This section synthesizes the major themes identified in the literature review and discusses their relevance to each of the four regions under examination. The first part of this section discusses findings for each region and highlights the similarities and differences across the regions while reinforcing the overarching nature of the social and economic effects discussed in detail in Section III. The second part, Table 5 on page 28 displays a summary of each social variable for each region.
In general, the peer-reviewed literature implies that more research is being conducted on shoreline change caused by erosion (in particular its effects on loss of property and reduction of property values) than on any of the effects of accretion that may be seen across the regions (Nordstrom & Terich, 1985).
