Field Trips
ACUA Field Trip
The students were taken to the Atlantic County Utilities Authority (ACUA) Jersey-Atlantic Wind Farm in Atlantic City for the day. The objective of this trip was to have the students identify the engineering behind the operation, maintenance, and design of the wind farm. Additionally, the students were taken to see the solar array on site. In a new age of energy and environmentally aware engineering, it was important for the students to see the connection between engineering and alternative energy in today’s world.
FAA Field Trip
Students were taken to the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) to experience some aspects of the aviation industry firsthand. Highlights of the trip included access into the Pavement Testing Facility, a unique facility where engineers can observe the effects of repeated stresses created by aircraft taking off and landing on runway pavement. They were also taken to see the mock air traffic control tower and air traffic control center. The mock air traffic control center was an interactive experience where the students were able to experience exactly what is required of air traffic controllers.
