At that time CIL had to make up for that by paying about Rs. 19,000 crore as dividend to the exchequer. The CCEA also approved the stake sale in ONGC and NHPC. 5% stake sale in ONGC is expected to fetch over Rs. 18,000 crore while 11.36% in NHPC is expected to fetch around Rs. 2,800 crore. Thus the govt. could raise over Rs. 43,000 crore in 2014-15 and held bridge the fiscal deficit.

The complex has been shut for more than two months with authorities citing reasons of a technical snag. The company had long been facing fund crunch and was operating the plant at sub-optimal capacity owing to non-availability of naphtha in desired amount. As per the terms of agreement, the West Bengal Industrial Development Corporation (WBIDC) would transfer its block of around 40% of its stake in HPL to TCG at Rs. 25.10 per share.

Explanation: Gilead Sciences is a U.S. biotechnology company. The company has licensed its Hepatitis C drug Sovaldi to seven India-based drugmakers that will sell the drug at far cheaper price than in the United States. Sovaldi, chemically known as sofosbuvir, is a far more effective and better-tolerated treatment of Hepatitis C than older injection regimens, but Gilead has come under fire over its U.S. price tag, with cost presenting a huge barrier in poor countries.
