculum modules designed to develop students’ skills in: keyboarding, office procedures, filing, business communications, accounting, marketing strategies, project management, and the full range of Microsoft Office applications. The Microsoft Office Specialist component of the program provided students with competency-based training in the use of Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Access, and Outlook applications for personal and professional use. Students’ competency in these technology applications is measured by a variety of performance assessments, student produced projects and products, and achieving MOUS certified. Student will be trained in OSHA and receive OSHA 10 card.

V CULINARY ARTS: BAKING, COOKING, FOOD AND BEVERAGE
MANAGEMENT
PROGRAM DESCRIPTION
This is a 3-year sequential program. Students must fulfill the necessary pre-requisite prior to advancing to the next level. Students in this program prepare for careers in the culinary arts. Food service students develop basic food handling and preparation. Hands-on skills are used in the various workstations within the kitchen. Other acquired skills are: short order cooking, baking, menu planning, inventory control, sanitation and safety techniques. Students also learn table service, catering, cashiering and the fundamentals of restaurant management. Upon completion of the program, students will: know safety and sanitation procedures, be able to prepare foods in a consistent manner making correct determination regarding taste and doneness, communicate with and serve the general public, understand and execute a variety of services, and set up and run all stations in a kitchen and dining room.
Students in the baking component of the program will learn to create a variety of classical pastry and dessert items as well as breads, rolls, cakes, cake decorating and assorted miniature pastries. Special emphasis is placed on the following methods: folding-in, rolling, pinning, decorating, tempering chocolate, and cooking sugar. Students are expected to demonstrate competencies in the following areas: preparations of short dough, puff pastry, sponge cakes, mousses, meringues, and butter cream; understanding of ingredients and their function; proper baking techniques and correct use of temperature as well as proper use of culinary terminology for products prepared in class and presentation of individual desserts as well as desserts designed for a buffet table.
