Duration: approx. 4.5 hours
About a 1-hour coach drive up the coast from the port of Bari lies the pretty harbour town of Trani, your destination on this enjoyable tour, which combines a sightseeing leg with a chance to sample some of the delicious locally produced olive oil. Trani’s long and rich history, which dates back to its 9th-century foundation, is still much in evidence in the town to this day. As you make your way around the town’s history trail, your first stop will be Svevo Castle, an imposing 13th-century fortification of highly rectilinear construction that overlooks the sea. You will have some time to explore and enjoy the views at your leisure before you continue on to the 11th-/12th-century Cathedral of San Nicola Pellegrino. Built in honour of San Nicola The Pilgrim, this magnificent Romanesque-style building is a real treasure, with the stunning stained-glass windows, the remains of a 12th-century mosaic floor and the transversal crypt dedicated to San Nicola particularly worthy of mention. The sightseeing leg of the tour is brought to a close with a refreshing walk along the seafront promenade before the coach then takes you to an old oil mill for an informative visit and a chance to tantalise your taste buds with some of the wonderful locally produced olive oil and other typically Puglian delicacies. Your return to the port and your ship brings the tour to an end.
BELFAST (Northern Ireland, United Kingdom)
Not only is the major port of Belfast the capital of Northern Ireland, home to the notorious shipyard that built the ill-fated Titanic and one of the arenas of Northern Ireland’s former “Troubles”, but is also characterised by great civic beauty and a gloriously green hinterland that is well worth exploring.
BEL01 - BELFAST CITY TOUR
Duration: 3 hours, 15 minutes
Focusing on the social history of Belfast, this fascinating panoramic tour lets you get a real feel for how the city boomed during the industrial revolution and became a major shipbuilding centre. The best known product of this era is undoubtedly the unfortunate Titanic and the tour includes a stop at the place the ship was built. But the tour also gives you an idea of how the so-called “Troubles” affected the city for 30 years prior to the ceasefire in 1994. The impressive murals you will visit at Falls Road and Shankhill Road form a starkly fascinating reminder of this dark period of political strife. You will also pass the former security gates that once served to keep warring communities apart before continuing on to the Harland and Wolff shipyard, which rose to dubious fame as the place where the Titanic was constructed. During the last part of this panoramic tour, you will also pass several churches, various important buildings dating back to the industrial revolution and the parliament building in Stormont, the seat of the devolved government and legislative Northern Ireland Assembly. Replete with fresh memories, you will then be returned to the pier and your ship at the end of the tour.

From the moment the grand idea of the ship was conceived in the early 1900s, through her construction, launch and ultimate untimely end, right up to the discovery of the wreck and attempts at salvage, the “TBE” creates a sense of encounter with the past and breathes new life into the story of the iconic ship.
